Hill, Anderson, Poppy were big positives.

The 3rd and 4th quarters, plus goal kicking were big problems. That whole let teams run through the middle thing that we developed against Geelong a year or two back, and cost us a flag in September needs to be addressed.

Seriously, it's like our guys just stand still.

look, plenty of things to take from this.

  • this was the wakeup call we needed.
  • the boys will be hurting. watch out cats next time.
  • was a moral victory; hodgey in and we win easily.
  • when ellis gets on the park he will add some class to the midfield.
  • roughy is invaluable in the forward line.
  • do you think clarko is showing the opposition our A-game? ha ha ha.
  • boys will be hurting.
  • we will beat them when it matters. we have the mental edge in finals.
  • boys will be hurting.
  • clarko is an innovator; he will revolutionise the modern game come finals.
i think that about covers it.

When the we needed someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck, not one of our big forwards wanted it. The games in the balance Roughs got a shot on 50 and tries to pass it off.

Best game I've scene Shoey play, Burgers looked sharp, Gibbo gave his all, can't wait to get another pre season into Hill the kids a gun.

**** I hate Geelong, I hate cats and a few years ago I actually considered buying one to kick after the Geelong games. I wish I had of.

Hill's start and Anderson's contribution when he was subbed on are the only positives that I can honestly take from this, I really has nothing to do with the fact that the Cats have managed to over run us again, we DIDN'T KICK STRAIGHT when we had the run of the play, a 5 goal lead should have been more like 7 or 8, we sprayed the thing, the Cats were hanging on for grim death in that second quarter, they stuck in and hung on and were able to claw back a couple late in the second to stay in touch, a game of footy is just like a rollercoaster, both sides will have their ups and downs throughout, the good teams take their chances when things are up and the chances are there but equally if not more important is what they do when they are down.... They manage to get their heads down and hang on because they will get another chance again if they can stay in touch, Geelong are the masters at it, we on the other hand simply cannot do it, the GF is another prime example

Why do our mids continue to bomb the ball into the forwardline when we don't have even one forward who can mark overhead or in a pack. This has been going on for the past few seasons. Franklin, Ruffy, Hale haven't taken a decent contested mark in ages. Clarkson need to drill our mids to carry the ball and hit up leads not bomb the ball as it comes straight back out more often than not. Outmarked all day, just pathetic!

Lol top post, got a laugh out of that

Hawthorn was LUCKY!

Let me tell you why... Brisbane stacked their foward line with talls and bombed it on their heads on Saturday and got mercilessly, totally, comprehensively destroyed by the Western Bulldogs. You guys stacked your foward line with talls (Buddy, Roughy, Hale, Gunston - plays as a tall) and only just got beaten.

Would of thought that you guys might of learnt something from last year's grand finals about bombing it aimlessly into the foward line but apparently not!

The reality is your midfield was well on top for long periods of the game, defence held up pretty well even without lake and your best player in hodgey is still to come back into the side. But your going to keep losing the big games against quality opposition unless you sort out your entry into the foward-line. Whitecross is a loss, accept that, but you can't continue to simply belt it in the air hoping that hale, buddy or roughy will be under it and then watching as the oppostions mid-size halfbacks waltz out of the backline pressure free.

does hale give you enough in the big games to warrant his complete lack of pressure on rebounding opposition defenders?

Anderson and Hill are awesome. Love them already. That bump was fantastic and Hill so clean with the ball in the first half. Poppy for a guy who didn't look like he was having a great pre-season showed that heart>talent in the big games.

Lot of players need to take a look at themselves. Breust, Gunston, Shiels, Savage, Bailey and Roughy come to mind.

Also Schoey. You were fantastic. Hopefully this is the year you silence the critics. :thumbsu: Great work.

Calm down people. Thought all pre season we were couple of weeks behind cats. Only round 1 and we already sulking. Maybe some of us need to harden the F... UP.

I'm seriously over this team. Having been a Hawk since 1992 and never experiencing what so many of my fellow supporters experienced until 2008, this team has delivered nothing since. I feel like 2009-???? has been an utter waste of the talent we have. Buddy, Rioli, my god the things I would have done to have blokes like this in the mid-late nineties!

I would seriously prefer to watch the Hawthorn team from 1997. They may have lost more games then I can remember and finished second last, but at least they were genuinely shit. This mob is gifted with talent, far beyond what I would of even dreamed of in the 90's, yet when the crunch is on they fail time and time again. 2012 GF, 10 in a row to Geelong. I'm OVER IT.

Terrible terrible second half we just didn't seem to have any composure. Of course the reaction on here is going to be out of proportion on here and I can understand that the way I'm feeling now. The thing is we have had the least prep time out of any team along with Sydney (and they struggled with GWS) so it's a bit hard to get a true gauge of where we are at. Some really poor performances today though and almost inexcusable at this level. One player that seems to escape criticism every week is Shiels - did nothing and a couple of really soft efforts today, am I alone in thinking this??
