Murphy has previously done a few good jobs on SJ up until the qualifying final. And that's when it matters most.

Murph goes very well against the small forwards, especially Betts, but his current form doesn't warrant selection. He may be picked purely for a role, but that would be a big mistake for mine.
Yea he didn't have the best game on him in the qualifying final but Stevie J still only kicked 1 goal and had 1 assist. Yes he kicked 4 behinds which could have been goals but it wasn't him that killed us

Agreed. His form in the pre-season comp was very poor.

I want to see blokes earn their spots and have no complaints if guys like Rough, Puopolo, X and Shiels are expected to dominate at BH before getting a call-up.

When would final teams for this game come out as we're playing on Monday? Name a 25 man squad on Thursday and announce the starting 22 on Saturday?

Yep, that's right.

I think there will only be 2 changes:

INS: Roughead, Shiels
OUTS: Boumann & either Bateman OR Breaust

Osborne did enough in the last Qtr last week to keep his spot :thumbsu:

Team Changes:

IN: Roughead Shiels
OUT: Bateman Breust

B: Gibson Boumann Guerra
HB: Stratton Schoenmakers Birchall
C: Smith Mitchell Shiels
HF: Burgoyne Franklin Whitecross
F: Gunston Roughead Rioli
R: Hale Sewell Lewis

INT: Savage McCauley Suckling Osborne (Sub)

EMG: Bateman Puopolo Murphy

It's just so damn tough to pick 22 fit players right now, so many are going to miss out on selection, argh well.

A quick brain fart ... Seeing as Murphy likes playing on the smalls would it be possible for him to tag ?? One of chapman or bartel need shutting down.

no chance, in my view....both would carve him a new one...how many times does Bartel smash us? and to put Murph on him would be a dream come true for the cats

We do need to watch Bartel sneaking forward for a few cheap goals against us, he did that against Fremantle and at times he was all by himself in the forward line.

Maybe whitecross is the best option for Jimmy or even Cyril - make Jimmy totally accountable for a change.

Hopefully you're right, however, they are going to play either West or Stephenson forward the whole time along with Hawkins and Pods.

If their big men are hurting us, we may be forced to move Hale back, which frees up one of their key defenders.

Geelong have managed to free up Scarlett or Taylor most weeks for four years.

They'll bring in a defender, likely Gillies, to replace Scarlett.

Lonergan will take Buddy with Taylor helping out.

Gillies will take Gunston and someone else will take Hale.

Dont mean to butt in, but I doubt Gilles would play. His form doesnt warrant that. Most likely Hunt will be brought in to try and curb some of the small forward influence. It does mean Geelong will be a bit smaller then back which you guys can exploit, but not much one can do when Scarlett is out suspended. The coaching staff will probably be hoping that Mackie hgas a better then average game.

Throwing Rioli on Bartel would probably just negate the both of them. Bartel is extremely accountable when he needs to be; nullified Hayes in the 09' Grand Final after the saint dominated in the first quarter. It would be an interesting battle.

Boumann isn't top heavy. he has got pace so he could go with medium forwards that are at a medium pace. SJ isn't that fast either.

Gibbo or Stratts could take SJ

I don't think Gibbo or Stratts are a good matchup. However The Bow Man might be a good experiment, but with Gibbo/Stratts/Schoe already in, one would need to be moved out of defence - and it cant be Schoe.

Just wanted to drop in and say its always good when these two teams come together for another clash.

I will not say Good Luck as i would be lying, but here is hoping for a tight tough contest and no injuries to either team and for those lucky enough to make it to the ground, I reckon it will be money's worth again.

Victoria's true derby/showdown is on in less then 6 days. :D

Cheers catters05. I saw you post similar sentiments in your own thread so know you mean it.

Love playing the Cats (or used to when we won) and look forward to another cracker, with the good guys* prevailing this time.

* Hawks are the good guys in case you were wondering.

With Scarlett out I kinda just want to play Roughead, Gunston, Buddy and Hale up forward at the same time and see what happens. Not going to happen though as it is a pretty damn stupid idea.

I want Bateman will keep his place, he does well against Geelong according to my terrible memory.

Seems to work for the eagles - they did it last year and appear to be doing it again this year. They well and truly stretch the defence of a club with Kennedy, Lynch, Darling, Cox and NicNat all in the forward line

Is Rough really fit enough?
From the same article...

Roughead is ready to play his first AFL match since rupturing his Achilles against the Cats nearly 10 months ago.

"He was named an emergency last week, which means once you get named in the AFL 25, you're right to go," Evans said.

"It just comes down to a coaching call now."
