THEN yesterday i got really sick with the flu and ended up staying home and watching it on the couch ... thank God for the virus.. lol

Another thing that I didn't like about the game was the amount of times we kicked it off the ground instead of putting the noggin over the ball and picking it up. Picking the ball up in general seemed like an impossible task as our players fumbled easy half volleys.

Put your head over the ball and you will most likely come out with a free kick or a stoppage. At worst you will get pinged. I'd rather boys get pinged for putting their body on the line instead of toe poking it 10 metres to a Geelong player who can kick it in and put our defence under pressure again.

Can you call for coach's head while on top of ladder? F&ck this rubbish.

It is not even close to the coaches fault. Geelong are smarter. And they do the simple things better. Why they are working to make space and create simple opportunities we are launching audacious goal attempts from 70m out. It is just dumb. And not once either.

Cats were just way cleaner and way smarter. Too good.

I know we werent good enough tonight and left it too late, but you cant call it a weak mental effort. The fact that we got it back to within a kick after being 33 points down and didnt let the game just roll out and lose by 40 showed brilliant determination. See you in the big dance cats

Yep and bring the same shit that we have in this game and we'll be the ones in the skirts!

For those blaming Buddy and Clarko surely know nothing about the game.

Mitchell only bloke in the mid field who had a decent crack.

Buddy had a crack with piss poor delivery.

I'm not sure about this share the load crap. Bud is the only bloke who seems like he gives a crap when the going gets tough.

Roughy just goes to mush in big games.

Initial thoughts. Lewis, hodge and Sewell can't play in the same team anymore. We will get away with it against shite teams but not the cats and swans. They match up so well and know exActly how to play them. That is, get a faster player goal side and get it over the top or sprint out to the wing for an easy release from defence.
Rotate them out of the team weekly. 2 in and 1 out. This gives us a chance to play Langford etc, and get game time into the youngsters JUST LIKE GEELONG HAVE OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS.
Sure this tactic backfires some times (cats vs lions) but to go into the finals with Sewell, Lewis and hodge completely fu#*ed is madness. Match winners when they are fit and firing!
Buddy kicked one goal, it was when he lead. Worst kick ever that he somehow picked up and goaled. Lead buddy. if his thumbs are that stuffed that he can't mark on a flat out lead then the hawks will need to CHIP IT TO HIM so that he can run onto it.

We will never beat that geel group of players. We are to weak as Piss to get over them. The only bloke that can say he had a reasonable dip is Mitchell. The rest might as well shove their heads up their arses. They were disgusting! And as for lance, if he seriously thinks he is worth 1m + a year, then he has got no idea. He just did give a shit tonight.
We will never beat that group of geel players. Yep we came back, but all to Fu..en late!!! And we will hear the same old shit from the club!
I just hope we dont meet them in a final, because I can't handle the embarrassment, the bullshit excuses and the piss poor mental lapses.
Over it hawthorn!

Again too many easy goals for them
Again they cleared our forward line too easily
Again Lonergan beat Buddy
Again we wasted a lot of chances.
Again we look like a completely different team when we play Geelong

But
This time we turned the tide - twice.
The big forwards didn't get hold of us

Agree about your last point. Hawks defence was great tonight. Geelong g shut down our mids and forwards though.

Lets not ignore the pressure Geelong put on in the first half.. We were travelling at only 40% efficiency by foot at half time.

In hindsight it was a mistake to not play Cyril in the 1st half as I believe we would have been at least 2 goals better of with him on the ground.

You can't expect to win games of footy kicking 4 goals in the first 3 quarters.

The only positive is that Tomohawk & JPod did no damage.. They usually kick 10 goals between them.

Ho hum.

Of the two key weaknesses vs the cats, we put one to bed. Pods and Hawkins were soundly beaten and had little impact.

Entry into our forward line was terrible and we ran straight into the age old problem of Enright and Congac setting up and rebounding.

All that's left is to stop bricking it, play man on man and be more selfish (Cyril) or less selfish (Lance). But they're only a few seconds in a two hour battle.

We know how to beat them. Just gotta see it through. Go Hawks!!

No plan of attack once we got the kick-out.

Aside from that freak-goal he got in the 3rd, what forward 50 option did Gunston provide?

Kennett is that you ? Do you want the coach of the top ladder side sacked again ?
Are you serious...? How many times in how many Cats v's Hawks games do you want to see the same thing mate....NO not the loss ...!!! the same dysfunctional game plan...loose Cats running all over the ground in the early critical stages....Cats defenders under no pressure for the 1st two kicks out of their defensive end...and Cats outrunners on the edge of the square receiving and running free at every bounce down....I will never be, or claim to be an expert, but after this many losses to the same team with the same strategy....BLIND FREDDY....would have changed things up....just a tad....and these days being top of the ladder means 'diddly squat....

My thoughts for what it's worth ...

1) Clarko did not show his cards ... As tempting as it was ... Massive credit ...

2) Hill is a star ... Anyone who does not see it is clueless ... Faaarking clueless ...

3) I feel something special this year ... This team is focused again ... If they remember what they can do wearing their almighty jumpers they can do it again ...

Clarko didn't show his cards? so what do you think clarko has up his sleeve that he didnt show?
Hill is comming along nicely.
But I'm not sure what you saw tonight that made you feel that something special is about to happen, but I wouldnt mind a bit of what your on ;)

He took some good marks around the ground and as in the case of Rough if the mids could kick to advantage then he might have taken a couple of marks and had a few shots on goal, look elsewhere he was no where near poorest.

As for the kick ins, heck me every time it was the same, we'd get it to the first option ok and then either turned a hand ball over or the next kick went to a contest and the pressure resumed!!!!!!!

Too many passengers tonight. Hodge went unsighted for a large portion of the game, Sewell went to ground a lot, more than anyone should and this gave them an opening to run, Bailey was just pushed off every contest and many, many others failed to stand up and contribute. When you play one competent quarter of footy you aren't going to beat any good side and that showed tonight.

Starting in the forward line, thought Buddy was lazy tonight. Watched him closely from the stands and he was constantly allowing his opponent to leave him and run up the ground. That's all well and good but when he is then used in link up play we are forced to bring a man to him and that takes away our loose man. Lonergan played him well again, whether that be fair to the letter of the law or not is another subject all together. Another issue with Buddy is he has no confidence in his marking. I have heard whispers that his hand injury is severely limiting his ability to take a mark with his hands but I'm not sure if there is any truth to that.

For me the forward structure in general was really poor and this can be said for our whole side tonight. We had players who were constantly calling for the ball while running towards the free Cats player. It became so frustrating to see this happen time and time again. Smith was a big offender in this regard, from kick ins he would lead towards a spare Geelong player which effectively ruled him out of being a target.

Midfield was one dimensional, Mitchell worked his ass off with no support. Whitecross needs a few more weeks to get his fitness up to a level where he can play more in the middle, Rioli likewise, Sewell needs a spell for mine. I think age is starting to catch up with him. He is no longer that grunt midfielder who has the ability to win a ball out of the pack which is what we are really lacking at the moment. Hallahan or Langford need to be given a run in the next few weeks I think. Lewis was pretty quiet, Hodge pretty much non-existent and Smith wasn't great.

Defense wise we really missed Birchall, like really really badly. The number of times we had rushed kicks straight to Geelong players in the clear was a joke. We needed someone to take on the game and run it out of defense and we just didn't have anyone. Lake was poor early, lifted in the second half, Duryea still has the fumbles which needs to be addressed for him to cement his spot IMO, Stratts was decent and the rest of our defense was not so great.

I went into the match expecting us to lose, we had to slip up somewhere along the way but I was hoping we'd play a 4 quarter game and rise to the occasion. Instead we produced some rubbish football for the majority of the game and when we finally did start using the ball well and hitting targets the game was almost gone. Cursed? I don't think so, this was how we have played the last 3 or 4 games against lesser sides and we'd been stumbling over the line. Our form hasn't been great in the past month of footy and one really hopes that we lift and find some traction as we get closer to the busines end of the season.

You need to post more, I wish I didn't agree with what you say, but the truth is the truth....
