Hawks want a ruckman for Chick or NO DEAL!

McKee is no champion. To call Loats and Campbell future champions is one of the worst calls ever.

Never said that, was just exclaiming that McKee was not given a chance of being a good player but had a very solid season.

I never said Loats or Campbell would be future champions.

I was thinking along the lines of a three, four, or five way deal, perhaps involving Carey somewhere along the line. I can't be stuffed working one out though.

Well Johnson is a much more accomplished player than Cox will ever be in my opinion, but the simple fact is we are in need of a ruckmen, so I don't see the Hawks agreeing to any trade involving a midfielder instead of a ruckmen coming to the Hawks.

Michael Gardiner for Daniel Chick

Now that idea I like...

But after reading this article there is no chance in my opinion of it happening unless draft picks are thrown in.

Chick deal at standstill
By Craig O'Donoghue

NEGOTIATIONS between Hawthorn and West Coast for the services of star midfielder Daniel Chick have already hit a wall.

The Hawks told West Coast they want a ruckman in exchange for their 2001 best and fairest but Eagles chief executive Trevor Nisbett rejected the request outright.

Trade week has been pushed back from the first week of October to the end of the month, so talks haven't reached their crucial stages. But both clubs admit they are struggling to find any common ground.

"We're miles apart at the moment," Nisbett said. "They are definitely after a ruckman but we will not be trading Michael Gardiner or Dean Cox.

"We know what they want but we haven't got a ruckman to throw up. We've just signed Cox on a two-year deal. What are we going to do, play an entire year with one ruckman? It's not going to happen.

"There is no chance of our ruckmen going anywhere."

The Hawks need a ruckman to replace the retired Shaun Rehn. They have youngsters Robert Campbell and David Loats on the list but they have played only 10 games between them. Nathan Thompson has done plenty of damage in the ruck in recent years, but he needs a partner to shoulder the load.

Hawthorn coach Peter Schwab said the ball was now in West Coast's court. "Obviously we need a ruckman," he said. "It's up to West Coast whether they are prepared to trade."

Fremantle is also interested in Chick but Hawthorn football operations manager John Hook said the Dockers were yet to present a reasonable offer.

The Hawks are still angry they were forced to trade Luke McPharlin last year, to prevent him from going to Fremantle via the pre-season draft. The Dockers were later banned from that draft for breaching the salary cap.

Hook warned both WA clubs that Hawthorn wouldn't trade Chick if they weren't prepared to offer quality players in exchange. He said draft picks would not be considered.

"We've all been in the game long enough to know what's fair and reasonable," he said.

"We are sympathetic towards Daniel wanting to return home to be closer to his family. We are prepared to do a deal for Daniel, but we won't let people stand here with a gun to our head. We can't let people take advantage of us.

"If we had to do a deal tomorrow, we couldn't do one. I have a good relationship with Trevor Nisbett but from the initial discussions that we had, we couldn't do a deal."

Chick is due to return to WA after the sudden death of his brother Justin. The 30-year-old father of three passed away on Sunday night after suffering an allergic reaction.

The Hawks have spoken to Chick since the tragedy but Schwab said they wouldn't mention football matters for some time.

"With his brother passing away, there are obviously a couple of issues with the family farm. We haven't pushed ahead with the footy stuff right at the moment," he said.

campbell's no full back, know all, ro all

He's no ruckman either, at least not yet, as seen when he let a Corey McKernan with absolutely zero confidence destroy him in the ruck.

Do you take my posting seriously?

Nah, you're good fun.

You better be playing on Sunday Rohan - since you believe you're the best player on these boards, you have a lot to live up to. Or is that another example of your less than serious posting?

It;s only a matter of time till Loater and Campbo are legends of the game and gates are named after them

Nah deadly serious. I'm the best player on these boards. Don't try to take my Carlton bashing to heart Jim, put it down to the Internet.

Crow fans are hoping that the Hawks will take Laurence Angwin this pre season. So there's your ruckman. Perhaps we could help out in the Chick deal.

Chick to West Coast
Angwin to Hawthorn
now who have the Eagles got that the Crows would want?

Jerome
