Our new generation of Hawks are coming in 2023. Listening to Sam Mitchell speak at our 2023 AGM is exciting, a few things he said caught my attention.

1. The Hawks current list has our next corr of premiership players in it. Our list moving forward will be tweaked each year moving forward.

2. The Hawks targeted Cooper Stephen, we thought we may of Cooper in the 2023 trade period. We were lucky enough to get him a year earlier than expected.

He said he thought they’d progressed to 12 months ahead of where they thought they might be

Ian Dickers endorsement played a role for Merlino and Hudson. Stoked for Gowers. Hopefully he can deliver. And look, Jeff was good and I did love how forthright he was. But this was a poor succession plan and I wasn't confident in Nankivell from what I've heard and seen of him.

Agreed. An that Weddle will be a big part of our future success.

An in Hawks Zoom call Sam said he wanted Hawk fans bums on seat.

Also said he liked JOM. TOM didn’t get a mention in the same way. Said JOM leaving enabled Meek and Weddle

I still think while the season will outlast the young team, there will be some reasons to celebrate on the way

Agreed, it will be a year of highs and lows.

There should be a few young Hawks whom have been in the AFL system for 2-4 years ready to stand up for a full season.

Worpel should be ready to stand up. Add Stephens, Maginness, Moore, Jiath, Day, Jeka.

Kennett’s endorsement was the kiss of death for Nankivell.
100%, if Nankivell was able to stand on his own and didn't have Jeff throwing out shots on his behalf I think he'd have gotten the nod. I liked him.

My thoughts about tonight.

1. I feel sorry for those supporters who never saw Bob Keddie play. But if you want to learn anything about Hawthorn passion and the love of the club and your teammates - and the sheer humility of such a great player - just watch his wonderful heartfelt address when he accepted life membership. It was the highlight of the night for me.

2. Andy Gowers. What a gracious acceptance speech. Taking the time and space to pay tribute to Kennett and Nankivell. He could have done that with a passing sentence, but he did more and (despite his true feelings and the slander Kennett and Nankivell, and their nominated cohorts, had directed at him over past weeks), he gave both of them his honour and respect - and was applauded for doing so. Truly presidential.

3. Kennett. If anyone had the slightest doubt before tonight, he proved himself to be a sore loser and, put simply, an utter prick.
Not one but 2 cringeworthy jibes at Gowers - “Andy, we expect you to get the $25 million immediately, and the other $10 million as well”. Not a single laugh from the members. Telling the new president to “put up or shut up”!
You’d think he would have read the room by that stony audience reaction. But he made the same jibe again. When someone made a comment from the audience, because he was droning on like a sore loser, he said “shut up”. Why does Kennett keep reminding me of Trump the loser?

4. And Kennett announced he had not enough time to answer the questions submitted in advance by non-attending members. I wonder why?
But after Kennett said one more question from the floor, which he took and answered, he then took another question. It wasn’t a question at all, of course, because it was a put up job from former board member, Geoff Harris, who droned on for 5 minutes about how wonderful Jeff was. And then Jeff repaid the compliment for 2 minutes, spruiking the wonder of Geoff Harris. Both addresses said with an undertone of ill-feeling and resentment.

5. Did Richie Vandenberg (a Hawthorn director) really not clap the announcement of his new president? If so, that’s very disappointing - and you can piss off Richie. We’ve had a terrific fresh start in 2022 on the footy field and now a freshening up of the presidency and board - and we sure don’t need smouldering resentful directors hanging around.

Go Bob Keddie, you great man (and life member)!

Nankivell saying, with a straight face, “when they go low, we stay high” (or along those lines) was the motivating factor in me voting for Gowers. I wasn’t going to bother voting prior to that. Unbelievably tone deaf statement.

Loving Jeff's comment about the $25M now being slavishly used by his sycophants on the socials. Like any miserable partisan clown (this goes for any partisan hack by the way), the nuance always escapes them. All Gowers said was that the Time to Fly foundation was, based on information provided to Gowers, underfunded by $10M. He didn't say he was going to secure said funding - merely that distaste for Jeff had kept it out of the coffers and it was another issue with the club's governance. Kennett himself admitted he cost the club $15M. But yeah - hang the $25M instantly on Gowers before he's even started his first day.
