I am thankfull for kennetts work, especially early on. Its a shame we couldnt of used gaffa tape on Kennett at times to gag him.It was time for Kennett to go!!

We now have a new start on and off the field in 2023.

Sam said our current list as of today only needs tweaking. I will call it now, i feel the Hawks will hunt a free agent in 2023.

Speaking after the AGM, Gowers said a three-point plan based on uniting the club, regaining its “family club” values, and reclaiming on-field success would be the backbone of his presidency.
“My first point of a three-point plan is unity. If there is any division at all, I have called for a summit. We will release details of that as they come to hand. I want to get the club back in one piece, the family club ... united, moving ahead with a common purpose,” he said.
Gowers said “putting members back at the middle of the club” was his second priority.
While Kennett refused to release the polling numbers of the presidential vote, Gowers said he favoured the release, because he “wants to bring us (Hawks) back to being open and transparent about things”.

“The members are the ones who voted - I am leaning towards doing that,” Gowers said.
He also thanked members for voting in “historically large numbers”.
Gowers said it was too early to say whether he would make changes at an executive level, particularly after the Egan report examining the club’s handling of First Nations players.
He said he wants the Hawks to again be a “destination club” for players, and fun for the fans.
“I know our future is incredibly bright. That will begin with our summer,” he said.

Not a great look Vanders.

Wonder if Katie Hudson would be in line to be the next VP. Would be a good way for Gowers to mend fences with the current board, select a good Hawthorn person with excellent commercial acumen and possibly have Katie take the presidency on in the future if it was something she was keen on.

My thoughts about tonight.

1 I feel sorry for those supporters who never saw Bob Keddie play. But if you want to learn anything about Hawthorn passion and the love of the club and your teammates - and the sheer humility of such a great player - just watch his wonderful heartfelt address when he accepted life membership. It was the highlight of the night for me.

2. Andy Gowers. What a gracious acceptance speech. Taking the time and space to pay tribute to Kennett and Nankivell. He could have done that with a passing sentence, but he did more and (despite his true feelings and the slander Kennett and Nankivell, and their nominated cohorts, had directed at him over past weeks), he gave both of them his honour and respect - and was applauded for doing so. Truly presidential.

3. Kennett. If anyone had the slightest doubt before tonight, he proved himself to be a sore loser and, put simply, an utter prick.
Not one but 2 cringeworthy jibes at Gowers - “Andy, we expect you to get the $25 million immediately, and the other $10 million as well”. Not a single laugh from the members. Telling the new president to “put up or shut up”!
You’d think he would have read the room by that audience reaction. But he made the same jibe again. When someone made a comment from the audience, because he was droning on like a sore loser, he said “shut up”. Why does Kennett keep reminding me of Trump the loser?

4. And Kennett announced he had not enough time to answer the questions put in advance by non-attending members. I wonder why?
But after Kennett said one more question from the floor, which he took and answered, he then took another question. It wasn’t a question at all, of course, because it was a put up job from former board member, Geoff Harris, who droned on for 5 minutes about how wonderful Jeff was. And then Jeff repaid the compliment for 2 minutes, spruiking the wonder of Geoff Harris. Both addresses said with an undertone of ill-feeling and resentment.

5. Did Richie Vandenberg (a Hawthorn director) really not clap the announcement of his new president? If so, that’s very disappointing - and you can piss off Richie. We’ve had a terrific fresh start in 2022 on the footy field and now a freshening up of the presidency and board - and we sure don’t need smouldering resentful directors hanging around.

Go Bob Keddie, you great man (and life member).
Very good summary.
A real shame with Kennett, horribly cringeworthy, lacking sincerity, massive sore loser. The change couldn’t have come soon enough in the end.

Uniting the Club is going to be hard.

The news re Vanders is a great chance for Gowers to put his own man if the Footy Director role. Going to be interesting who he might appoint, but he will need synergy, the individual will need to put the appropriate pressure on Sam and the Footy Dept. Just my view.

Disappointed to see Vandenburg couldn’t bury the hatchet and put the club first, but I think we should also be happy that if he’s really not on board with the changes and can’t get passed them then the sooner he goes the better.

I do wonder though if he actually understands why the members voted this way, because he did say on one of the podcasts that he thinks the calls for change came on the back of the Clarkson removal, which is certainly a different read to what I have seen from most on here over the journey.

Really disappointed in Vanders, has really let himself down with how he's acted throughout this whole process. Seems to be quite tone deaf to how the members have been feeling. Not clapping, resigning immediately, just childish. Thought better of him.

I have nothing to base this on at all, but i wonder whether the immediacy of Vanders' resignation reflects a gentelman's agreement re which board members would stay pending the election of the president.

It's also bloody annoying, as I assume now we have to pay out more $ to run an election campaign for his replacement, right?
