Welcome Hawthorn appoints Tracey Gaudry as its new CEO

Look clearly there will be people who will question her merit simply because she's a woman

And I'm totally ok with that as it would be terrible to appointment someone to such an important position just because she was a woman

IMO she is a terrific appointment and a lot of people are going to release over time that a woman can do a super job as CEO of an AFL club

And that's a good thing

Her CV is impressive and really think we got the right person. She has experience in a diverse range of fields and if a previous post is correct she doesn't take crap all the better.
I'm really happy we took OUR time to appoint someone WE thought was the right candidate that suited OUR current needs.
Without knowing the gender of the person if that CV came across your desk you'd say not a bad candidate. Morons worried about her gender, invest in a flux capacitor and get out of the Stone Age.

Sorry to intrude - but - To the uninformed, your statement may sound ok - but Gaudry was a female pro. There is very little drug suspicions in that field (outside of a few standouts) simply because there wasn't/isn't enough dough in women's cycling to support systemised doping. And to be a long term female cycling pro means you are tough - a dangerous hard sport in which you make very little money in very tough conditions.

Gaudry is a very impressive figure who has driven change at the UCI (International Cycling body). Athletics Australia has actually gone through a major transformation as well - are you aware of how much we improved in athletics at the last Olympics? She is a good operator. You are lucky to have her.

No need to apologise when posting useful information. Or making jokes about Geelong.

She certainly does have strong credentials.

This is a really smart appointment. For all the talk about her involvement in sport she was the Head of Operations for the Australian branch of Jacobs (large engineering firm) for about 7 years. She'll be great for delivering Dingley.
I was going to query her experience overseeing the building of a top-notch facility - that assures me to no end.

If this was a male appointment we would be all gushing over the CV, instead we have a highly qualified female with this same CV and there are some on here that seem to think that the appointment only could have happened as a result of gender tokenism or PC, bugger me dead we have some real numpties on here.

I can also most see the media's next angle.... the next time Clarko let's lose over something everyone will be jumping up and down saying that the new female CEO can't control the raging and violent senior coach....

More than that. "As a woman she needs to lead the charge by seriously punishing him" will be the catch cry.

Does Clarko report to the CEO, or the Board, or both? I always thought of the CEO as very much an off-field thing, outside of watching over the money (but really not getting involved in the football department spending choices).

And I guarantee that angle will come from Caro. It will be her that focuses on the "female" rather than CEO title

Her resume looks good, sounds like a good appointment from where I sit. Best thing about it is that it wasn't one of the people the media were so sure was going to be appointed ;) I don't give two hoots if she is a man or a woman and I assume the club doesn't either, best person for the job end of story would be the criteria I am sure. We don't bow to irrelevant outside influences.
This has happened before at Hawthorn. Think it was to do with a coaching appointment. Not sure how that went.......

Spare me the women don't criticise other women nonsense, joke or not. True feminism is about rights, equal rights, equal pay and the opportunity to be treated as equals with respect. Criticism is part of life. For the record I'm not a big fan of Caro, her methods are grating, but some of the attacks on her over the years have been horrible, the more valid ones don't attack her gender but her work, after all she makes that easy at times.

Tracey seems to have has a great range of experience across business & sports that will be a great asset to the club and the club clearly sees her potential. I hope she has a long career with us.

Spare me the self righteous crap as well. Most people have a sense of humour, sorry that you don't.

Today, Hawthorn football club appointed the AFL's next CEO. Isn't that where everyone in AFL circles goes to recruit senior personnel?

She will soon become the most powerful woman in AFL. Look out Caro :D

Its 2017 ffs we have skills too! Grow up, diversity is good for an organisation, it breeds new ideas, and helps facilitate change.

Just to let people who are still in the 1960's:

1. The Chief Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria is a woman. Judge Marilyn Warren is an excellent lawyer and administrator, been in the job 14 years.

2. The Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia is a woman, Susan Kiefel. She's new, so I can't say much, but she's there on merit.

But, you know, jobs for the girls and that.

.

Mate, you're not going to win over the 'this is just PC nonsense' crowd by naming magistrates. They're the ones responsible for all the crime in Victoria remember.

next we will have the first female footballer on a afl list....

Too late

Just watched the press conference with plenty of trepidation and was completely blown away. She's very impressive. I've never heard a footy club CEO speak like that, particularly the way she answered questions.

I remember about 18 months ago the Dogs appointed a former CEO of Nike in the USA as their CEO. He was Australian, a Bulldogs supporter, and incredibly successful in his field. On paper it looked like the perfect CEO for the Bulldogs. He didn't front the media, just a little Q&A video with him was posted on the club's website.
All he spoke about were wanky things like "we don't want to be everyone's second team anymore" etc.
He walked out on the Bulldogs 9 months later for reasons yet to be determined.

She's absolutely across everything and has a clear plan for our strategy and operations, perhaps more off field, going forward. All centred around Hawthorn continuing to be the best at everything we do.

This is a very unique and innovative appointment that could give us a competitive advantage.

Welcome to Hawthorn, Tracy Gaudry. Good luck Chief.
