Please don’t bring Barrett’s sliding doors rubbish here. That’s not the Hawthorn footy club in the media.

That’s a desperate article, trying to get clicks every week.

I try to defend Champion Data where I can but it doesn't help when Hoyne uses multiple different models, in particular models that aren't the publicly available one which most people refer to
Yeah its hard to trust their worth…

AFL individual performance is very hard to measure. There are multiple ways to win a match so any measure that presupposes some actions (contested possessions/turnovers) are good/bad/worth more/less than other actions is going to throw out anomalies. Maybe moore is just that anomaly 😀

I think it's fine so long as you're averaging it out, that way at least game by game anomalies are accounted for. Moore probably isn't even their biggest anomaly, Mason Cox was rated elite as a forward not long back.

Don’t really have a useful comment on this data but I do have what I believe may be the only stats joke in the world so I’ll add that as my contribution.

A physicist, a chemist and a statistician are out hunting. They spot a trophy stag over the rise and the physicist takes a shot at him, but misses by a metre to the left. The chemist shoots next but misses by a metre to the right.

The statistician excitedly jumps up and exclaims ‘Beauty! We got the bastard!’.

Sometimes the numbers are just numbers….

I would advise everybody to expect a Nick Blakey situation and then be pleasantly surprised if it isn't.

I assume the same and hope I'm wrong, but the Clarko retirement policy might be biting us in the arse.
I don't know. Hodge did choose to retire as a Hawk, the paperwork was filed with the AFL and he had a media gig lined up. It was Fagan who talked him out of retirement and then Clarko asked him to stay if he was going to continue playing, but seems Hodge was already sold on the Lions opportunity and could see the retirement lifestyle he could have up there after footy.

Think it will all come down to how We are playing and if Brisbane are still up the top.

Hopefully by the time he has to make his decision we’re in the 8 and are the hottest young side in the comp and Brisbane are rebuilding
I think there’s a chance the afl close the loophole. It’s a really bad look for the game if such a club hero has potentially 4 father son eligible kids go to a rival club. Yes it happened with Blakey but he was eligible for 2 clubs and his dad was assistant at Sydney.

In any case we probably need to cool our jets. Still a lot of water to go under bridge.

You would also hope that our Administration would be asking questions to the AFL as well to Put the heat on them.

Same goes with the North McKay compo. Club presidents must pose the question to the AFL asking what compo North will be receiving. Put the pressure on the AFL and don’t allow them to give North pick 3 for a bloke who has played 65 games in 8 years. Norths issues are their own fault (poor list management / drafting / development). Anything more than a 2nd round pick for McKay is just corruption. We must pose the questions

Especially if Brisbane are winning flags with 2 Ashcrofts and a Fletcher killing it.

Yep. Gone.
You know what as much as I'd love him to choose Hawthorn I don't want him unless he really wants us. Much like any free agent that doesn't want to come to Hawthorn we'll move on and we'll be okay. This is one of those things that is unfortunately out of our control much like when they changed the FS requirement from 50 games played to 100. If the kid chooses the Lions then so be it and what I'd like to see us do is make the him regret it if he chooses that path.
