Just like last years thread, whatever Barrett has to say is not Hawthorn in the media.

Couldn’t care less for his shit takes, they don’t belong here.

The idea that the club, players or coaches don’t feel the pain of a loss or the need to ask hard questions of themselves without the media baking them is quite an odd stance.
It's not an odd stance. That's why coaches have been baking their players for years. It challenges them. It dares them to ... "do something". Nothing else has worked, we deserve it & it might actually serve a purpose. I'm hoping it does! Judging by some of the players' efforts, body language & total lack of system or cohesion, it appears as if they're a little nonplussed about it all. The media is just reiterating Sam's press conference. Totally unacceptable!

I dont know - i am not clairvoyant... But you go ahead and make another assumption then.

As a paid up member, for my family, i'm not happy with what they are delivering. Quite angry. Last Sat night was the worst i have seen, certainly in recent memory anyway.

Our performance was crap.

Or does it offend you that someone is voicing an opinion that differs to you ?
No, it doesn’t offend me.

It just makes me laugh when people think that the club and all involved with it need the media or even “angry members” to remind them that they’re meant to when trying to win games of football.

Hodge on SEN fairly reasonable before.

Says we’re still rebuilding and long way to go. Sam is trying things and obviously frustrated but all understandable. No real depth in squad and unable to weather the current injury load.

Poor starts are the most frustrating thing. We’re 5.14 for all our first quarters combined for the year. A lot of easy misses putting us on the back foot.

They also talked about how hard it is to rebuild with current lack of depth in draft, and academies etc. Quality after first round as weak as its ever been. Takes us and other clubs a lot longer to rebuild than in any previous period of afl.

We don't need his words. We need his first born.

can we have both?
FIFY - can ask for both without this HIG as an FYI
Compromise Shrug GIF

Thought it was interesting today, was listening to the Hawks Insiders podcast on their review of the suns game. One of the host., nat Martin I think, was recalling something from Xavier Ellis’s pod where they had heard from some inside the club during the preseason that several of the younger players were thinking they were better than we really are after our strong finish to the season.
Based on some of the performances to date from some of our younger players, I feel it could be true.

I have a feeling that there are going to be some home truths spoken this week

I got that sense from Dylan Moore’s interview on Channel 7 - he said something along the lines of players not living to the standards required / players just doing the minimum training.

Interesting times.

It's a pile on.

The stupid part about this is that they all sat there taking about how the academy’s and father sons have diluted the draft and that the clubs near the bottom will have to compete with Tassie, but instead of declaring the AFL need to to look at it and change something Brown said this line about how it’s set up for Tasmania to be given enough kids to win a flag before us and they all just kinda shrugged their shoulders and went “..oh well….let’s talk about the dogs...”

I’m not as convinced that our list is as dire as has been made out, but the AFL could/should be making sure sides in the bottom 4 over the next two years get some sort of additional help before Tassie come in and take 8 of the top 20 kids for 3-5 years.

Man I'm so glad I don't put myself through the bullshit sporting MSM circus every week. I can't watch any of these shows.
They are a bunch of clowns that will turn on the next poor sucker/team that takes a step wrong quick as a flash.

Happy for the media to lay into the players this week. The performance on Saturday night is deserving of scathing criticism.

Criticism that hasn’t really been aimed at the younger crop previously. Coaching, list strategy, older players (Titch, JOM, Wingard, Sicily, Frost, etc) have usually been the target.

It’s only Monday. I’m expecting over the next couple nights the media will start rolling out footage of sub standard efforts of our midfield. And if they don’t it will be a huge let off.

That’s certainly true and even more so with expansion but clubs down the bottom need more help anyway regardless. Eve all seen how infrequently bottoming out works and how long it takes even when it does. The draft as I’ve said before only gives the bottom club one extra player (albeit pick 1) over the premier each year, free agency is stacked in favour of successful clubs and the bottom clubs asset salary cap can’t really be used yet except for dodgy workarounds. Minimum we need pick purchasing, I still think giving the bottom teams outside the 8 the first 20 picks would also go a long way to shortening the rebuild cycle.

Hopefully they roll out the footage of Ginnivan on the ground and not one of our players doing anything about it. Sickening.

This is a very real thing nowadays.

The talent drain to other sports is a problem that the AFL tried to address with the academies but inadvertently created a whole other problem as we have seen with the compromised and diluted drafts.
