I don't see why it is in the public's interest. Why do the public need to know? For their safety? Drag their names through the mud? I have never really understood journalism/media/society's sticky beaking.

St Kilda came out and named Milne and Montagna to stop the endless speculation and false names that were flying around.

Given the names will likely come out anyway, you can argue it's best to just get it out there, and stop all the fake/incorrect rumours about who it is.

Will the names of the players come out eventually?
It was with every other player in recent times when police are involved.
Hawthorn surely don't get special treatment in any cover up by the AFL.
An uproar otherwise

Without a charge being laid, why should they?

Its all a matter of degrees. Some would argue its in the publics interests to know the identity of specific type of alleged offenders. Not that I'd expect this or these players to re-offend any time soon.

Derryn Hinch will tell you and I'm inclined to agree that there are certain offences where the public definitely have a right if not a need to know who perpetrates those types of offences.
Oh yeah definitely agree with Derryn Hinch's naming of child sex offenders and the like. But these players have just been alleged to have committed a crime. Whereas Hinch names convicted people.

Would the AFL punish Hawthorn if they knowingly traded out players who were being investigated for rape but they did not tell the club those players were being traded to?
One would hope so.Severe punishment if someone has been sent packing North who has been implicated.

I don't think we'll have to wait too long. Neil Mitchell will surely name the two players tomorrow morning.

As he said last time it was in the public's interest regardless of whether they are eventually charged or not.
Doubt if that sanctimonious hypocrite Mitchell will name the 2 players involved in this instance, nor should he. Although, if they were Collingwood players he definitely would name them.

Well why did the first news reports say two hawthorn players?

The only source that said that it was just one player was HawthornFC.

Now it's back to two players.
Very suss I think. An attempt at a cover up that backfired.

The media would not just make up that there were two players involved - if the media knew, how didn't the club ?

Ah, well there is your first mistake.

Hinch does not do it for the good of the public. He does it for his own self-promotion.

Do not forget, he forced a lengthy adjournment a trial through such an act.

Not only did that cause unimaginable stress and trauma to the victims, who had to wait years longer to give their evidence and have the matter finalised, it also left the accused free for that time.

In that period, the accused offended against more people - people who would have been safe if not for Hinch's big mouth.

So you think the Hawks have the Victorian police department in their pocket

So do we know who Homer S is yet?
