The problem is the afl has brushed away incidents like this for to long and still is and it breeds toxic cultures. Pies investigations led to no one being punished individuals and the same with Goodes even Betts at crows all was brushed aside and both players union and afl act like we didn't know.

Yes. He wasn't willing to keep quiet and "know his place" and since he didn't do what is expected of black players, to stay quiet and be grateful, he was completely destroyed by the media and people on this site.
Goodes the same.
Took the stand and made someone accountable for being a piece of shit.

Its sad he was the one to pay the price for that.

My point is that racists don’t get to say “I don’t care about these horrific stories, I only care about defending the white guy, BUT I’m less racist than this other campaigner!”

You’re a racist, and you’re an arseh*le. (This obviously isn’t directed at you, just a rant into the ether.)

But I feel like that’s even less nuanced.
Fair point, some of the attitudes in this thread have been truly disgusting.

No, it's not.

People like harp on about how 'racist' we are as nation.

Those same people would die of shock if they extensively travelled the world and realised how inherently racist Asians, Europeans, people in the Americas are, etc.

I'm not saying we cant do better here but on an international scale, it may blow your mind to know that we actually aren't as racist as people so desperately want to believe we are.
Try being a native Fijian in Fiji

What do people here think was the motive?

Did Clarko and co simply decide to be mean to selected aboriginal players?

At a guess he thought he’d get them more dedicated to football and working only on that would benefit him as a coach, and the team, leading to more on-field success.

I don’t think Clarko would of thought of it as being mean, he’d have thought he was doing it for “their own good”.

Well all evidence points to it only being indigenous players at the moment.

If his best defence is “I did it to white players too and here is proof!”, well then he’s just an equal opportunity arseh*le.

So yes it may not be racism, but if that’s his defence I can’t see it helping him too much.

What would North think “oh he will encourage any young player to cut off his family and partners from their lives just to focus on the club, all good!”.

The report was literally only conducted as a review into their former indigenous players. They only interviewed indigenous players. So there wouldn’t be any evidence of anyone else yet.

What I found interesting and equally strange was Shaun Burgoyne comments today that he was never interviewed as part of Hawthorns review into their treatment of the indigenous during which this was uncovered.

Robbo finds it hard to believe, yet fearful of the outcomes.

I agree with Robbo. On both points.

ROBBO
KNOWS

PUT YOUR FAITH IN ROBBO :)

Thing is, what is the goal you’re trying to accomplish? Want less racism? You need to convince people. Does calling them racist assholes achieve anything?

No. It feels good and sure, I get what you’re saying, it makes me furious, but it doesn’t change anything.

I think it’s more productive to get them to explain their position. Like I said earlier, do they believe Indigenous people have a genetic predisposition to violence?

Do they believe Indians are inherently less intelligent than whites? Etc. Pick apart their flawed reasoning. Not online though, it’s a huge waste of time, effort, and resources.

Even in person can be draining and even go south but a less confrontational approach is obviously gonna achieve more than an angry one.
The issue is less with discussing with someone and changing their viewpoint, which I agree with, a non-confrontational approach is 10x more effective than calling someone a campaigner and moving on with your life. It's more so that it really hinders how people who don't deal with racism view racism. For people who don't deal with racism on a daily basis they merely view it as slurs or slavery or the extremes like genocide, they'll never really understand that micro-aggressions or offhand comments can be really traumatising for people if they think it's "not as bad" as other forms as racism

It's not about being angry and calling everyone a campaigner who disagrees with your opinion, and more about the fact that taking a hard-line stance on ALL racism is the only way we can really put racism into perspective for those who don't understand. Trying to compare different kinds of racism just makes the conversation more difficult and harder to comprehend

Not this BS again.
Not guilty isn't the same thing as innocent.
If it was the same thing, then someone couldn't sue you in a civil suit for the same thing and win.
People often are found not guilty in a criminal case but end up paying substantial damages in a civil case.
Exhibit A: OJ Simpson was found not guilty in a criminal trial but was found responsible for the death of his his ex wife in a civil trial.

Are you suggesting Clarko will claim innocence, be found not guilty, then write a book about if he did it, how he would of done it?

Might have been commentating his day like the annoying Google ad 😂.

Eddie is a legend. Wish he stayed here at the end, was everyones favourite player but we cocked up everything for a few years there

It's funny, this happened against my team, but a supporter on the boundary bet him 50 bucks he wouldn't kick a goal. When he did, he turned to the bloke and just smiled. I loved it. From memory the guy did pay up, but I just love the way he always has a smile and stays so positive after everything that's happened to him.

one for the “systemic racism does not exist” clowns

That is so F'd.

Someone is going to say we have to wait for the old white couple's side of the story before we pass judgement.
