Some are still passing it off as rumour and innuendo. I almost swerved my car off the road when I heard it on SEN. Normally this stuff pops up on Big Footy first so I wasn't expecting it. ;)

When Kennett first took over people on here joked he would sell all the clubs assets.
How wrong where we, he sold the club instead.
Is he throwing in his grandmother as well to spice up the deal?

Hawthorn's vice-president Martin Ralston says the deal means the Tasmanian Government will be providing about a quarter of the club's revenue.

Forget the branding issue, this is the critical sentence. Tassie has a very significant interest in Hawthorn. If that were to increase up to near half, then Tassie would start dictating Hawthorn policy.....including home base.

Hawks fans, what would you have prefered. Merger with Melbourne, or move interstate ?

As has already been mentioned, it is a sponsorship. If we were sponsored by the Victorian government we would be called the Victorian Hawks, likewise if we were sponsored by the national government, we would be the Australian Hawks. That said, in no uncertain terms is this a completely stupid decision. Giving the naming rights to a corporation such as HSBC, Toyata, LeasePlan etc, etc is not confusing. Whilst the club will still be known as Hawthorn, we will be known as the Tasmanian Hawthorn Hawks, but there is no doubt there is a difference between being sponsored by a government and being sponsored by an organisation.

Confusion will reign supreme.

This is what I've been saying all morning. Other Hawk fans don't believe me. If either happens then I will say goodbye

I'd feel gutted if I was a hawthorn supporter.

This on top of only having 11 matches in Victoria next year.

Trust Kennett to sell the club off.

wow, how some are easily fooled ....

Our constitution states the directors need a vote of 75% of the membership to relocate, relocation is defined as more than half our games interstate .... Tassie can not afford a relocated side, i even read where they believe any more than four games would saturate the market ...

This is a sponsorship deal for five years, we have set up substantial training facilities at Waverly, get ready for an announcement whereby we will have a membership package with access to 11 reserved seat games at the MCG

It is understandable to read from Kangas and Bulldog supporters crowing about our supposed demise, there clubs are being financed by the AFL, but when fellow Hawk supporters go along with the crap that is written

disapointing

oh yes how terrible of us to try and find our own sponsorship money and endeavour to survive without handouts, much better to be badly managed and stick our hand out to be fed by the AFL ..

This gloating by Bulldog and Kanga supporters is really starting to **** me, you think supporters of those two clubs especially would be more understanding

This is a disgrace, I dont follow the Tassie Hawks! I follow the Hawthorn Football Club! I wont be want to be a member of the Tassie Hawks!

Still the same team

You'll all get over it...if its true

The Taswegian Whoreks

Good coin and a nice earner.

Now that North & Hawthorn have their interstate markets sewn up and keeping in the AFL expansion good books, pressure on the Dogs, Demons & Blue Baggers to scratch out an existence
