Toast How can this Melbourne side be stopped?

Once the margin in the GF becomes insurmountable, the losing side tend to drop their heads and we often see blowouts. Plus Doggies were flying all over the country prior to that game. Not overly surprised they faded. Josh Bruce would’ve been handy as well. Other than that, yeah I guess Demons looked decent. Long time ago now though. Not sure it’s relevant?

Swans are good. Warner and Rowbottom were immense tonight. Your defence was impenetrable. Get a few key players back and you’ll be in it up to your eyeballs. Great club. A Sydney vs Freo GF would be fantastic.
Yeah, the Dogs really missed Bruce's 13 goals in the Grand Final, made all the difference

The best part is, we get to go and watch a premiership winning team and not have to line up half an hour to get a beer. You get to do that, whilst watching a team that hasn't made the finals for nearly a decade. I don't see the downside for us.

As great as these 2 weeks have been Melbourne aren't done. Small form dip. They will only get better. Any expectation for them to capitulate from here can't be further from what's going to happen.

My god you are so salty
Scroll back through this thread if you really want to mine for salt. Richmond fans unable to accept that their time in the sun is over have provided plenty.

So Melbourne fans making excuses like a couple of injuries over a loss, am I hearing correctly? May got injured, Langdon out, Petracca bit sick lol.
Did we not have a heap last year plus illness on top?
Interesting no one wanted a bar of our reasons.
Looks like Melbourne rely on a few players like everyone else but are a bunch of very hypocritical fans.
You realise we lost to almost every bottom 4 team last year yeah? Like did you know that before posting or not?

It's got nothing to do with relying on a few players. It's a form slump that's affecting all elements of our game.

That said, our form slump has been going on for about 8 weeks now with maybe 1 decent game in there. I don't think we can reverse it as bad habits have now become the norm.

Too much common sense there TK, 2 losses in a row and the sky is falling from oppo supporters, can't really blame them, it's always fun to pot the Premiers.

I mean I also don’t want to downplay the swans win. ha ha

But melbourne are now the big scalp , the team you fire up to beat as well.

But yeah cmon 10-2 and both losses reasonably close carrying a few key injuries and players a bit sore

people keen to put them down but still the best side in it imo

Your boys always give us a run for our money and you outplayed us well tonight. Would look forward to playing your again in the finals.

I called it a month ago, that if Melbourne were gonna lose games it’d be around June where they had a form slump last year. Heavy training load, most likely. Needless to say, they aren’t perfect and there are a few teams who should be able to test them in finals (just not the Bulldogs, they’re softcocks).

Key defenders would be licking their lips coming up against their bloody ordinary forward line.

Melbourne's last two weeks give the rest of us a little hope. Hope that'll probably be mashed to pieces in the finals.

Tough question. If you had to take Petracca or McCartin for the rest of their careers, who are you taking? Key position defenders that can dominate aerially like McCartin did tonight are extremely valuable in the modern game IMO. Petracca is a very good player, don’t get me wrong, but they’re a lot easier to find (see: Jai Newcomb) than brick walls like Paddy.

I said the same thing about training loads a few weeks ago and got laughed at by opposition supporters after bringing it up again after the Fremantle loss. We went through a heavy training load this time last year, and lost to Adelaide and Collingwood, so this trough in form doesn't surprise me... or worry me.

I've also worked in sports science and football clubs and know that heavy loads often take place just prior to a bye as that break will provide a recovery period from those heavier loads.

Anyway, no doubt I'll be laughed at again as making up excuses. I guess we'll just see how we go towards the back end of the season.
