I said the same thing about training loads a few weeks ago and got laughed at by opposition supporters after bringing it up again after the Fremantle loss. We went through a heavy training load this time last year, and lost to Adelaide and Collingwood, so this trough in form doesn't surprise me... or worry me.

I've also worked in sports science and football clubs and know that heavy loads often take place just prior to a bye as that break will provide a recovery period from those heavier loads.

Anyway, no doubt I'll be laughed at again as making up excuses. I guess we'll just see how we go towards the back end of the season.
I hope you’re right on training loads, but do training loads make you kick to the opposition’s spare defender over and over?

I realise this is probably a troll but if you take Trac or even Oliver out then it’s a pretty average midfield too.
Any of Gawn, Oliver, Petracca or May being injured drags them back to the pack massively.
What do you mean drags them back to the pack? They’ve been overtaken by Sydney and Freo. Carlton when they get their full side on the park will probably pip them soon too. Demons are the chasing pack.

I don’t think Melbourne are the only team to have unlocked the magical secret of increasing training loads in the lead up to a bye.

As if it’s some sports science secret only the demons fully understand and implement.

The forward connection is horrendous at the moment. If that can be sorted out Melbourne are still in good shape.

Won contested ball in tonight’s game which is what generates the opportunities, and pretty much broke even in clearance.

But if the key forwards remain in such terrible form and the bizarre kick selections into 50 continue Melbourne will continue to battle irrespective of what happens in the backline or midfield.
And we are 18th for pressure over the last 6 weeks. Still 4-2 in that period including a win over the saints. Quiet a few need to lift with the pressure. It was quiet noticeable at times last night.

Of all premiers over the past decade, the only teams Melbourne aren't better placed than after 12 rounds is Hawthorn 2013 and....Melbourne 2021. And even then we are pretty similar in terms of points for and against compared to last year. We only had that one loss but if we beat the Pies we'll basically be in the exact same position in 2022 at the bye as we were last year at the bye.

Sydney were comfortably the better team last night and won off the back of two contentious free kicks. I think they would have found a way to win regardless but to not be the better team on the night and still be in a position to win with 4 minutes left probably gives the best indication of where we are at. Freo absolutely went another notch last week. But people are carrying on like this is the fall of Melbourne. Give me a break. Aside from Melbourne last year it's extremely rare for a team to go through a season without a 6+ goal loss. Richmond 2017-2020 rings a bell, because they had some pretty bad losses throughout those years.

Last year was Melbourne taking a league by storm. What is really going to determine how good they are is if they can rise up a level at a time when other teams are getting closer to their 2021 form. We're 10-2 and people are carrying on like these losses are unheard of from premiership teams. It's just not true.

We got some issues right now but we've been uninspiring all year and are still 10-2. Regardless of the competition that's still 10-2.

carlton 1995 won their 16th game in a row of the season to win the premiership. by round 12 of 1996 they were a game clear on top of the ladder having only lost 2 games.
from there they finished the season 5th and got smacked in their finals.

And they also had their streak broken by Freo!

Questions now have to be asked about whether Simon Goldstein's off field issues are destabilising the club.

I think we also saw last night that the Petracca vs McCartin debate is wide open again.
Saints recruiters now vindicated after all these years. They just had him at the wrong end of the ground.

Let’s just put aside all Petracca has achieved.
