Pickett reminds me of Jeff Farmer. Except that he has a fraction of Farmer's talent. Farmer was infuriating as an opposition supporter but boy was he a magnificent player.

Now there's a thread...best small forward. Farmer v Betts v Krakouer v Bartlett v Mathews v ....

Discussion for another place perhaps but didn’t Mike Sheahan always say Milne was the best small forward he ever saw?

Milne was definitely one of the best forward pocket specialists of all time. Players like Betts and Phil Matera very good as well.

Then there are others like Leigh Matthews and Bartlett who weren’t specialists but kicked massive tallies and were certainly not talls.

Brad Johnson’s 2006 was one for the ages, but he cycled through a few positions.

But certainly for another thread.

They should off let brayshaw and Jackson go get meek and tucker plus draft capital then put a offer in front of Harry McKay and draft capital infront of the blues that they can’t refuse.

No forward line you can jag a flag like dees and dogs have.
But to back it up you need a gun fwd line

Just can’t question the talent of the team - it’s clear for everyone to see.

A record of 10-0 v bottom 10 sides and 6-8 v the other top 8 just tells me, as harshly as it may seem, that they’re downhill skiers. When the heat got turned up, they couldn’t handle the kitchen.

Will be keen to see how they bounce back in 2023, particularly if they add Brodie Grundy to relieve Max Gawn of his ruck duties.

Not sure about that as what can Gawn do if he isn't in the ruck?
Play him at CHF, or deep when the ball movement is abit slower.

I understand he has the yips infront of goal, but he’s still a bloody great mark. In a game where you’re holding a 12 point lead late, chuck him as the extra down back.

Don't forget about the near-centurion Peter Daicos! He played a lot in the midfield, but three seasons of 75+ goals is pretty crazy.

He is a great mark, but as you say - a really poor kick. More importantly (perhaps), he cannot apply pressure in the forward line.

Seem to run out of puff at half time and too many players carrying injuries. They will reset, and be in the mix again next year.

They should be going all out for a KPF though, not Grundy.
Spot on. Probably needed to rest players in season and freshen them up. It was too late to blood players come finals. Too many sore bodies and just couldn’t get through games in the second half of the season. We’ll need to make a few changes and add a bit of speed to the team. Also not overly keen on Grundy. I was initially but not so much now.

Freo. They have an astute coach, who has them playing well and have quality players to add to the team that won in Geelong. They're also in a position to not have to rush Fyfe back and can let him build up to being cheery ripe for the business end of the season.
Interesting

Demons fwd line needs work.

No gun key fwd and long high bombs to the fwd pocket.

It's been a problem for the last half a season.

Fritsch has been brilliant but if not for him then Melbourne might not have even made finals.
They've got van Rooyen and we'll give them Grundy for a 1997 Picture magazine with pages stuck together so Gawn can sit forward more. They'll be fine

Yes it is. That’s a H&A crowd, not a do or die final when the majority of Dees supporters didn’t get to see last years run in the flesh.

Not only was it a poor crowd for the occasion, but the Lions supporters made all the noise.

A H&A crowd?

Have Melbourne ever got that many against interstate opposition at the MCG in a H&A game?

I honestly think they got arrogant. Listening to Goody in pressers talking about taking things up a level and warning other teams, reminded me of Malthouse.
I think they thought they could waltz in and take the flag.
