How did Port Adelaide lose its soul?

I don't even think morell should be able to post on this board and I definitely didn't read any of his posts after I understood he just can't take losing but that's just me

What Bernie said, I do not support GWS, I think it's got something to do with the fact I am using an iPad which makes it impossible NOT to pick a club in your profile.

I still hope Port win, it's not like one can just turn that bit of their brain off, but I couldn't justify spending time and money on something that wasn't enjoyable. Life is short dudes, gotta pack in as much as you can, AFL football has made way for other priorities which provide me with a greater return. It really is that simple, I would rather spend my time at my local footy club, or with my girlfriend, or with friends and family, or playing video games than supporting the PAFC for the reasons outlined earlier.

I always preach to the people around me who are stressed or depressed - to the best of your ability and knowledge begin filling your life with the things you enjoy and at the same time remove the things that are poisonous.

For me, supporting Port Adelaide and more broadly being the supporter of an AFL franchise is poisonous. If that's not the case for you, then all the best.

Says it all really. Why feel the need to come on here to gloat that you no longer support the club? Is it to convince yourself, or is it try and talk others into doing the same?? Weird. We stink atm but it wont always be the case. When we turn the corner and are back atop the perch it will taste all so sweet after what we have been through. I for one am happy i wont have a bandwagon, video gaming sook sitting next to me when it happens.
Enjoy your Duke Newkem :thumbsu:

Fortunately it's not up to you.

for I think the 7th time, me no longer supporting is somehwat to do with Port Adelaide being shit, it is part of it sure, but it's the little pieces of pasta in the whole minestrone soup of discontentment of which I have already outlined previsouly. The are so many things wrong with the club and the league in general that it is quite insulting to assume its because Port aren't doing too well.

As for why I am posting, the thread went in a direction which was discussing supporter malaise and disinterest, thought I might be able to provide some insight into that. There is an option to ignore my posts or report them if you think they are off topic.

By all means have cracks at me if you think me not supporting the AFL is somewhat immoral or jelly spined, I would have done the same thing 5 years ago, but Port Adelaide and the AFL cannot ignore people like me - the casual/estranged supporter as like it or lump it, we number in the tens of thousands and continue to grow.

I think giving up on your club is piss weak. There are aspects of the AFL- many the same as you've mentioned- that I can't stand, but I will be a Port Adelaide member for life and I will continue to support them through the good, bad and ugly.

As an opposition supporter, by all means you should feel free to come on this board and comment, but I think you lost the right to criticise Port Adelaide when you walked out on the club.

On this morning's sports show Rucci went on and on about Port supporters giving the club up by not stopping a constitutional change in a 2008 AGM. But as usual he wouldn't specify what he meant. Can anyone enlighten me and the others I have asked who didn't know?

He included even the die hards who go every week and buy merchandise and have their kids support Port.

The panel spent so much time on vague answers that in the end it smelled like a strategy to stop every Craig hater calling in and demanding his head.

Wasn't there an article during the week in which he mentions it too ? Something along the lines of members not being able to vote or make decisions or something ?? I skimmed over it intending to read it later and never did...

Rooch mentioned it in the article this thread was about but it doesnt make a lot of sense ... he seems to alude to we no longer control our club but the SAFC do?

... 'we can only vote for a nominee' to the board that is then approved/not approved by SAFC, not vote for a board member - but cant we vote for half our board and hasnt that been so since we went in AFL?

link

Ever since the Port Adelaide Football Club entered the AFL in 1997 its fans have mocked the nearby Crows' members. Port had a "club", Adelaide had a "corporation". Power fans bought "memberships", Crows supporters bought "subscriptions".

Port members could vote for their board, well half of it. Crows members (or the so-called subscribers to seats at AAMI Stadium) could nominate a board member who then needed SA Football Commission approval.

Now here is the kicker to how the Port members have betrayed themselves by being more worried about having a beer at Alberton with their players after a game - rather than protecting the very fabric of their club for future generation of Power fans and members.

They should ask why they have never seen or read the returns from last December's elections to the Power board.

They should ask why the Port Adelaide Football Club constitution was changed in 2008.

They should ask why the PAFC consitition in clause 4.9 now reads: "a `member' means a person who is a director of the company and whose name is entered as a member of the company ..."

They should consider clause 9.4 that declares they "have a right to vote in relation to the election of club NOMINEES for appointment by the league commission to the board." Sounds like the Adelaide Football Club.

They should read clauses 11 - such as 11.1 that says "the directors of the company shall be such persons as shall be appointed by time to time by the league commission and the league commission may likewise remove any director at any time."

And 11.7 that says "the league commission may in its absolute discretion decline to appoint a club nominee as a director. In that event the club membership is entitled to nominate a replacement person for appointment by the league commission as a director."

As one constitutional lawyer retained by The Rip said: "The club that once belonged to the members is now controlled by the SA Football Commission."

wont the sanfl board members be removed when the licence goes back to the afl and the members will vote in all board members instead of half the board? it will work the same way as the vic clubs. We voted in Daryl Waklin in the last vote..as far as I understand. Why he quit was strange though.

I couldn't really follow the conversation either. He's clearly stewing about something. Hasn't that always been his way? When something or someone at the club gets his nose out of joint, he tees off.

As for the constitutional issue- he's the expert with inside knowledge- why hasn't he made issue of it until now?

You need to stop talking like you talk for everyone. All I hear is waa waa, look at me. Pathetic post.

Awful lot of I's and me's in my posting powermacs.

Don't like my posts, thats ok, I rarely post here anymore and I couldn't really give a ****. Keep up with your insular and self centered viewpoint, it's clearly working for you and the footy club you support.

Lot of heads in sand around here.

are we in a cult here? People can't move on or find other interests?

I'm not an opposition supporter. I'm a neutral estranged ex Port supporter.

One of the twenty thousand who no longer give a shit.

You'll be back. It will likely be under a pseudonym but you'll be back nonetheless.

How is my view self centered?? I'm nit defending my self, I'm defending my club. Who are you quoting with your"We will be right, we are Port Adelaide" ?? I never said that, I'm sure everyone on this board knows where the club is ATM. So are you talking for everyone again??
I'm getting annoyed at myself now for wasting my time on a pathetic little sook.

Thanks for that nivek. Clearly I should have consulted the constitutional lawyer I retain before ... well I'm not sure what. Was there a vote on this issue?

And exactly right SPG. This always has been Rucci's way and if he knew of this at the time why didn't he make the song and dance then?

It's easy to look in the rear view mirror at the accident and say that wouldn't have happened if X had done Y.

If only I could hop in my Tardis and fix that ... except my constitutional lawyer has borrowed it for the weekend.

One of the twenty thousand who no longer give a shit.

Yeah, nah. Lolle.

For everyone like you that is legitimately estranged for good, there are 1000 that will be back decked out in Port gear and basking in the glory the next time we are having a flag tilt. You're kidding yourself if you don't think we'd be getting 10k a week more if we were winning and winning well.

When's the last time you ventured down to Alberton and had a look around? The framed memorabilia, the trophies, the oval, the new facilities.

The AFL as a whole is getting more and more plastic and contrived - and we've blown our own feet off nonstop for the past 4 years - but the eternal club, our club remains.

Duds, spuds and netherdowells come and go, but the club is forever. And it is currently being let down by each of its estates.

I can understand your frustration. We all feel it. But one day we'll be right again, Port Adelaide as Port Adelaide can be. And you will want to be on the crest of that tsunami of payback as the club is once again in the business of rocking faces and taking names.

Rather than burning that bridge, instead stir the embers within you every now and then. You don't want to be in that carpool lane of regret.

I'm not even talking about when September or even a flag is next in the offing, but when Butcher kicks his first bag or Hartlett/Gray/Boak have their first 90-disposal masterclass. When we unearth the next Chad Cornes or Brendon Lade and you can see the makings of greatness materialise before your eyes. When teams will run out at Adelaide Oval shitting their pants.

Our ground. Our game. Our club. Our veins.

*Sniff*

....You had me at "hello"....

Been away for the last month visiting my family. It was great to be in the northern hemisphere summer but it looks like I have returned to a frosty winter where people jump ship because we are on the bottom of the ladder.

I guess it is Morrels choice but he will have to limit his comments as he is not one of us and can be accussed of trolling with too many negative comments. I see Lobbe is doing the Ruck Duties. I am interested in how he is going and wonder if any of the young guys have benefited from more game time. How is Hammers going and Oshea.

Thanks guys.

The Lobster has been a revelation. Not neccessarily winning the rucks but holdig his own and showing some great second efforts and work around the ground. He will be excellent next year with an uninterupted preseason.

Harltett has come back to the Hartlett we expect. Playing much better footy in recent weeks (even despite his shoulder injury/instability which he will have surjery on in the next few weeks.

Oshea has been OK. Nothing terrible but nothing fantastic either. He is getting some good experience and will be better for the experience with a few more KG's on his frame and miles in his legs next year.

Hamish popped his shoulder and is going under the knife after the next match. We've protected him by playing him loose off half back.....and hasn't he run amok back there. He's been wonderful.

O'Shea has played more through the midfield and on the wing. Has been ok. He's Forrest Gump though.....racks up the K's.

And Morrell.....go support the Harlem Globetrotters.....right up your alley.
