How did we go to GF to this garbage in less than 3 years

Not hard
Senior players peaked that year.
Downhill since but persisted with too long. Tried to get another GF out of them instead of rebuilding, which was slightly understandable. Then poor decisions in over-persisting.
This we know.
Now we’re rebuilding. The club has said so. Has said we need three drafts.
We know this too.
Tonight is disappointing but should not be a huge surprise.
Old players on the way out. Young players need the games. And we’ll see if Nicks was a good choice.
Disappointing but not surprising

Well put - should pin this up to refer to for next few seasons.

We weren't ruthless at the end of '17.
I reckon we got into this rhythm of letting teams go hard at us, we weather it and then come back to over run them. Remember they brought in a big cut to the interchange cap that year and teams had to figure out how to pace their workrate over a whole game.

I think we did this well for the season but then in the grand final, Richmond went hard at us and we waited for them to tire out a bit before we hit back only that they kept going.

Lucky we signed Sloan on for 5 years....what was the point? ....ensuring he never gets a premiership medal ?
We sign senior guys on for too long (Jenkins, Walker, Mookay)
Brad Couch will be next
We ignore thier sub par performances and hold them completely unaccountable.
We hold back the kids and play them as a last resort.
Sack our coaches when we miss the finals.
Employ ex players who are unqualified.
And rubbish members who question the club.

So....this is what you get....and what you deserve.

Anyone who finacially supports this club is as much to blame as the club itself.
If we all walked away....the VFL would come running with draft conccessions as they want and need SA money ...a la Gold Coast.

As it turns out....we all cough up anyway...so they just take the cash and laugh at us.

On a more serious note, it's a multitude of things.

  • Campo turned our midfield into a bunch of one-way running, unaccountable softies.
  • Burton hiring CM who organised the camp clearly divided the playing group in 2018.
  • The rapid declining of senior players who excelled in 2017. Lynch, Laird, M. Crouch, you could even throw Tex into this mix who seems cooked, and no one has stepped up (or been selected) to replace them.
  • Hart's incompetent coaching of our defence and, then last year, our forward structures which didn't actually appear to have any structure at all.
  • Drafting. Ogilvie seems to be popular around here, but why? Since 2015, the only draftee worth anything has been Doedee. Milera has not come along at all, the 2016 crop is a complete bust (some very handy players were picked up after Gooch) and Fog needs to start offering more than a mark and nice set-shot. The 2018 crop needs a bit more time as only Jones has played but do they really scream elite to anyone? We had the upper hand on Port going into that draft yet they still ended up with Rozee while we sat and twiddled our thumbs. Which brings me to...
  • List management. Have only traded in rejects from other clubs and Gibbs which has been an utmost disaster.

Pyke unfairly pushed out, coached as well as anyone could with that list
Getting rid of Burton and Campo was a nice start but it was only that. The fish rots at the top and nothing will change until that is sorted.

Pyke was useless as a coach. He was gifted a top 4 team which failed when the heat was put on in the finals. A decent coach may have pinched a flag in 2016 or 2017. He was not liked by the players and had no long term vision for the team. Basically he was Neale Craig mark 2 and was one of the problems that needed to be removed. The major problem is that the idiots who hired him and who have completely ****ed the club up are still there.

Go home troll.

Is that the weakest crows side ever?
A very good question....it probably is.
Im guessing it will get worse before it gets better....as half the senior guys look cooked...the recycled players look average at best....and the draftees from the last few years could be busts.
Add player retention issues....and a rookie coach.
Bloody hell...its a looooong road back.

We did the Gibbs trade because we and the expert still consider the Crows as premiership contenders. It looked good in 2018 as Gibbs was very good early in the season when both M.Crouch and Sloane were injured and then the hamstring injuries occurred and we just missed out on the 8. Then in 2019, we knew there was issue with the playing group and coaches but we were still in finals contention so Pyke continue to play the seniors, this issue manifested end of season then Pyke and others were sacked after an external review, then a lot of seniors players were forced to retired or traded out and here we are without properly transitioning these senior players out. As for the 2018 draft, the GC picks were always our target for Luko or Rankine but they asked for too much, most also had Rozee around pick 8.
