It's ok here as long as I don't have to leave the house or there isn't a black out. We have ducted air con and you don't even realise how hot it is outside.
Meh. Port Adelaide yuppies.

He,he! You didn't realise we had yuppies did you DB? When I lived in the hills it was always about 5 degrees cooler than Adelaide, never even had an air con until the year we left and that was for resale purposes. We decided if we are going to live down here we might as well be comfortable. I was dreading the hotter weather down here but today was a breeze. (Pardon the pun) Don't worry, we will feel the heat in our first black out and then you can laugh at me. :p

It is making me long for friday when I start 3 weeks holidays & actually be able to enjoy the heat, instead of the bloody freezing 22 degrees my stupid boss has the air con set to.

I prefer the cold to the heat. If it's cold you can always put a jumper on, but there's nothing you can do when it's stinking hot.

Apparently it got into the low 30s in the western suburbs yesterday, although I was in an air conditioned office all day. But this week hasn't been too bad in Sydney, although they're forecasting some hot days around Friday & Saturday.

I don't like the heat that much. Up to 30 is okay but I just don't like it much hotter. It's not so bad if you are at the beach or by a pool I suppose. I prefer cooler weather as long as it's not pouring with rain.

Melbourne's weather for the past seven years has been hideous. For the first three of those years, January was unbearable, with 38-40 degree days followed by a ****-weak change from the south-west, with no cooling wind. Then we had four or five days of more heat.

Why did it take so long for government and Telstra to find this out? It's the 'D' word, as in drought.

I'm of the admittedly unsubstantiated belief, that anyone who lived north of Kilmore and west of West Melbourne needs their head read.

Idiot mate I have rang me from the newspaper he was sub-editing in the United Arab Emirates. He said, "Bernie, it's midnight and it's 98 degrees and it's 98% humidity."

I felt for him. When he came back to Australia, the only place he felt comfortable was in Hobart. About twelve months after he arrived there he rang me in the middle of summer and said, "Bernie, it's 28 degrees in Hobart. The only place left for me is the Falklands." I tend to agree.

Don't know of the veracity of the global-warming concept, but I sure feel hotter. Hideous.

I have serious doubts about people who chase the sun, with due deference to our West Australian and Queensland brothers and sisters, I think it displays a certain weakness of mind.

For these reasons, Paul Keating was correct when he called Asia, "... the place you fly over on the way to Europe."

Skilts, I have lived in Perth for over 10 years & Melbourne was always like that in January & February for as long as I can remember, going back to the 70's.

We used to put the TV on the front verandah at night, so we didn't have to sit in a hot house, I loved that about Melbourne summers, it was hot at night as well, unlike in Perth, where the temperature drops down drastically after the Freo Doctor comes in.

not me. i wish i lived in darwin.

as for melbournians, i'd imagine the january heat is a real shock to the system coming out of the frigid winters you guys get ;)

Well, nobody's whinging about Ballarat being too damn cold.

It got up to 39 today here, 32 is forecast for Wednesday, and an apex of 40 for the weekend, and temperatures in the mid-to-upper 30's for the remainder of the week. Egads....

No matter what, having lived in the northern hemisphere for most of my life, I just can't get used to weather in December that doesn't contain cooler temperatures, rain, or even a bit of snow or ice. However, it was nice to take a swim in the ocean in Geelong on Sunday, and I get to start and finish my Christmas shopping tomorrow in the comfort of an air-conditioned shopping mall tomorrow. :D

Stay cool, everyone...

Cheers,
William

Maybe I should have put you Melbournians dont know the meaning of hot.
Mildura is close to SA I guess so it gets our heat.
I will never forget a while back when some clown was trying to argue with me that Melbourne got just as hot weather as us in Adelaide ! Yeah right !

Gotta agree with Easty for a change. After four and a half years here in Melbourne, I've yet to experience a heat wave like Adelaide gets. 40 on Saturday? Bet it won't be on Sunday.
And therein lies the beauty of Melbourne weather - variety.

You weren't here in 96/97 were you Mac? Two - three weeks of 35+ degrees everyday and not a single drop of rain for even longer.
That was unusual admittedly and Melbourne summers are far more tolerable than Adelaide ones.

It's just making me tired :(

It was 37 here at midday yesterday, must have gotten into the low 40s as it got hotter as the day went on. But then, it's like that a lot in summer here. At least it's better than all the rain (even though we need it) and wind etc we had the last two weeks. you_idiot, that sounds like our weather (hardly surprising)...we'll spend most of the time in high 30s/low 40s.
