We're all hypocrites when it comes to individual purchases.

Nah mate, only those who complain about globalisation and lecture others on the folly of it.

I am a proud globalist. Like anything it has it's faults but being all sanctimonious about slave labour whilst wearing a T-shirt made in India just makes that person a hypocrite.

Even allowing for the the UK swap payback, we are still due an increasing number of Pfizers and Moderna arrives next week, so hopefully we can flatten the wait period and get us going again in October.

I'm thinking the 6 week gap between doses is what will delay us. Once we hit 70% first dose, by extension it is a minimum 6 weeks after that date before we hit 70% fully jabbed (Pfizer and AZ both now 6 weeks is my understanding but happy to be corrected). Hence it will be early-mid November at the earliest.

Why is Victoria so behind on rapid testing? Foley was asked about it today and he said that it’s because of vaccines?.. what does that even mean?
He just waffles.

Scommo said there is sufficient supply to have the whole of Oz double vaxed to 70% by mid October (FWIW!).

That must be on the presumption of the Pfizer / Moderna vaccines and we will presumably be in a position re readjust this delayed double vax.

At least I ****ing hope so!

Yeah mate, but how would that actually work for Victoria though? If the person that gets us to first dose 70% is vaccinated on 18 September (based on current estimates) then assuming 6 weeks between doses (both AZ and Pfizer) then logically that person isn't second dosed until a minimum of 6 weeks after 18 September. That takes us to early November.

Mathematically the only way we get to 70% fully vaxxed in Victoria by mid-October is if the gap between doses is reduced.

I know numerous GPs who are refusing to bring AZ appointments forward to those asking to shorten the gap. If it’s middle of November then I consider that still a win. Middle of October is no chance though you are right.

Had my first jab today at a vaccination centre and got my next appointment at a GP in four weeks.

You shouldn’t need to, and I doubt it will be material to hitting the target, but if you shop around you can get a second dose earlier than six weeks.

Well played mate.

Wife and I have been fully vaxxed for a while (got lucky due to wife's tenacity the day that our age group was given access) but hopefully people ask the question.

Practical solutions have already been put in place, people have far more awareness of social distancing, hygeine, face masks, a lot of jobs will probably stay as work from home. All warehouses I go to all have covid safe practices involved.

Ben Fordham spoke about some stats the other day on radio, whilst Australia has hit a sad landmark in 1000 deaths of covid, in the past 18 months Australia has had over 200,000 deaths to other causes, cancer, heart disease, heart attacks/stroke, suicide etc etc. That puts Covid into perspective. He also goes on to state that the young 30 year old lady who left behind 3 kids and media reported as covid death, was later found to be after a coroner reports to have died from pneumonia, also fun tod bit, he mentioned that Australia's policy on covid deaths is that anybody who died WITH covid is nationally listed as dying FROM covid which is the policy regarding covid reporting.

You can live in fear, wear a 100 masks if it makes you feel safer, have a Vax shot every 3 months to keep you topped up, me, I just want to go back to as normal life as I possibly can.

Then there's this, which was barely reported anywhere. I wonder why

I had my first injection two weeks ago was told by the chemist to wait 8 to 12 weeks (12 weeks being better)before getting my second.Three days later the gov tells me six weeks who do you believe Andrew’s and his cronies or the chemist

Never trust a man who wears glasses and can't recall things!

Well obviously the chemist as I’m happy to wait for my original 2nd dose date. Apparently bringing it forward reduces the efficacy.

That thought did cross my mind.

I think I might need to shave my head!

already shaved mine!

dont hold your breathe on pfizer

firstly we need to back up all the ramp up pfizer doses NSW got with their second jab.

until that has washed through, i cant see there being any scope to bring the 6 week gap back to three

just my pessimism, i suspect we will be sucking fumes until November

its ayiing and a yang issue

12 weeks gives maximum benefit from the vax (80% effectiveness). 6 weeks means you get a bump up (30% effectiveness first jab to sub 60% for the second).

cost is effectiveness, and you'll need a booster sooner.

we're all copping boosters though, its just when

knife any update on Victoria uploading data to Nextstrain?
Nothing new, It's hard to understand why but it's approaching 2 months since the last update from Victoria. I don't know why they have stopped.

Globally Delta is making up 90% of sampled cases, and most of the variants that have got headlines recently (Mu, Gamma, Lambda) are stagnant or declining in frequency. Not just globally, but when viewed in region specific ways they seem to be declining.

This is very poor and makes me think they are hiding something.

Does anyone who follows the press conferences know if any journo is asking about this?

Thanks for your work knife

What's to hide? Our HQ is pretty much a non entity.

Just my guess, it's some public servant who low balls the prioritisation of data going to an open source mob.

If in doubt, "I can't be ****ed" often ends up being the answer

This is exactly what they did last year when trying to cover up the hotel quarantine leaks. They have form so forgive me if I’m suspicious.

I’d suspect what they are hiding is that they lifted LD5 to quickly and this outbreak is a result of that.

Every other state is uploading the dat, whatever the reason Victorian isn’t it is pathetic.

given LD5 and LD6 are both from the same outbreak in NSW (assuming they are different), wont they be genetically similar anyway?

my money is on lazy, there is no benefit for the PS to do this as it doesnt do anything for their team or personal performance outcomes

Given the NSW health officials said to Gladys she should get to 85% double vaxed before taking these steps I’d expect Dan will get similar advice but follow it. I can’t see much opening up here before December.
I consider it almost certain that the Vic government will be looking at 80% rather than 70%.

So your point is we should just reap the benefits of slave labour?
