Huddo on Fev

Fev being called "selfish" by Nathan "No Flags" Buckley....i've heard it all now!

Coming from a bloke that was so arrogant when he arrived at Collingwood in 1994 that his teammates actually had a players meeting (without him) to discuss his arrogant attitude and even threatened the coaches to do something about it or they would not play with him.

Huddo makes a very good point about the aboriginal players. They hug and joke around after every game like they are long lost friends. I don't have a problem with it per se, but don't criticise Fev when players from every club do it week in week out.

I am totally shocked with the way some posters are sinking the boot into Fev. Questioning his commitment to the club & some even suggesting he plays for himself.

How many games has Fev played carrying injuries? Who could forget the game against the Kangaroos at TD in 2005(?), when he injured his knee flying for a mark in the goal square & was taken from the ground with what looked like a serious knee injury, only to return just after half time, on one leg, & almost single handed got us back into the game?

How about the game at Carrara last season when he played the last quarter on one leg? Even while restricted he was still beating Firrito on the lead. How many operations did he have at the end of last season? Was it 5 or 6? He played with injury until his body could carry him no more. Sort of like what Judd did at the Eagles.

So Fev was friendly with some of the Saints players after the game & did not put on the fake sullen look that some players do after the game. That is just part of Fev's personality. The same personality that has been a part of the Carlton Football Club for almost 10 seasons, 6 of which have been ordinary enough to potentially drive a star player to a club that is a chance of immediate success. Yet Fev has stuck with the club. He didn't do a bolt like Beaumont, Allan, Murphy or 'sooky' McKernan.

The next time Fev kicks us to a win (could be as early as this week), those who are proposing he be traded should not bask in the glory of that win, because if they had their way he won't be winning us games for much longer.

Has HBF been smoking the wacky tabaccy again ?
If we traded Fev, we wouldn't win a damn game ... How many goals do you think Bradwina Fisher could kick all by himself in the foward line with no decent KPP foward there ??? Gee whiz, btw he is great mates with a lot of the St.Kilda players, IE Gehrig and Milne etc ...

He revelled in the fact that he strode out.......on his own.....to the roar of the crowd.
Hardly evidence of the "team player"..........and not evidence of the opposite either.

I disagree MS.

I have seen Fev pissed off and gutted during and after games. He showed more emotion when the ump doesn't pay him a free.......or when Bentick kicks it over his head than he did at the end of the game. I think it is disrespectful to his teamates, his club and his members/supporters without whom he would be nothing...........and many agree. Even Riewoldt thought it was unusual.

I agree that "This is Fev" and we need to accept that, but by the same token, if he wants to be the centre of attention, he must accept, as you and everyone else must, that his actions will be scrutinised.

I am in the "not fussed if we trade him or not" camp, despite my thread after the "Sydney offer" incident, and nothing has changed.

I have had issues with Fev for a number of years, and my hope was that his behaviour was born out of frustration at not being in a winning side.

I was wrong and its just the way he is and it won't change. This much is evident as he has changed little from last year to this, and yet we are on the verge of finals and have a team that should fill us all with hope.

If Fev does kick a bag and we win this week, my stance won't change. I will support him if he does the right things in the game, but that doesn't change what he does at other times, and deep down, I think we may be better off trading him, much like the Saints were with Plugger (though we don;t have Lowe, Hall and Heatley in the wings).

I'm not convinvce 100% because I still hold out some hope that he can learn to share his space, and bring other forwards into the game, but all his actions suggest Fev thinks about Fev only, and has little awareness of what is going on around him, both on and off the field.

I just don't think anyone can come up with a suitable trade, so we'll have to make do.......and I'll love him.........but at times I'll continue to curse him as well.

It most certainly does not BG.
Yes players shake hands after the game, but they do not, and I repeat do not, walk off with players with their arms around them with a grin on their faces.

What Fevola did was a disgrace, and if it was up to me, i'd trade his arse quicker than you could say Go Blues at years end.
It's not up to you so get over yourself.:p

Can we trade you to another club!:p

Fev, is a true Blue, and make no mistakes about it. Love the way he get's excited when we kick a goal, and the way he gives it to the opposition supporter's, the same way I do when Im at the footy.

Just because this is his lively hood, and probably his last contract, its betweem The Club, and his manager and lets not forget his wife.:thumbsu:

Can I just make a reference to the comment from bluebear about Fev learning to share his space and bringing others into the game.

It's going to be a reference to a Liverpool player when he goes and plays for the Spanish national team.

Fernando Torres is Liverpool's star forward, all the play is directed to him via Steven Gerrard, when Torres is playing for Spain, he is not the star the forward, the coach prefers to use David Villa, yet Torres' club form meant he had to be picked to play in the Euro 2008 Championships.

The system was different to what he played at Liverpool, with all the play going to Villa, Torres played more as a decoy, timing his runs off the shoulder of the defender to make space for Villa to work with (as Torres knows his movement will always draw a defender or two away from the play).

If Fevola learnt how to lead into the space, he will always attract the loose man to drop into the space where he will lead, and his direct opponent will be with him, therefore, a player like Edwards, Fisher, Waite, Carlos, Kreuzer, Cloke, Wiggins or anyone else who is playing in the forward line should have more space to lead into and more importantly, an even one-on-one contest.

Torres never complains when playing for Spain, he loves playing for his country and when David Villa got injured in the semi-final, the nation pinned their hopes on Torres and he came up with the winning goal in the final.

If Fevola gets on the lead in a one-on-one, he very rarely loses, he'll still kick his 2 or 3 even 4 goals per game but he could make us such a better side by opening up the space.

whoah tough guy.
I saw the footage after days of talk on this matter and laughed aloud.
Who gives a S@#t what he did. God, everyone's sounding
like grandmas at the local bingo game.
When he does something really bad.... e.g. scott thompson
getting a 'suspended JAIL sentence' for almost killing his mate
then leaving the scene of an accident.....then come back to me.

let us ponder this thought for a moment. fevs still hasnt signed. stkilda need a strong forward as there current forwards are ageing and will prolly retire at the end of the season namely gehrig. fevs is great mates with some saint players. could it be fevs is gonna be a saint come 2009 season.

Don't get me wrong I'm a Fev fan, but i do get frustrated with him as i do with all our players at different times.
In my opinion he should be hurting like hell when we lose, not laughing with the opposition. (it would make some of our past great players shutter)..I know the game has changed...etc.

If this is his charachter, i'm sorry but that ain't good enough, I don't want our young kids getting this idea off a guy they supoosedly all look up to showing them it's ok to be friends on the field because it's not ok.

This is professional sport it's not park cricket, if your really fairdinkum about the team, the club and your attitude to a game there is no way in hell you could be happy straight after a loss it would have to take at least a couple of hours for the pain to subside, after that sure ring your friends have a chat i don't care but last Friday night against the Saints showed his heart was not in the game and he was more interested in his mates and how they were.

Do I think we should trade him, all i say whats best for the CFC?
There's supposedly some very good forward talent in the draft this year, right now if we can come up with a trade we will probably get quite a bit for him, in another 2 years his stocks will be greatly diminshed from a trade point of view, so whats better a young gun forward who we could possibly get 8-10 years of his best football plus either another player or high draft pic or we can keep Fev and get 2-3 years of Fev's best football.

Don't tell me he will play until he's 35 because it won't happen he get's found out now when the ball hits the ground in two years that will be even worse they will run off him all day he has 3 years off his best football at max.

I lean towards the trade.

In saying all that i have faith in Icke and Swann to do the right thing i want the club calling the shots on negotiations not the players holding us to ransom (been there done that and it don't work).

If we sign Fev i will support and cheer like mad as i do for all players who wear the navy blue, if we trade him i will support and cheer the two young kids we get hopefully for the next 10 years!

i agree with your point , i personally would like to trade fev, fish, carrazzo, rusell, walker as well......................... why
we have a magnificent midfield but average defence & crap foward line apart from fev.
we need as many draft picks as we can get this year and pick the eyes out of this years draft.
there apears to be really good tall talent with the names that are mentioned.
i think with tradeing some or all the players i mentioned above we could end up with 2 1st round picks /3-4 2nd round picks /3-4 3rd round picks
imagine
1st round hurley & mckernan
2nd round trengove & vickory (spelling)/yarran
3rd round swift/blease/banner/
or whatever talent that our recruiters deem fit to wear the navy blue
i would like the look of our future team a lot better than what it would be
with the likes of carrazzo,walker,fev,fish.
