Hypothetical Draft Pick Trade Thread

We're not trading pick 6, unless we somehow manage to go into the top five - which isn't going to happen.
We're in a rebuild and the whole point is adding talent every year, not deferring for a year so we can have two next year. That's ridiculous. All that does is delay the progression.
In 2024 Ward will be entering his third year and this year's first pick will be entering his second. And next year we pick up another first.

With the rumour that the Saints are desperate to move up to draft Tsatas I'd be looking at these potential trades:

Hawks trade - pick 6 and a F2 (WBD's)
Saints trade - pick 9 and a F1

Likely that the F2 would be a pick in the range of 26 to 30, and it's likely that the Saints F1 would be a pick from 8 to 12.

6 + 26 to 30
For
9 + 8 to 12

Hawks take two top ten picks to the draft next season and our own second rounder, which is likely another top 25 pick.

Or simply:

Hawks trade - 6
Saints trade - 9 + F2 (likely 26 to 30 range)

Meaning we'd have a top ten pick next year, plus three picks in the 20 to 30 range.
Prefer the 1st but it is a meh trade. St's have 9, 28, 32, 47, 73, 81

If we are giving our F2 back then will need their 32 at bare minimum back.

A 3 pick slide whilst still having access to one of the top players we had been linked with, plus another top 10 pick, for a pick that's likely going to be 25 at the very best is an excellent deal.

If there was a chance that all of Tsatas, Humphrey, Clark, Mackenzie and Phillipou were off the board then fair enough. But we'd still be getting one of them.

I’m intrigued as to how we view the quality of this years draft crop vs next years. If it is viewed as markedly better, and given the age and development profile we already have, deferring top-end talent in the door one year may not set us back much at all. We are already deeply exposed to a development cycle, creating more options and flexibility next year may actually set us up better in the years ahead. We will know a whole lot more about our list in a years time, and similarly what we will need going forwards. A strong draft hand would certainly help, can you imagine having gws draft hand each year, how do we get there?
The alternative strategy is to continuously trade f1&2’s into the current year. You may not ‘lose’ if you maintain the strategy and you unlock the value a year ahead.

I’m inclined to agree but it has some risk. If tsatas gets to us I expect the picks prior have philippou to dons and Humphrey to suns. Saints take tsatas cats take Clark. Leaves ginbey and Mackenzie and eagles have been linked to both. If we rate both and rate them equally then your deal is fine. Also that’s worst case scenario only one pick of any other player means the deal works too so it’s low risk

Have most people on her accepted that very little is likely to happen regarding pick swaps ? Or people still throwing out wild ideas left right and center ?
Loads will happen re pick swaps. Just can’t until draft starts. Once it starts expect lions to swap either prior to pick 1 or between 1-2 and it surely has to be with us. Unless dons trade 4 or there’s a godfather offer then expecting picks1-18 get selected as ordered, but where Davey michalaney rowston get bid on will lead to further swaps. Then there is the usual circus for pick 19 and in a shallow draft clubs will look to start trading out picks from then30s onward into 2023. How’s that?

If only there was a thread for throwing out wild ideas?

... oh wait. It's this one.

I know WCE have not been afraid to draft Victorian talents in the past, but if Ginbey is available there's no way they aren't taking him. That would leave Mackenzie for us.

With the renewed interest from WC in Ginbey and with we showing interest as well, here is hoping WC offer to trade up to 6

Would just prefer 8+20+26 for 6+24+63

or even a straight 8+26 for 6 would work as well

63 should be around 57 by the time pick 7 is called and we are likely to have trade all the other later picks for 35 & 36
Could even swap 36 for their 26 if they are willing to give the one of the F2 or F3 they have from Port

How about we keep pick 6 and draft the best available talent at that pick?
Surprised Meme GIF

indeed if the person you want drafted at 6 is not gonna be available at 8, then keep 6. But if they are and you can get pick 26 which could end up being Hustwaite/Burgiel/Clarke.
