If playerA and playerB are in a marking contest and playerB uses his hands to push playerB by the shoulders/side out from under the ball (playerB wins the push and shove ) and takes the mark. Should the mark be paid or does playerA get a free kick?

A couple of things

If in pushing player A, player B pushes or touches on the top of the shoulder then it should be a free to player A.
If he pushes him in the side of the shoulder then it's ok as long at the ball is within about 5 metres (give or take).

Any player can push another out of the contest, any contest in fact, as long as the ball is in the vicinity as long as the player pushing has his eyes on the ball and he doesn't push in the back or too high

It could be my as Hawthorn goggles, but last week if Nick Riewoldt was PlayerA or PlayerB he was paid the mark or Free. When Buddy is PlayerA or PlayerB he had the mark or free paid against him. WTF?

It depends:

If Player A is N.Riewoldt, it is a free kick to Player A.

If Player A is L.Franklin, it is a free kick to Player B.

Or

If player A is a Hawthorn player, player B is paid a mark

If player B is a Hawthorn player, player A is paid a free kick.

In fact if player A and player B are Hawthorn the oppostion will still be paid a free kick. With Player A or B coming under heavy scrutiny from the match review panel.:D

Hope this helps.

Sometimes you'll hear the umpire say "two actions" and pay a free. Other times it's ok.

I'm not aware of any rule wording that refers to "two actions" being illegal - just another random interpretation by umpires.

The "two actions" was used a lot more when you were allowed to hold your ground by placing your hands in your opponents back. If you held him and then reached for the mark it wad one action. If it wad more like a forward push and then a reach for the mark they'd say "two actions".

According to the rules, no. These days it's pretty much up the umpire and who the players are.
