Ian Perrie Played His Last Game For The AFC???

What happened at the start of the year once he got his kicking straight?

Bad patch of form doesnt usually mean moving on. I think he should hang around.

**** & Marvin, you are spot on.

Not this season mate.

His knee injury was compared to that of a car crash victim. A lot of damage. He needed to have an operation to repair the bone damage, once that healed properly, he then had to have a full knee reco.

He had his reconstruction done sometime in february so he won't be playing until next year, hopefully in the PS cup.
He would be a big help to you guys next year if he comes up it would be a real shame if dosnt. That was one of the worst things i have seen on the football feild:eek:.Good luck at geting him fit again

It's hard to make a call on one player in isolation. Perrie's fate may well be determined by what happens with Meesen, McGregor, Jericho, Gill.....and whether we can lure an established forward here.

The dynamics of the squad might become complex....but

Welsh and Gill are definate keepers IMO.

With Sellar on the horizon and Trent virtually a new recruit.....is there room for all 3 of Gill, McGregor, and Perrie on the list ??

The development of Tippett, Maric, Meesen, Griffin and whether they are all considered ruckmen will be a factor. (I must say I was more impressed with Messen's ground coverage and closing speed than his ruckwork the other night so maybe a fwd role for him)

Add to this the progress of Stevens and his ability to cover fwd and back........McGregor and Perrie might feel the pinch.....or at very least be considered depth players if they are retained in 2008.

With Biglands back for 1 more year with Huddo, Maric, Meesen, and Griffin....I think one will either go or be developed as a forward.

That leaves Trent,Tippett, Sellar, Bock/Stevens, Ken and Pez.......might be a couple too many.

Gill is a ****ing champ. As for Ian, well....he's never been that quick, just average for a KPP and I think we have other options to look at next year in Sellar and Tippett.

Gill is no where near being a champion! You wouldn't even call him a regular yet! Whilst he is showing some promise, Perrie has played better games (& worse for that matter too).

As MD mentioned, much will depend on the overall squad & trades may come into play. I doubt there will be room for Gill, Perrie & McGregor though.

I guess it depends on if the match committee dropped Sarge due to his insipid performance against the Cats or if they dropped Sarge because it was his last chance and they don't see him having a future at AFC next year.

I can't believe you're even bothering to argue that. Clearly I used the term lightly, as in he's one of my fav players atm. If he continues to improve from here I can see him becoming a regular and leap frog Perrie in the pecking order.

GIIIILLLLLL!!!!!!! Hmm...that blimp that flew over AAMI on Sunday, whenever Gill kicks a goal the blimp should have him show up on the screen striking a dramatic pose. Gunnage. :D :thumbsu:

Yep.. we should have a testimonal for him next year :)

If Perrie is our main/key forward next year the AFC have taken a major backwards step:thumbsdown:

Yep, totally agree. I love Perrie, he comes across as the kind of bloke you want as a mate, but he is so frustrating to watch and we need to move on and invest in the future.

I think MD got it right that it may come down to list management. I like IP and will not be too concerned if he is retained in 2008.

Saying that and noting MDs point it feels like a similar situation to Matthew Clarke... whether or not the player wants to go on it could be better to let them go and let a youngster develop while playing at the highest level ie Griffin

No problems either way as long as we have enough KPP depth to cover the loss of an experienced player.

I had no probs with the delisting of Clarke as we had plenty of depth (it seemed) in the ruck area and picked up 2 talls in the draft anyway. We then saw that you can't have enough depth as most of them went down with injury - Maric, Meesen, Biglands (we knew about that one prior to the draft), Sellar, Tippet which left us with two fit players for the first half of the year.

As long as the list management is covered I am happy to retain Sarge for next year.

We need to make room for midfielders and I suspect at least one of Perrie or McGregor to make way ......the latter probably by way of a trade.

Having said that I agree with Stiffy that Perrie will have to decide if his body can go on and whether he still has the motivation.

If he does I'll bet the more mobile Perrie will get preference over the very imobile McGregor......particularly as Gill is suspect.

Not even worth think about WW.

McGregor every day of the week and twice on Sundays. He can take a contested mark, is a far better shot on goal and is younger.

Did McGregor sell you one of John Cahill's cars or something?? :)

Agree macca, I honestly think Perrie's days are over, great bloke but clearly has been overtaken.

I think only one of Gill, McGregor or Perrie can remain. Perrie would lead the list at the moment as far as delistings in my opinion.

As for Hentschel, I think next year we should try and protect him a bit. I think it will take him most of next season to really find some form and fitness. I would be counting on him in 2009 to be 100% firing.

I would be surprised to see Ian Perrie on the list next year.

We only have enough room on the list for one of Gill, Perrie or McGregor.

I expect Ian Perrie will not be offered a new contract and retire, Ken McGregor may ask for a trade so he can get more opportunities in a new environment and Nick Gill to survive and battle it out for a spot in the forward line next year.

You guys are way off the mark.

Sometimes I think people forget that you need more than 22 players and a few untried youngsters to run a successful football club.

There is a thing called depth and it is one of the most crucial requirements to success.

Ian Perrie and Ken McGregor were first choice players for most of the year and have been for several seasons. Only occassionally do they get dropped. That does not mean that we no longer need them. They are important to our team and unless either of them wants out they will both rightly be there next season, along with Gill.

Some of you guys are talking about Hentschel, who is yet to return from a devastating injury, Kurt Tippett who has yet to play a game, with little experience behind him as it is, and James Sellar, who also hasn't played a game and is clearly not up to it yet.

And even Nick Gill who has looked quite good has four games of experience and a history of injury.

And these are the guys you want to rely on week in week out for next season and beyond? It doesn't work like that.

hi folks, one thing which always manages to amaze wherever you talk to crows supporters is a distinct lack of appreciation for the likes of sarge and the work he does for the team. No different here!

All good points ****, but we generally turn over about 4 players - which 4 would you drop off the senior list? I am thinking probably Perrie (as much as I admire the man) is probably going to be one of them. I doubt than Kenny Mc will.

I'm not really sure, I haven't put enough thought into it to produce a definitive list. But off the top of my head I can think of four or five players that I believe are more expendable. They are all midfielders or flankers. And that's not including Ricciuto's retirement or the possible trade of Meesen.
