dont want to overload expectation on him, it will hurt his development. his second half of the year was dreadful and that could be because of him not being motivated to stay at the giants. its not a good sign in a person.
So what. iIs footy. Not psychology. They need to take their chances. They dont have any time to waste.

He will never get a chance as good as this year's again, and he blew it.

Can't believe after all the advantages they gave themselves, tonight was all they could achieve. The brand of football doesn't work anymore, and I say that as a bored Melbourne supporter enduring Paul Roos' outdated gameplan at the Dees.

There's a clear throughline in the successful teams over the last few years, and the ultra-defensive gameplan it ain't.

I actually reckon '13 was the one that they really blew.

His game plan mostly hides how terrible the bottom handful of players are, an exact carbon copy of St Kilda. High end top talent and horrible in the lower rungs. His game plan compensates for this and stifles a lot of flair or his more gifted players.

Your head won't explode if you have a Stevie J type player Ross. They win you big games if you trust them.

To be honest he did recruit a few young blokes early on when he arrived and gave them a go. But now he's hardly played a new recruit and given them an extended run. They probably would have been a more attacking side if they gave Blakely, Weller and Crozier more game time. Those three couldn't be any worse than Deboer, Suban and Pearce.
What about Ballard? He looks good.

Why does Ross Lyon always have a shit list then? At some point the buck stops with him.
He had a great list with us, unfortunately we came up against one of the great teams in 09 and we kicked ourselves out of it. Collingwood were the better team in 2010, only some fantastic moves by him got us into a position to win it and if not for a terrible bounce we would have.

Surely it is now evident that the game plan Ross likes is not good enough to win flags.
I wouldn't say that. Could have won 2 with that game plan but just were unlucky on the day. If you are good enough to make a grand final you can win it. Not to mention he has been beaten by 2 super teams, one who won 3 flags and one who will be going for the same next week.

Lyon refusing to brook any discussion on his game plan. Dude, you cant win finals if you cant score over 70. Its not 2005.

He just admitted you need to score 88-90 to beat Hawthorn.

Dude - your side cannot score 88-90.

The game plan didn't cost them the game tonight-Freo's lack of a forward line did. If it wasn't for Ross' game plan Freo would have lost by more.
People say Freo don't score enough (which is true) but it comes back to their forward line.

Wat?? Look at the bottom 6 players tonight, almost any other coach this team is battling for 7-10th. Ross is a great coach but doesn't have the cattle. His game plan tonight was pretty good, he can't plan for horrible skill errors, easy missed set shots and dropped marks inside defensive 50.

He also couldn't plan for Stevic

They won't find the cattle finishing top three.

Bet Freo fans are glad you're not CEO then...

But in all seriousness Ross Lyon is easily one of the better coaches in the league, and I think it's a bit rough to say his game plan doesn't stand up when it counts. I mean, when has he ever been favourite on GF day? Only lost to Geelong by a goal (excluding Rooke's kick after the siren) and drew against the Pies when nobody thought he had a chance. 2013 he came up against one of the best teams we've seen and it could be argued that their inaccuracy was what really beat them that day. Done really well to turn Freo into a genuine contender over the past few years IMO, and people tend to forget how hard premierships are to win.

can't see Fremantle making top 4 next year, hard to see when they will actually win a premiership

They will just because they should win all their home games.

His press conference tonight.it sounds like the club may be Going to trade in players.

People say Freo don't score enough (which is true) but it comes back to their forward line.

It comes down to their midfield and their defenders not being able to use the ball as much as anything.

They look a million bucks with fast ball movement coming out of the back half and run in waves but it happens rarely against good defensive setups.

Without Fyfe dominating at stoppages and causing overlap they struggle to kick goals with their very negative brand.

With Ross they lose by less but they'll always lose.

Its the same thing. He has four years to do something about his fwd line and has done nothing about it.

In 2014 the LOWEST winning margin in nine finals was 93. Average winning score was 110.

They scored 200 more pts and conceded less pts last year, but won one less game.
I think this year they made the most of hiccups by other top sides, and managed to win all their close ones (won 7 games by <15 pts). So they were at least no better this year than last and a 4th or 5th finish probably would have been more realistic of their ability.
Agree with some comments about the cattle, but his gamestyle surely should be tweaked to allow for more scoring, I wonder if he concedes this now after all these finals losses.
