I don't.

We need everything to go right to get there, and even then, anything can only happen if we are a Victorian side (as you can potentially avoid travelling). An interstate side needs two home finals to get to the grand final.

It would simply be a waste of time when we should be taking every step to set up for next season and beyond. This year is still cooked.

Amen

Who wants to make the finals?

Abso-forking-lootley.

Squiggle predictor says we need 13 wins. Hopefully % won’t come into it.

We won’t win next week, but we can win against Geelong, Port, Brisbane, North and Carlton. Melbourne will be tough but it’s at home and they are a confidence team. It’s too early to call that one. GWS still look beatable. 6 wins from here is enough to make the 8. So basically, after the loss next week we can still drop one more game and make the 8.

Look at the form difference of Sauce, Crouch and Tex, from this week to last. That’s what every one of our good players is capable. Then, add to that McGovern and Smith to our finals team, along with Lynch and all of a sudden this team is capable of beating anyone, even at the G.

We are going to get better and better every week. We just need 1 win from the next 2 and we are back in business.

Anybody thinking we should tank can just **** off and support another team, you know who you are there's a few on this thread, we probably won't make it but never stop trying. We will give it a bloody big tilt next year, guaranteed, but premierships are never won in loser cultures. And if we do make it, look out.

If we win the next two its back on. Lose both and its off.
Lynch, Knight, McGovern, Smith, Betts and a good Rat in for Mackay, Poholke, Cheney, Galluci, Fogarty and Kelly.. its a top 8 side on paper.

Brown Hartigan Doedee
Laird Talia Smith
Seedsman Gibbs Milera
Jacobs M.Crouch Sloane
Lynch Walker Hampton
Betts Jenkins McGovern
Knight Atkins Douglas Greenwood

Yeh, but more importantly, last year showed that what you see Friday will mean nothing on GF day. You can't have it both ways.
Grand Final isn't like any other game of the year. What happened last year doesn't mean anything.

Big IF in regards to making the final 8 considering the tough draw. If they do make the 8, they'd have to put up some four quarter performances and match it with the best, because they haven't played a good game since round 5 against Sydney. Players have been performing below their best, e.g. Lynch and Betts were playing terribly before their injuries. Kelly has gone backwards this year. Cheney is in the team for goodness sake. We're also playing a lot of new players in Doedee, Fogarty, Gallucci, Poholke, Murphy, CEY and now Hampton. Vastly different team and form from last year.

The earliest I first allow myself to contemplate this question will be in exactly six days time.
Why 6? You probably saw it in the first three quarters. Each line, forwards, backs and mids are disjointed and not cohesive. The desperate season on the line last quarter was great but is probably a blip on the blipdar.

We barely fell over the line against West coast minus their entire forward line at home.

Richmond at the G will put this all in perspective.

I'm still hopeful we can slide below western bulldogs and get picks 6 and 7 with Sloane compo

So many utter spud teams in the top 8 currently, would love to make it with a 3/4's or more fit list. If we can get some continuity up late in the year, a lot of our players will be pretty fresh compared to those in other teams. Yer most of the finals would be away, but most of the teams we'd play are bog ordinary. Collingwood is second lol.

Still a long way to go. We have lots of sore players and niggle injury players on top of the actual listed injured players atm.

Like someone else said, lets review after geelong game. Need to win one out of the next two, if we lose 2 out of next 2 its all over.

Last thing I'll say tho, it is a really even comp and if teams like us, GWS and Ess can keep knocking over the top 4 it might end up that a team with 12 wins makes it in this year*

*extremely improbable i know

Its a stupid thread, we have lost 4/5 and our run home is mission impossible considering the opponents, venues and our injury list. We barely could make the 8 let alone the top 4.

Making the 8 this year for us is just making up the numbers. Almost always a team that doesnt make the top 4, doesnt win the flag. One of the reasons the Dogs were able to win the flag in 2016 was because they had "home finals games" played in Victoria. They never traveled consecutive weeks in September.

If we make the 8, I think we’re a chance, because we would have made it by beating top 8 sides. It will mean we’re actually back to our best, which got us to the GF last year.

We need to, at a minimum win 6 of the final 8 games to make the 8.

At our best, with a fit team playing confident football, I still believe we’re comfortably a top 4 side. We have been ravaged by injury, shit off season and collective minds.

Personally I still think we’ll struggle to make finals though. We’ve now played 1 genuinely good quarter of footy in 2-3 months, can we maintain it?

Currently, Richmond at the G is the toughest ask in football, they could very quickly knock our confidence back to pre bye levels.

I get your point

Hopefully we are in a different trajectory now of upwards and regaining quality players

As much as some in here view making the 8 a waste of time , if our “ins” from now on means we win more games we may well look at 2018 as a season of 2 halves.

I go and be ****ed if I enjoy watching losses

Do I think we’ll do it. Hell no. At best our form is patchy and at worst our form is diabolical.

Do I want us to do it. **** yes. I dont give a toss about going low for the draft. Toumpas and Jack Trengove, Ben Kennedy, Aish. There have been highly touted SA picks before. Some of them turn to ass.

Winning culture is better than all the low draft picks. Just look at Carlton and Melbourne’s last decade. GWS look like they’ve ****ed their window.

Teams that are shit are usually shit for a while. Lets try not to get too shit.

Let’s do an Adelaide scrape in and screw ourselves for future years, because that’s worked so well for us in 20 years and so some supporters can be happy. If Sloane goes this could mean 2 quality picks we’ve downgraded, one which could see us miss out on Rankine.

I want to win 3 more games for the year, Melbourne, Port and Carlton. 2 of those losses will benefit our picks and beating Port will hurt their chances and shove it up them.

What’s our winning culture done for us? We aren’t talking about being crap for years, just cashing in this year.

Melbourne will be measured on how they perform over the next few years not when they were shit.

You are also being selective, Hawks and Richmond have won flags on the back of poor years.

We need more supporters like this.

You’ve got to laugh “premierships are never won on loser cultures”

Did he not watch the grand final last year?

Hawks GF history built on Hodge, Roughead, Franklin, Lewis, Burgoyne and Mitchell. Mitchell was a later pick and Burgoyne a trade from 2 first rounders.

Collingwoods flag built on tanking.

Bullshit clubs don’t win a flag from having crap years.

You're not curious about finishing 8th in good form with a full list?
