I'm proud of the Hawks today ...

Not sure why you're throwing darts my direction, but you know I am always up for some healthy rivalry. The reality is you guys brought your game today and won.

The Hawks did not play a good game today, were cruelled by the umpiring, and did not make the most of scoring opportunities.

All this against the reigning Grand Finalists, with a baby team, and still nearly got over the line.

I'm actually a pretty happy camper. I look forward to a destiny whilst your likely going to have won ONE cup to show for yours, which is very close to an end.

:p

The swans were crap today. Hawks should have buried us but after getting a couple of goals up decided to play negative crap football.

There is not a lot wrong with what you have said above, save and except that Hawthorn were flat today.

We lacked run, and maybe a young team was genuinely a bit tired.

But as for the flooding aspect, it is a real problem for us. When opposition teams go man on man and play the congested game, we struggle.

So as I said, good post.

Dont forget the fact your club learnt a hellova lot out of today...its a young list that got ground down by an experienced team...hawthorn will have that experience and when they do they will be pushing for success....a game like that is valuable...not even close to the intensity of finals footy but nonetheless it is what happens even if u get 4 goals up on one of the favorites in September....they fight back by changing the game anyway they can.

It is probably what your footy dept will call "the loss we needed to have" to be competitive later this yr.

Good hard game today.

If you stopped trotting out that tired line, i'd probably respect the majority of your thoughts. As for your dynasty, well, that's anyone's guess. We have a flag to show for ours, and another one is a possibility.

ANIS, I thought it ironic before when you were mentioning that I might have some tears dripping.

Ahh ..... that was Smash n Grab ...... your stupidity has been noted - nice try though :(

At least I don't have another annoying excretion that I'm guessing you have to deal on a regular basis ;)

My Hemorrhoids >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Floodthorn :thumbsu:

The Swans may have lost 5 games this season, but when they simply cannot afford to lose a match, they are the most difficult team to beat in the league.

I always knew the Hawks would find it tough today so I guess a 9 point loss wasn't a bad effort. I also expect the Swans to be in the top 4 at the end of round 22, and pushing for another flag.

I tipped swans also....as an eagles fan I know what the swans are like, they dont let go

Was at the game. I knew from the very second the Swans recieved 170 metres worth of ultra ultra soft 2 umpire goals that utterly changed the direction of the game that we'd be up against it. We were all over them before that.
Was so proud of them for fighting back hard right to the end, even after yet another soft umpire goal in the last quarter.....

BOTH teams flooded today. If you cant see that, then you must have watched a different game.

The Hawks flood most weeks, as do most teams in the comp. The Hawks play the same style of footy as west coast. We have a heap of numbers behind the ball, but when we have the ball we run in waves.

When it works, it looks great. Like the game against Essendon, we had numbers behind the ball, but moved the ball forward fast and in waves. So when it works its an exiciting game.

However there are games like today and Saints, when both teams use the same tactics, it looks awful. We still dont handle the flood well, we chip the ball around too much and not as attacking as usual. The best teams in the comp play the games on thier own terms, we are not their yet, but hopefully its not to fair away.

Whinging little girl.

Barry got tripped...Hall got held...Barry got held after the mark...u do the crime u pay for it champ.

Lets not mention the free kick goal your little number 7 got in the first...2m out directly in front...for probably the softest and cheapest "over the shoulder" call paid this year...he got TOUCHED on the shoulder when he misjudged the flight of the ball....soft as butter and likely wouldnt have been paid in the engine room.

U wanna try for the gift free kick excuses like a whinging girl then u will find plenty of ammo in every game...on both ends.

Fair call, but I am just as on it for other games too. The state of umpiring is alarming and whether it is my team or yours, I am sure none of us want to see it decide a Grand Final.

Hawks will learn a lot, good post :thumbsu:

Btw the Swans are relentless and disciplined and deserve credit too. My post probably lacked that, but in the end my underlying point is simialar to yo9urs.

A good lesson for my mob.

P.S. Faaark the umpires

You would not have won today without overwhelming umpire assistance. SIMPLE AS THAT. Girl.

Holy crap, after last week swans fans were called sooks all week for daring to even mention the umpiring by everyone, get home from the match today what do I find.

Perhaps rather than just blaming the umpires, which was pretty crap all day butr not in anyone’s favor, but perhaps Hawks can blame the fact they kicked 9 goals and Buddy kicked 6, they should be asking where the other avenue to their goals where today.

It's funny how badly Hawks fans are in denial about flooding. Everyone else can clearly see it except them.

I think that most of us agree, but have different perspectives. When I say it is not the Hawks flooding what I mean is, the gamestyle 'when crap' is not the Hawks fault.

The Hawks like to push their HFF's and wingers back so they can run in waves, like the Eagles do. When the game is left open by the opposition we will bury you. i.e Buddys Box.

When teams leave there wingers and defenders at home and create a wall across our centre and half forward line we choke.

So from our perspective we call it flooding by the opposition because your guys are 'effectively loose' in your defence. From your perspective you call us the 'flooders' because we are pushing our numbers out of the attacking corridor and HFF line so we can get the running game going.

In reality another poster summed it up perfectly, and actually taught me something here, so I admit I have been very wrong about this.

What I call flooding is when a team plays the same gameplan as us. The reason I call it flooding is that it chokes us up, because they can't run like us. The reality is that the're doing what we do, but not as good.

So as MC9 alluded to above, I was wrong. We all flood, and it is merely our interpretations of what flooding is (to suit our purposes) that makes us individually point the finger at the opposition.

We were robbed last weekend *waits to be tagged a whinger* but i was one of the few people who didn't even mention it (until now), because there's really nothing that can be done. The umpiring today was shocking, the Leo trip was there, his other 50 metre penalty probably wasn't, etc.

The Hawks have a lot to worry about after today. Their game plan today was based around the flood. And this year, since the Swans were flooded off the ground by the Weagles in R1, the Swans haven't dealt with flooding well. But today the Swans won against the flood. That lack of application suggests that the Hawks will only be making up the numbers in the finals when the intensity goes up a notch or two.

And thanks. After weeks of being frustrated watching the Swans not being able to cope with getting the ball effectively into their forward line when the flood is on, they found out today that they can beat it. The Hawks might be the making of our season.

I'm not using it as an excuse as I said a loss was the better result, but what if today was a GF?

I think we need to stop allowing umpires to influence the outcome of games, and get away with it.

Whether Hawthorn played well or not the umpires changed the momentum and influenced the outcome of this game... end of story

Mmmm lets be honest we lost due to when the blow torch was on there were far too many basic skill errors and the coaching box didnt pull the moves in the later half of the 2nd quarter and 3rd quarter that enabled us to stay in front.( Players went missing too)

Surley Hodge wasnt fit!!!

Great to see 48000 there and that hawk roar again!!!

Youre taking the pyss surely.

I agree with you... And really whether it's our mob today or yours last week, it doesn't make it right. Like I said on the Hawks board before it seems to be fashinable at the moment to not blame umpires. The reality is different though. These little worms are hiding behind us. You see there is 8 winners each week, and 8 losers. So this week you guys will beat us down for complaining and last week the Bombers did the same to you.

In all this the umpires egos are inflated even more, and they get away with it unscathed.

Gieshen is a transexual dwarf, who should be held accountable about the fact that under his regime, the umpiring has gone backwards. And by a fair margin also.

Geishen should be sacked immediately and replaced with someone more competitent in making the umpires inconsequential to the results on games.

No numbers, no mikes, no voice. Just STFU and pay only the obvious ones.

I've been waiting to bring this up. Bevan spoils the ball, 7 falls to his knees and flings his head back after what must have been the slightest of touches if any, and at the same time we've whining about obvious, legitimate 50 metre penalties.

it is difficult to say that an umpire wholey influences the game, unless it can be based on the last decision of the match, for example the richo decision, a couple of weeks ago, or the mcphee non out of bounds decision (funny how they were both for essendon isn't it?;)).

but i will say that they defintiely did influence the game.

in the 2nd quarter, we had a 3 goal break, and both teams were playing stop-start football, basically the equivalent to a stalemate. sydney did not look at all dangerous, and barely any inside 50's for the quarter, looking like they had no answer.

then the umpire intervened, almost as though he thought: 'Hang on a sec, the afl want sydney to make the finals, i better do something!'.

the central umpire, of who's name i do not know, then paid 3 50m penalty's, a chunk of free-kicks attached to them, that resulted in 2 goals (which in the context were worth gold). all of them were very contentious, and 50-50's of equlivalent merit were then passed by for most of the remainder of the match.

sydney took the lead, and from there on, were far more confident, and didn't even need to consider opening the game up to score. they just grinded the remainder of the game.

we were still in power of winning the game if good enough, but a few misses, and mistakes, and we weren't up to it. however, by the umpire intervening, we had to make the running, where as if he didn't sydney would have, making our job a lot easier.

with future experience, and turnover of players, we will have better ability and may overcome this type of adversity, but it would be good if we had the aura of essendon, who were able to get the better of the umpiring last week against sydney, away from home.

Only saw the first half of the match, but in the first quarter the umpires were biased toward Hawthorn (soft free kick to Hawthorn right in front was appalling), and in the second they were biased toward Sydney (at least one of those 50 metre penalties was deserved, one of them was soft and one of them I didn't see).

So on that basis, I'd say the Umpiring was shite (no consistency), but no team obviously benefited.
