This is turning into a 10 week hammy for Gallagher too? Must be OP for Bedendo, they haven’t even mentioned it in any of the reports just indefinite

Bit of a worry Belly threw in the word conservative when talking about Bailey Smith. By the sounds of it, he has NFI when Bailey will back.

They seem to have been very conservative with players dating all the back to the start of the year, I feel more so than usual. I guess the approach is that any tightness is taken seriously before an actual injury occurs rather than pushing through the risk. Have we had an actual soft tissue injury this year in an AFL match? All of them seem to be short term 'awareness' or 'tightness'.

Groin injuries seem to be the order of the day .. and they seem to be more than awareness and some protracted

They seem to use the term "tightness" a lot now these days, every club. In the past a hamstring was a hamstring, but now more often than not, it's s not a hamstring but just "tightness." I'm not sure whether to believe them or not.

In relation to our club specifically, I've taken them on face value with the 'tightness' use. Players don't return from a hamstring strain or any soft tissue strain within a week or two but it's happened with us numerous times this season. I just feel like there is a specific zero risk management directive (at least with certain players) that they will make them sit out for a week or two rather than play through tightness.

From my limited understanding of anatomy and sports medicine they all mean there are torn muscle fibres, so it just becomes a question of the extent.

Awareness, tightness, discomfort and similar expressions are subjective terms and euphemisms. I bet that’s not what the doctor has written on the medical report.

Don’t they simply grade them 1-3 (grade 1 tear etc)?

This is not really a criticism. I’m very happy for them to be intervening before it becomes a more serious injury.

Didn't Bailey Smith also have lower leg issues over the preseason, causing him to go on a modified program? Wonder if this is related.

ironically the surface at whitten looks immaculate at the moment, surely can't be too far away from being able to train there

How did Bruce, get an injury more often associated with car crash injuries in a football game? Port targeted our players because they can‘t win on skill, I hope the players are ready to dish up a smashing when they come to Marvel.

Agree. Port played the man all night. I lament our lack of physical aggression.

Since moving to Skinner’s Reserve the club has been really concerned with the playing surface, thus super conservative with managing players. That’s my understanding from someone actively involved in the club. Can’t get back to Whitten Oval soon enough

We'll be back there some time in June.

We were meant to be back next week but it got pushed back.

Libba & JJ both copped knocks late. Let’s hope both don’t show any delayed concussion symptoms.
JJs was to the shoulder so I'd suggest he'll be fine but will be a watch on Libba. He seemed to have his wits about him on the bench, and by wits I mean he was about to have a biff with the doctor.

Dunno about JJ being shoulder, he was clearly holding his head on the ground

But in all honesty, even if they both miss we should still shit it in
