I could be wrong but I think the ruling might have changed again for this year as the rookie list got reduced to 4 players but clubs could then choose to have 2 less players on their senior list and instead have extra rookies which is what the Pies did. I'm not sure if they have to nominate before R1, I always thought it was just before the half way point, but again that might not be right.

I'm quite sure we used one elevation on Williams and have one left.

In general though, 1 rookie can be nominated prior to round 1, 1 after round 11 and for any LTI issue(s).

Williams was upgraded via the draft (using one of our selections), we only have 38 players on the senior list, hence we can still upgrade 2 rookies prior to round 1.
Or we can go with 39 on senior list & 5 rookies, with another upgrade after round 11.
Hine was talking about this after the rookie draft.
The NAB Cup will determine what we do.
I stick by my original call......Hudson & best performing rookie during NAB Cup.
If Jolly was to pick up a minor injury, missing 3-4 weeks early in season, then we cannot upgrade Hudson until round 12 (if we don't upgrade him end March), leaving Witts to take on the number ruck....our season could be over before it starts.
Hudson must be upgraded, that's why we drafted him.

That's true to an extent but we wouldn't have recruited him on the rookie list if we only wanted him for his coaching. The club from the moment he was selected have said he'll be there as back up and relief while developing Witts and Grundy.

Mitch Hahn was taken as a rookie wasn't he? Pretty similar scenario all though hudson has greater ability. Hahn only played a handful of VFL games and was mainly a coach.

Hahn was a VFL listed player not a rookie.

Wasn't it announced when Hudson was recruited that he would be an upgraded rookie?
Yes it clearly was which makes you wonder why people are even discussing the possibility of him not being upgraded.

There is only one spot up for grabs.

Like Quicky said, we never recruited Hahn onto the rookie list, we recruited him as a VFL top up player because the club never planned on playing him in the seniors.

Hopefully it's not something that hampers his career, but I think it's pretty common of young talls to have back complaints when they're getting their body right for AFL?
I'd say you are right or people in general who have quick growth spurts coupled with high intensity activities- see witts. As another example one of my mates brothers who plays 1sts for his school is suffering stress fractures in the spine due to high intensity activities (football, trampolining) and his growth spurt, but he isn't as tall as Grundy(186ish cm). So I'd say it's pretty common but you'd take it on a case by case basis.
