Is a 25,000 capacity stadium enough?

Oh, I might have seen you there then, Lord Flasheart. :p

And yeah, not sure why they didn't make it a full 360 stadium. It was originally meant to have the same opening at the other end. I suppose we'll see how many seats they fill in the first few seasons, and see if it's worthy of an upgrade in a few seasons time. :/

A couple of more shots (from my phone )

I like the design of the facade. The upper tier of the stands looks quite big from close-up. Should create a great atmosphere.

You guys should be excited, looks like a great stadium....I'll be supporting you in 2011 as expansion brothers. :thumbsu:

Cheers RIAH :thumbsu: You've got some great kids already too. Curtly Hampton sounds like a beauty. I'll be following GWS with interest and cheering them as well in 2012. It gets a bit boring listening to the doomsayers trotting out the "not a real club" and "plastic franchise" lines again and again, which GWS will no doubt cop as we currently are. I've always loved the game more than the team and its expansion into NSW and QLD is vital to its future. I'm glad the powers that be at the AFL are smart enough to see this even if there are a lot of jealous and petty-minded supporters of other clubs who aren't. Haven't been as excited as this for the start of a footy season since the Bears came in, in 1987.

Stadium is really looking fantastic guys, can't wait to see a game played there. The in-laws have an apartment up there so if the Tigers ever play I'll make sure to come up for a game. Good luck next year.

PS. If you win your first game, I will officially adopt you as my second team.:D

Cheers. If you can smash Carlton in Round 1 and take out Judd in the process, you'll officially be my second team in 2011 :D

Ofcourse it is enough, what do you think ? That the Gold Coast need a 50,000 seat stadium ?? They will only get on average 15,000 people every home game for the first couple of years. OUr ground is about the same capacity, but we need it extended, 40,000 for Skillied Stadium would be great.

all clubs started from the same spot whether that be in 2010 or 1897 it annoys me when victorians harp on about GWS and GC its the same attitude as rugby idiots that do not want their game to extend beyond NSW and QLD...you will builD and create traditions within your club over time and i hope that for the competitions sake that the new clubs are well supported in their region and financially successful

That's what I reckon too.. It's probably going to take a few seasons for the Giants and Suns to get the respect and recognition of the competition, but we will..

I think it's a good starting size. A handful of games will get sold out but that creates a good atmosphere, and you don't want an empty looking stadium at any stage.

I would be surprised to see you crack 20k for more than 50% of the games. If the Gold Coast team in the A-League is anything to go by I'm not sure if GC residents are really the sport watching type. It is a great looking stadium though.

No, they aren't anything to go by.

We have more members than the Titans, better to work off of their ave crowds (around 19k)

It's not - Gold Coast United were averaging over 5000 people per game, with some crowds up above 7000 until Clive Palmer (their owner) decided to only open one stand in the stadium in an attempt to save money on a tax that they have to pay if they get over 5000 people to a game. However, that meant that there wasn't as many GA tickets, because the premium seats were still selling for a premium price, which ate into the 5000 tickets that were available.

People responded to the strategy by essentially boycotting the games. There was actually quite a good level of support before that though, at least by A-League standards.

Anyway, with the GCS, it's better to reach the point where you're selling out a 25k stadium pretty much every week, and then to be forced into expansion, rather than having a 40k stadium that you're never filling, because it makes it seem as though the team is struggling.

I reckon the current ground of 25,000 seats at carara is good enough... for now. Its all about promoting the sport up there correctly that will help them fill up the arena. Gold coast has around half a million people there and they already have a A-league team, Rugby team, Basketball team and are about to have An AFL team. they are not even a capital city.

Not any more they don't. Apparently the East Coast Aces were disbanded along with the Australian Rugby Championship (ARC) after its only season.

I was watching FSN yesterday and they had a story about this stadium and on the story they talked about the scoreboard being the only one of its kind in Australia and how it is the only one in the AFL directly behind the goals. I think it was Brown who in a interview said that it is going to take quite some getting used to (having a set shot with the scoreboard directly behind the goals) and that it would be a good idea to have imagines of hot women in tiny bikini's on the screen when the opposition player is lining up for a set shot :p

Oh yeah, only just realised that. I think it was the same with the old stadium though, or perhaps it was a little off center. You'd think they'd turn off the live shot when lining up for goal. If not, guys like Weller & Swallow might be put off their shot admiring themselves on the big screen. :p

Well it's not like the screen is going to be flashing and putting them off, the picture's probably just gonna be the video of him taking a shot...
Having said that, it looks bloody close to the field!
