Is Carltons 2012 Season Over?

Is Carlton's season over? No. Lose the next two games then they are gone which is more than likely. The Eagles game was an eight pointer hence the rushing of Carazzo back and the dummy spitting a la Judd and Ratts post game conference "we haven't lost hope" speech. You don't talk about hope like that unless your in a bad situation.

He was uncontracted and demanded a trade home. What do you suggest we do? Play hardball and see him walk into the PSD?

We got Laidler, a very handy player, as a result of that trade.

So you traded one of the top 5 rucks in the AFL for Laidler... lol. The better play was to make a statement and throw him in the draft. That trade is just another example of why Carlton needs to undergo some major changes off field - it's a real mess down there atm.

Never understood the premiership favouritism for Carlton...they had what looked like a strong midfield, weak forward line, weak backline and no depth. They were a top 4 team at best, but an injury or two away from being a lower top 8 team, which has been borne out this year. I still think they will make the 8 (seventh or eighth, looking at their draw), could even steal a win in the first week if at full strength, but are not a premiership threat and won't be with their current team.

If Carlton kept pick 3 instead of trading that pick for Judd they may not have gained Cotchin anyway. Would Judd have chosen the tigers if Carlton did not trade? If the tigers traded their first pick (2nd overall) to West Coast for Judd then Cotchin may have ended up at West Coast. In 2007 both the blues and tigers were keen on Kreuzer for their first pick. Carlton picked Kreuzer due to their priority pick; the tigers then had the next pick because they won the spoon that year and selected Cotchin. West Coast used pick 3 from Carlton to select Masten.

We seem to have got the thin end of the ice cream cone on that series of 3. Might come good. It's that attitude thing.

TLDR: Personally I think Carlton are cooked. A blame free culture has festered and they need new staff, a shakedown of the playing group and hopefully then a fanbase that will clue in to where responsibility lies and maybe then the club can have some success.

I am glad someone put this up as if i Put it up it would have been deleted. Carlton have lost it this year but can bounce back next year if they smart enough. Everyone can see we get out coached easy. It is very embarrassing as a Carlton man seeing our coach acting like a Cheerleader eating snake lollies. How soft is that and jumping up in the air like a cheerleader without the pom poms.

Some coaches have a psychological subtlety to know how to work the players' spirits individually and/or the group mind. Ratten just doesn't seem to have that. Crass. ( Roos did. I suspect Buckley does. The Good Scott possibly. I used to doubt Worsfold had it, now I'm not sure. A whole bunch of previously B+ players is doing good things.)

No, he left because he wasn't getting a game, and felt as though he was always going to be behind Kreuzer and Warnock/Hampson as far as the Carlton match committee was concerned. Home was just the option he chose.

Yep and that's exactly why Carlton's off field department is such a joke. Giving away a gun ruckman for free (Laidler lol) to what's turned out to be a premiership rival is just horrible business. Even the best run clubs make mistakes however at Carlton bungles like this aren't isolated - in recent seasons they have consistently made the wrong decisions in terms of recruiting, development and list management. They are definitely at the bottom of the AFL in these areas and won't achieve anything until they is a massive clean out.

It depends what people mean by "season over"?
Does this mean we cannot make finals and therefore not perform in September or does this mean we cannot win the premiership? For mine if we keep improving on the last 2 weeks efforts and make the finals, we will be a major player and scare some teams come september. I think however the run home will be too much come finals and the premiership is now out of scope. As I said a good finish with a couple of finals wins or good performances is still very much possible but it needs to start directly after bye!

You said "like most weeks"
Im not going to go find the post because you probably changed it. You know you said
Lol at this culture shit. Every club has had its downfalls, Why do you harp on about the past when we are talking about the present? Do you see me talking up the west "coke" eagles culture? No, you don't because im not pathetic.

The "most weeks" was a throwaway at the end. That said, a simple review of his pressers will show you that he has referred to injuries, umpiring and schedules as "reasons" on several occasions during this season.

He ran through all these again on Thursday night. Couple that with him being an emotional rabble during games - on full display again Thursday - and you'd question whether that's the sort of coach that gets the best out of a group....

The culture comment doesn't relate to the distant or even medium distant past but to right now, this group. There are question over their ability to win when it matters. They have lost a lot of close important matches. They seem to lack steel when it matters. They don't have that hard edge that winners have ... that winning culture.

dont know why you are lol'ing at laidler, he is a bloody good player and has been missed severly. Is a rock in our defense.

Jacobs wasnt always getting a game and decided he wanted to go home for better opportunities. These things happen. He is having a great season but i wouldnt call him a world beater yet. He may well turn out to be but im content in knowing we have Kruezer/Warnock and Laidler playing for us.

Ok thats all I wanted to hear. I knew he was putting up excuses this week, but it was very raw of you to say he did it most weeks. I do question his coaching ability, the whole footy world is, it isnt going un noticed.

Why dont we have that winning culture? Because we haven't had it for ages, so its hard for many to change their decision. It's because we were terrible for a long time, and when we lose now, they just refer to this 'culture' of losing that we can't shrug. It's all about the previous teams, because that how you get a winning culture. Which really isnt fair, but what ever...

Brendan Fevola's book claims players at Carlton switched off during games, while in a winning position to gain Kruezer..
Captain Obvious?

Yes, anyone would be kept awake at night by the nightmare that is the prospect of being tagged by Bryce Gibbs.
FFS what is wrong with you Carlton supporters? No one is scared of you and you are not a major player.
You are a laughing stock. We are all laughing at you. Your 'coach', your 'I'll be talking to the AFL and we will be playing at the MCG' president and your captain, who hasn't hit a target for years.
Where is the arrogance coming from? There are huge cultural issue at Carlton. Your players blaming umpires and your coach blaming the draw. FFF.
You don't have any depth and the development of a number of your players has stymied.
Carlton will be lucky to make finals and wont last more than one week.
Yes, your season is finished. Your window is shut, which is pretty funny as it was never really open.
Time to start playing for picks. That's the only thing that Carlton has been able to do well.

Too many things would need to go right from here on in and that's somewhat unlikely.
From what started off as a very promising year in February, deteriorated into quite a sad result for us, largely for injuries.
Having said that, Carlton aren't the only team to suffer a a bad spate of injuries but probably a team that couldn't six players of their best dozen to be M.I.A.
Anyway, that's just the way things have panned out. Roll on 2013

Ummmmmmmmm....... we beat you by ten goals, when injuries weren't such a concern for us.
Don't get too carried away with yourself in this strange season, just yet.

Remind me again why Collingwood supporters are taken so seriously - not!!!

Oh yeah coz Collingwood was at full strength in round 3 ey

We are half way and it's a bad position to be in considering their run home.

I only see 2 games they should win from here on, North in a month and GC in round 22, apart from that they have Hawthorn, Collingwood, Essendon, Richmond, Sydney then St Kilda in round 23 which is looking like a crucial game.
They're in a lot of trouble if they don't win 4 out of 6 of these and they have to beat North, GC, dogs and lions, pretty much need 8 - 2 from here on, 7 - 3 will be relying on percentage.
That's a massive ask, especially considering they have 6 top 8 teams to come.

Bad luck Blues, I guess you'll all be feeling a bit 'blue' after starting as flags favs ;)

Regardless of whether they can make the finals or not, Ratten is probably in trouble. They looked to have taken a step back this year (thus far anyway) while teams such as West Coast and Essendon and Adelaide who were around their levelish have all improved. Even if they finish 7th/8th, I imagine that most supporters and the board itself would consider it a bit of a dissapointing year.
