Tired old hack in Melb

There's been a few threads around here dedicated to the spin or interpretation that certain media sources place on news from the AFC. I've been thinking of a positive way that the AFC can communicate with their members and supporters.

I notice from the AFL website that 5 clubs - Collingwood, Freo, Hawthorn, Kangaroos and St Kilda - have their own (presumably weekly) free podcast.

I'm not sure if these podcasts are purpose generated or if there is a "Freo show" on a local radio station in the west and the podcast is just a file of that. In other words, I don't know how much it costs the clubs to put the podcasts together.

My question is - if the AFC put something together, how many would subscribe?

I know I would for one.

There would definitely be an interested marketing out there and 10’s of thousands of interested supporters willing to sign up for this service, pod casting is a booming market.

Within the next 6 months or at the begging of next season this will happen.

I can see the Adelaide Football Club packaging different interviews done on different radio stations during the week (Nova and 5 AA or SAFM or MMM) as well as any different club news like Bill Sanders Chairman speech.

BTW: did anyone else hear or see the Vodafone commercial advertising PATV? And Essendon do the same sort of thing with 3 (like the cricket and BB). Pod casting, broadband TV and mobile phone TV is a communication tool the AFC should be looking at.

I think its highly unlikely because those interviews are property of the respective radio stations. If AFC did that, I am sure they would be breaching some broadcasting laws.

I should have been clearer in what I meant.

5AA and Nova are owned by the dmg Radio network just as SAFM and MMM are owned by the Austereo network.

What the AFC could do is come to a terms of agreement with say the DMG radio network (who also own 3AW) that any interview form an AFC representative that is broadcast on there stations can be relayed on the AFC pod cast at a latter date.

It wouldn’t be legal to have both DMG and Austereo stuff on but they could have Andrew McLeod’s interview on Nova on Friday mornings, what ever crows in doing the after match interview with the AA boys, NC press conference, any interview with sports today on 3AW.

:p

Yes, I think it'd be a goer.

Can you download pod cast to anything?

I was under the impression that they were only downloader able to Apple Ipods?

Nah for example the pod cast I listen to ....footytalk is simply an mp3 file. The site even allows you to download the podcast so you can listen to it on a mp3 player or a computer at any time. I think the AFL.com.au Mondayitis is mp3 as well. I can listen to it at home or work on the computer. Sure most sites allow you to subscribe to your player but that doesnt mean you cant listen to it yourself on a pc or another device (non apple) that can play mp3 or other audio formats.

What AdamBK said.

The way in which web sites present podcasts varies. Some simply offer an MP3 download that you can click on and do the old "save to" thing - and save it to wherever you like. Others, you may need to right click and "Save Target As" or whatever. Some are more attuned to the iPod way of doing things, where you "subscribe" or "synchronise to your iPod" or whatever. But I think most make it easy enough to simply grab the MP3 and put it where you choose, as opposed to being driven by the technology.

CrowTV coming to a PayTV provider near you. I think , with the new media laws that this is closer and closer. Just check my OzLotto and see if I can buy me a tv studio and recievers

Sweet, tell us more. :thumbsu:

Are you for real PC or just going by a hunch that this could come in because of the relaxed media laws now?

To quote Ian Thorpe it would be “Fully sick” if the Adelaide Crows could get a set up like Manchester United and Real Madrid (and I sure many other in Europe) with a pay television provider.

Adelaide Crows 24/7. Hell Yeah 3:16

Thanks Adam and Arrowman. :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

May have to download the pod cast of “Get This” with Tony Martin and “Tough love” with Mick Malloy now.

Hunch and looking at how tv and sports are merging. As you said the models from soccer are there. I think the new media laws will allow this.

Both arrowman and I have talked about this before

 How close was I

From the above thread

I was being a bit of a futurist with my comment but somehow I dont think I am wrong, unfortunately.I see the AFL accepting a $800M bid from Foxtel with Foxtel then recouping some of their money($320M) by selling ''packages to each AFL club.Do I like it? No but I will find a way to pay it if I can

Your wish has been granted :) :thumbsu:

I was looking at the afc website today and look what I stumbled across

I wonder if they had planned to do one all along or do they read bigfooty?

What do you want at afc.com.au?

afc.com.au

Crows communications coordinator David Burtenshaw says: More and more Crows fans are turning to the club's website for information about their club. But what do you want to see on the site?

Our main focus this season has been to increase the news content on afc.com.au while also striving to maintain a flow of fresh stories, many of them appearing for the first time in any media. These changes have been rewarded with a sharp increase in web traffic. We have started ‘blogging’ and will continue to increase opportunities for fans to comment on football and its many issues. And soon the Adelaide Football Club will enter the exciting world of podcasting when we launch a new Crows radio show.

Audio and video content will continue to develop before next season. But we are open to new ideas, so tell us what you want on the Adelaide website …

I also emailed my question about a podcast to the club late last week, and got prompt responses from Craig Burton and David Burtenshaw.

On the off chance that people at the club read BigFooty as well (or even if they don't) I think it's extremely positive that the club is prepared to take supporters suggestions and at least consider their merits, and take the time to answer. Thank you Craig, David, and the AFC. :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

What is a podcast client?
A podcast client, or media aggregator, is software that collects syndicated audio content (mp3's) from different websites, depending on what you have subscribed to, and displays the information in a single consolidated view, like iTunes. Podcasts clients are easily available and often free to download.

What is podcasting?
Podcasting is a method of subscribing to an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed which then delivers automatically updated audio files (mp3's) to your podcast client.

For instance, if you subscribe to Crow Call, then each time a new radio show is published to afc.com.au it will also be delivered directly to your podcast client. Then you can either listen to the podcast from your computer or transfer the file to your portable mp3 player and listen to Crow Call Radio whenever you like!

Instructions on how to subscribe to Crow Call Radio podcasts
You can subscribe to the Podcast XML feed in a few ways, including:

Drag the red XML button into your Podcast client

Drag the URL of the XML feed into your Podcast client

Cut and paste the URL of the XML feed into your Podcast client
Or they could just let us download the effing MP3 file to play when and where we want.

I don't want to 'collect syndicated audio content (mp3's) from different websites, depending on what I have subscribed to, and display the information in a single consolidated view', I want to listen to the effing MP3. I don't want the podcast automatically 'delivered directly to my podcast client', I want to download and listen to the effing MP3.

Effing "podcast clients".

Edit: Here, right click on the link below and "Save Target As" to save the MP3 direct, without having to "subscribe", or "consolidate" :) :

I enjoyed it, understanding the context of what it is designed to be. As a production with the blessing of the AFC, there's limitations in what you'd expect to hear - certainly, there isn't going to be any bagging of performances like you might get here.

At least for someone living interstate, it's nice to hear from people at the club like Paul Hamilton, and far preferable than having to read a Tiser article with one skeptical eyeball looking for the slant that the journo is putting on the interview.
