Mid East Israel declare war after Hamas attack III

Here's a short story. If you're interested you can read up on it.

A pianist played with the melb symphony orch (MSO). He played a piece inspired by gaza and said words to that effect. The MSO CEO sacked him. The board of the MSO sacked the CEO. THe board contracted peter garrett to do an investigation. Three months later nothing happened and Garrett was let go. A new CEO employed, three board members left including the man who sacked the CEO, and were replaced by three others, two of whom were jewish. I dont think musicians playing with the MSO will be stating any support for palestinians. Problem solved.

The UN vote, the Israeli PM's office spokesperson had been quoted as saying, meant Australia may no longer be a "key ally" of the Jewish state and that the vote would undoubtedly "invite more terrorism" and "more anti-Semitic riots" on Western campuses and city centres, "including in Australia".

Bring it on!!!....pleasssssssssssssssssss...pretty please with sugar on it. Is there anyone that I can pay to get this done?? Surely I can join an organisation to pay to send some politicians on world holidays, if they make a break with israel....

a greater tolerance for anti-Semitism as you're on the same side for this issue and discriminatory thinking can br contagious.
I don't see that at all.

Do you have examples?

'Unfortunately, it is impossible to separate this reprehensible act from the extreme anti-Israeli position of the Labor government in Australia', said Netanyahu.

Whatever you say, Ben.

The guy's calling the Aussie government extreme, and doesn't think his campaign of starving and bombing children is extreme? What's more likely to encourage antisemitism? Netanyahu's actions or Australia's actions?

Now I've ****ing heard it all!

Compare the - ah yeah of course, it's owned by The Jews comments about Hollywood. It's used as a conviction for sneaky manipulation that doesn't need any further support.

Ah yeah of course Newscorp is owned by those sneaky manipulative Australians, Ah yeah of course it's owned by those sneaky manipulative Christians. Ah you of course, something is owned by a black person - I don't think any of that would fly as well.

Neither would a heap of other stereotypical tropes about The Jews that are becoming more and more normalised.

It's not that simple a divide. Israeli propagandists will falsely claim that all criticism of the war is mutually dependent on antisemitism. Many others will falsely claim that all criticism of Israel's war is mutually independent of antisemitism. But it's more of a Venn diagram than that. An anti war rally contains heaps who are solely protesting against a government's war, but it does also contain the weird versions of the Australian flag favoured by neo-nazi groups, as well as the drive them into the sea beliefs of some Islamic groups and regardless of your views of a two state solution, there is a lot of river to the sea chanting that goes on.

Some criticism of Israel's war is laced with anti-Semitism and some isn't. There does however tend to be a greater tolerance for anti-Semitism as you're on the same side for this issue and discriminatory thinking can br contagious.

A common enemy creates strange bedfellows - just as Iranian liberal intellectuals stood side by side with religious fanatics when they overthrew the Shah together.

thankyou. and much of what you say has merit. it also plays into the narrative of what zionist propaganda outfits like aijac do which is to conflate every critique of israel as antisemitic and employ it effectively to stop all criticism of israel.

antisemitism is hating jews because they are jews. what occurred at the synagogue was criminal, and hopefully, the culprit will be caught, and the legal system will deal with that person. and we’ll find out the details. but to expand and conflate that with criticism of the regime that has occupied palestinian land, often violently, for decades and is now committing genocide is playing into the hands of the powerful and influential zionist propaganda machine that trades on that conflation.

read the following statement by the jewish voice for peace that explains the matter succinctly.

Opposition to the political movement of Zionism and/or the policies of the state of Israel is no different from criticism of any other political ideology or policies of any other nation state, such as the settler colonialism, imperialism and white supremacy at the foundation of the United States.

But the Israeli government, U.S. government, and anti-Palestinian organisations run concerted campaigns to redefine and misstate the meaning of antisemitism, aiming to falsely conflate it with criticisms of Israel or Zionism. They do this so the Israeli government can avoid accountability for its policies and actions that violate Palestinian human rights.

So most jews aren't bombing children and blowing their heads off by sniping at them in the streets of gaza....so it's just a stereotype.....we should just look the other way

It's ironic that people want to introduce legislation in parliament to protect whatsapp groups because ONE journalist leaks a list of names....and an Israeli PM brands a whole country as antisemitic because two guys start a fire in a synagogue...

what goes around comes around...

Yes Mark, it's pretty clear that your attitude is what goes around, comes around ... to The Jews.

Just as it's clear that the Israeli government have the same attitude towards the Palestianians.

Cue a children dying comment. It's as predictable as an antisemitism call.

There's little doubt that brutality by a section of a cultural group increases dislike, distrust or hatred of that cultural group and also increases the prevalence of thoughts turning into words and actions. We see it after brutality from Islamic groups and after brutality from the IDF.

There's also little doubt that Israel and supporters use the very real concept of antisemitism as propaganda to defend against very valid crisicism of the Israeli government's actions. This actually increases genuine antisemetic thoughts and actions as it enables criticism of ideas that are attacking a cultural group to be easily dismissed as Israeli propaganda.

In terms of cause an effect. Trying to blame the destruction of a synagogue on war protests is hiding the real cause: Pre-existing anti-Semitism fuelled by a barbaric massacre being run by a Jewish government.

If you want to reduce anti-Semitism, become an anti-war protestor. Bibi's war has inevitably caused the rise in and acceptance of anti-Semitism. It's a bonanza for neo-Nazis.
Wouldn't the neo-nazis be supporting Israel? Arabs are their least favourite Semitics.

The Israelis are covering some of the nazis greatest hits. Collective punishments, ghettos, ethnic cleansing, lebensraum.

Depends on the group. The scourge of the Jew has remained talking point number 1 for many groups (occasionally 2 behind homosexuals). And those groups are very present in the anti-war protests - or as they would view them - anti-Jew protests. Avoid those at a Gazan protest with Australian flags, or worse still variations of Australian flags.

well i dont use rifles with sights to shoot off the heads of israeli kids....so I'm not sure that I can compete with the israelis. Rather a silly, over the top comment that is unlike you. But it's not unusual for gentiles speaking about this topic to get emotional.

Dutton is one example and there are many others around the world. However, I've never heard dutton or similar take anti-arabic words or actions as personally as he does anti-semitic.....or anti-black words or actions. It's something that intrigues me. You're a learned man, SR. Maybe you can tell me why Albo goes off his brain about anti-semitism but is far more measured when it comes to other groups having "hate" directed at them. Why are we changing legislation and assembling new police forces and spending money on education programs to stop anti-semitism, but we're hardly doing anything to stop anti-arabic or anti-islamic actions.

And dont tell me that there's no money in it.

Thats a good point. Not only must the israelis be cheering every child that gets bombed but those neo's must dancing to hitler's greatest hits...

I still maintain our pm should send a one line reply.
"F*&^ you Bibi, you genocidal maniac".

We have an election next year. Tell that to your local representative...and tell your friends to do the same. The more people who let their reps know that they dont like the israeli murders, the more likely the reps will pass it on to Albo....and the reps might even give up their free holidays to israel.

You gotta love the Israelis. They just stuff it in the eyes of the worlds' leaders and dare them to say something. How about this headline from Aljazeera. Using palestinians as human shields........ Where have I heard that one before?????

Israeli forces use detainees as human shields in hospital evacuation attempt: Monitor

The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor reports that Israeli forces have used Palestinians as human shields in their continued attempts to evacuate hospitals in northern Gaza.

Because it's a talking point of Murdoch rags, Dutton, Jones and others who have a significant impact on Australian debate. He's coming from the left and trying to squeeze up as close as possible to not lose the votes in-between them.

I know Albo's strategy but why is dutton so obsessed with loving jews?...and murdoch etc. What's the angle? There must be money in it eh...

My belief is there's votes to be won through division - his mentor Howard did very well out of campaigning on race and islam is more widespread in Australian society with populations increasing and thus islamophobia is far more deeply entrenched in Australian society than anti- Semitism. Or in Murdochs case money to be made in polarising.

There's votes and money in cultural wars and islam is more widespread in Australian society and thus islamophobia is far more deeply entrenched in Australian society than anti- Semitism, so it's an easy choice.

I would have said in the past that sounds like an irish explanation but I've decided to stop sending up the irish since they started showing more backbone than Australians.

So let me work this out........more islam - which presumably means there are more islamic australian voters - versus the smaller jewish demographic.......and the politicians pick the smaller group to support....ahha...

It's all too complicated for me. Perhaps I should just join you and shoot some babies...I might get that free holiday to israel

I have a maths question for the experts out there.

The israelis are killing about 50 a day at the moment, using weapons. I dont think we have any figures for dying through starvation etc.

So that's about 350 a week or about 1500 a month. On a good day, the Israelis can usually get more, but sometimes things slow down.

I just remembered there is usually 150 casualties a day, and with the hospitals and doctors all shot up, a lot of those casualties will be dead soon.

So I'll round it out at about 1000 dead a week or 4K a month.

So the question is, when are the israelis going to run out of palestinians to kill?

The politics of division doesn't try to get every vote. Islam is still less than 4% of the Australian population. There's a few seats where the Islamic vote is significant, but labour aren't exactly dazzling Islamic voters in those seats. They'll probably go to independents and they're more likely to go to independents with conservative views, which is significant, as a minority government is a pretty good chance.
