Mid East Israel declare war after Hamas attack III

The politics of division doesn't try to get every vote. Islam is still less than 4% of the Australian population. There's a few seats where the Islamic vote is significant, but labour aren't exactly dazzling Islamic voters in those seats. They'll probably go to independents and they're more likely to go to independents with conservative views, which is significant, as a minority government is a pretty good chance.

i can see you have the numbers all worked out. Backing palestinian children is for losers eh?...i knew it all along really. I might have to reconsider my position in line with my career aspirations. I did want to become a trombone player in the MSO.

Albo was in perth today. I was going to go out and try to have a chat with him but he spent the day at the central synagogue. Tomorrow morning he will be giving a press conference on the fire bombing and then flying back to melbourne to do an inspecton of the damagae synagogue, after which he will be meeting local leaders in caulfield to discuss a new permanent section within the federal police and the funding of new security officers for all synagogues and jewish schools throughout australia, after which he will be making a call to the israeli PM to apologise for making unprogrammed choices at the UN. This should take him up to the sabbath...

I was asked earlier whether the Liberal party supported the two state solution. I said that I assumed that it did. Evidently I was wrong. It doesnt appear to support it. This is from the Guardian....

Following news of the votes, Dutton told reporters in Sydney he did not support the Albanese government’s shift on the issues, claiming they had been taken for “crass political purposes”.

Asked whether the opposition still supported a two-state solution, Dutton sidestepped the question, insisting the focus should stay on defeating Hamas.

“The best we can do for peace in the Middle East is defeat Hamas and Hezbollah and make sure their proxy in Iran does not strike with nuclear weapons, or through the Houthis, or others they are finding because innocent women and children are losing their lives,” he said.

I assume that when dutton visited israel earlier this year for instructions, that he was told not to support the establishment of a palestinian state....

It's long been bipartisan policy to support a 2 state solution
John Howard was a signatory along with other ex PMs to a letter on this subject after October 7
The Liberal Party website says as much as well
Dutton "sidestepped the question " is entirely predictable

It's not that simple a divide. Israeli propagandists will falsely claim that all criticism of the war is mutually dependent on antisemitism. Many others will falsely claim that all criticism of Israel's war is mutually independent of antisemitism. But it's more of a Venn diagram than that. An anti war rally contains heaps who are solely protesting against a government's war, but it does also contain the weird versions of the Australian flag favoured by neo-nazi groups, as well as the drive them into the sea beliefs of some Islamic groups and regardless of your views of a two state solution, there is a lot of river to the sea chanting that goes on.

Some criticism of Israel's war is laced with anti-Semitism and some isn't. There does however tend to be a greater tolerance for anti-Semitism as you're on the same side for this issue and discriminatory thinking can br contagious.

A common enemy creates strange bedfellows - just as Iranian liberal intellectuals stood side by side with religious fanatics when they overthrew the Shah together.
And this is the issue. Those that conflate judaism with Israel, rightly or wrongly, help fuel attack on and hatred of the religion.

I know Albo's strategy but why is dutton so obsessed with loving jews?...and murdoch etc. What's the angle? There must be money in it eh...
Bob Carr who knows better than anyine here, explained it very clearly. The Israel lobby give monetary donations to parties and free holidays for MPs and journalists. This buys them the influence they need on Australian policy.

I havent had my cornflates this morning but ...

According to the Jewish Law of Return, all Jews, no matter where they were born, are Israeli citizens by right. With the word “Jew” the law refers to every person born to a Jewish parent, or who is a convert to Judaism, and is not a member of another religion.

Cornflates aside as I'm a weetbix man....

On 1 May 2018, the Knesset passed the Nation-State Bill, with a majority of 64 voting in favor of the bill and 50 against in its first reading. Upon presenting the reformed bill, Chairman Ohana stated: "This is the law of all laws. It is the most important law in the history of the State of Israel, which says that everyone has human rights, but national rights in Israel belong only to the Jewish people. That is the founding principle on which the state was established".

Yes Mark, Israel's charter means there's no uninvolved Jews only unarmed Jews. Or is that the Hamas charter and Palestinians or perhaps Muslims. Am I cornflating the right thing?

i just ask myself who is bombing, sniping at and starving children....i find that to be the simplest way to answer the main issue.

the western media is complicit in not only being largely silent on the occupation and genocide but, in many instances, acting as collaborators and enablers. without this silence and support, the israel regime would never have got away with their cruelty and occupation.

its easy to blame the media...but who are making the decisions? What are their self-interests? And what about the citizens in these democracies?

Why dont Australians care about Palestinians?

On one side, I just did a search on "gaza australia survey" and got a ton of polls stating that australians want the war to stop.

On the other side, I just did a search "anti-semitism australia survey" and didnt get one result from a survey organisation about what the people thought. All I got was a barrage of complaints from jewish organisations and from gov't organisations fretting about the rise of anti-semitism.

If the media is to blame, why is it better click-bait to go on about anti-semitism and forget about kids being bombed in gaza? I dont see the click attraction.

There we go - hit the emotion of children dying, when an unrelated thing is being criticised. Seems to be a similar tactic around the term antisemitism.

The difference being that no one is dying from anti-semitism.... even the fire in melbourne which has the PM racing from synagogue to synagogue to make speeches...

And if children getting their heads blown off doesn't affect you, fair enough. Unless youre jewish, I cant for the life of me work out why anti-semitism is motivating you. It's beyond me. And you're not alone. Most australian leaders are going far beyond what the average australian is displaying.... you tell me why, considering you seem to be living it.

Gout, the son of South Sudan couple Monica and Bona Gout, was born and raised in Ipswich, Queensland.
Some X users shared ugly comments on Saturday night with claims the athlete should not be referred to as “Australian”.

Hopefully, we're hear from the PM about a new department inside the Federal Police and a new South Sudanese ombudsman czar to undertake investigations of the twitter posts....and security assigned to everyone with links to south sudan
