It's time for Brent Harvey to hand over captaincy

Could not believe he slapped Dempster. Just as low as it gets.

The low part was making a formal complaint to the officiating umpire minutes later because he copped a bit of heat in return. He needs to man up.

While he's done a few things this year that he'd probably like to do over again, pretty disappointing most of the comments in this thread for a bloke that does a lot of behind the scenes stuff at the club.

Not every player can lead Jonno Brown style, Brent does the more team lifting things that we've sorely needed over the past 8 or so years.

And surprisingly the main thing that Wells was lynched for up until this year is exactly what Brent has done for his entire career.

I am not saying he is a flithy player or a dirty player, he is a player with out heart, a gutless squib...

A coward that has the face to turn the heat up on kids when he would not dare lead the way. He is the type of leader who sends men to the death while sitting in a tent sipping on a nice hot cupo tea.

He is filthy nothing to do with any other player or any other club.

Jesus. Lay off the sauce. Boomer regularly plays injured, has come back from being knocked out to kick lifting goals.

He'll be giving up the captaincy at the end of the year and that's a good thing. He was only stop gap anyway.

LOL, really?
I did see after he slapped him, when the kerfuffle had died down he hopped back in and pushed him as he was getting up.

Gun player but you do not make forward pockets captains.
Brad Johnson, Harvey, or Brad Green. Just not the right style of player.

I'd include Lloyd in this. what a dog human.

Swallow will be first in line.
Ziebell won't be too far behind he is probably still too young and inexperienced though
Ziebell? that would mean north go from having a staging diver to a sniper as their captain..

I'm not a great rap for Harvey either but I cant believe I am reading that a St Kilda supporter is complaining about a captain diving and also crying to the umps for free kicks!!!

FFS, your bloke has built a big reputation for similar antics. Bulldogs supporters will never forget the diving weak antics by your captain in the 2009 preliminary final.
haha, still burns, hey? Chin up

I agree that it's time for him to hand it over to somebody else, but do not agree with the haters hammering him on here.
People have short memories, the bloke has been a champion. 172cm, he's competed against much bigger opponents and beaten them consistently throughout his career. He's also still burning younger blokes off like he was when he was 18-21, not many can or have been able to do that in the latter stages of their career!
Lol filthy? sniper? diver? dog? cheap? who are we talking about here, Barry Hall?

He should be shot, burnt and crucified. I mean, isn't he aware that his performance almost cost me a position in 2 league SuperCoach Grand Finals?

How dare he have a sub-par game?

On topic, who else at North can take the Captaincy? If Harvey goes around again next year, I think that's fine. Why burden one of your young players just yet?

Ziebell is hardly a sniper- he was just clumbsy and it will cost him accordingly. Having said that he'd need to get it done for a bit longer before becoming captain- Maybe Petrie for one to two years then Swallow? Otherwise straight to Swallow because he is a proven performer and not as consistent as Petrie (bar this year)

We usually hand over captaincy a year or so before the captain retires, it is probably the time to do it with Boomer. Scott talked about possibly even using Boomer as a sub in the future, you can't sub your captain.

Cant say i didnt tell you. Eight times at least.
Was never captain material.
Shouldnt need me to tell you.
Has hindered the last two seasons and partly responsible for why North consistently turn to jelly when put under pressure.

^^Ridiculous post. Boomer has been a great skip- the time comes for everyone
Nothing more childish and less progressive from fans than blind club bias, when people are simply trying to say it how it really is. Your club WILL be addressing this.

I think enough water has pssed under the bridge to safely ignore those fans trying to defend him as a captain for the 60th time.

Has been a poor captain...which of course is no reflection on him as a player.

Your choice to smell the roses or bury your head.

Theres some complete Bollox in this thread

Hes done a pretty good job.
North have turned round a 2-7 start to the season, plus a big loss to the pies to finish mid table which considering the inexperience of our list plus the preseason from hell is not horrendous
Boomer has to take some of the credit for this .

hes probably let the frustration of a finals berth slipping away to tarnish his reputation on sat. But when you play 300 plus games , you're bound to have occasions when you let your frustration get the better of you

The whole premise is ridiculous. You don't hold the captaincy and choose when to hand it over. The coach chooses the captain.

I wanted Drew Petrie when the choice was made last time, but Scott hs said often enough that he's been very pleased with how Harvey had led the club, and seen a lot of qualities in him he hadn't appreciated until he was an insider at North. No surprises those qualities are missed on opposition supporters.

I've also, unlike most of the posters in this thread, seen almost all of the record number of games Boomer has played for North. I've seen him knocked down, scragged and beaten up and lift many times, and I've also seen him unable to rise and lift the team, like the other night. That's life for most players over long careers.

I think most North supporters are expecting him to play the end of his career under a younger captain. Either Swallow or Petrie would be natural and good choices. Swallow has become an amazing player as well as a quality young man who presents himself and the club really well. Petrie has had one of his best years and played with a lot of onfield leadership too. Both Spitta and Drew have been put up for a lot of media this year, so if that's been an audition both have looked good. Spitta knocking back GWS and having such a talented little brother won't do his chances any harm. Drew's got the Ballarat connection as an bonus.

Whichever way they go, it will still be good for the club to have Harvey around as a player and an example of getting the best from yourself. He might not have respect on Bigfooty but he's had it from Stevens, Archer and other tough players, and he's got the B&Fs, a premiership and North's games record, so I expect he'll sleep okay.

This.

He was committed to the contest and made an attempt to hurdle roo at the last moment imo.

If Jack had wanted to clean up Riewoldt with a dirty hit, they'd be holding the big blond bloke's funeral later this week.

Go down to your reserves and go give the bloke at Full Back a serve for being pathetically stupid.

Told once. Told twice to stop playing the man. Did it again.

The only thing he tried to do was take him out with his hip.

Committed to the contest... Turn it up. The ball was on the ground, not 5 feet in the air.

One intention. One only.

Actually no, he went for the bump to get Riewoldt out of that contest but no one does it intentionally(unless you're Lloyd). If he wanted to clean him up, Ziebell would have put him in hospital for a month.

Go watch Lloyd clean up Sewell then tell me what's intentional and what's a fair dinkum bump.
