News Ivan Soldo's trade to St Kilda falls through

Honestly he's ripping the bandaid off while he still has draft capital and for that I'm thankful. Too often people commit to something that isn't working and it ends up being worse for everyone involved. Let's hope the Sainters give us something half decent, they're usually a very reasonable side to trade with.
Yep. Honestly last year when we were all looking at the trade it felt like we only really needed Soldo or Sweet for one year until Visentini was ready. To actually have that occur after the trade, definitely works well if we get a good chunk back some of the draft currency he cost us.

Sweet #1, Visentini will absolutely be ready to be #2, that's a good combo to enter the year with.

If we can get the Saints 2nd pick this year (24) that’d be good business. Soldo is probs worth pick 35-40 though realistically.

This could be enough to extract Luko, without involving the Houston business.
Anyone know what a pick like 24 would end up as after academy or FS picks?

I got the feeling Ivan is the sort of player that needs everything in his personal life to be going well to play at his best. As soon as his Mrs left, his form really dropped off. Can't really blame the man tbh

Lol how they clarify it was a pick in the 40’s, it was 41, and it was actually a second rounder before it got pushed back to 41 after compo picks and priority picks.

Just like saints pick 24 and pick 43 will end up being something like 26-30 and 45-55.

Saints have pick 24 and 43.

There’s just zero reason for us to take 43. As I said before , it’s gonna end up around pick 50 before trade day and probably much later on draft day when f/s noms push it back and when Barrett gets a bid before it, it will be worth **** all points.

While it would be great to get Pick 24 from saints and use that in the Luko trade, the other option is getting as many points as possible in next years draft, to help Gold Coast with points for academy selections.

I'd take a future 2nd.
IMO, we have 4 years till our core squad is peaking, Rozee, Butters, JHF, Bergman, Georgie, Jones, Sinn, Burgoyne, etc. We need to improve that 2nd layer of our squad now, so they're starting to hit that 4-5 year level where players usually start hitting their potential asap.

Seriously, can people stop posting about Ivan's girlfriend and his relationship. It is tiresome and will be deleted. Trade news only.

What exactly is hardball for a somewhat ok injury prone ruck lol.. we'll take whatever and move on.

If the option is receive “whatever” let a port ruck whose shown 5 mins of good form get comfortable or to keep soldo and lose the chance to get this “whatever” the latter choice is by far more attractive

Port fans don’t have to look back very far to see how easily it happens, pretty sure people were raving about lycett when he first got here. Plenty of afl rucks have had highs and lows.

I want something in return to be worth the risk.

Yeah a future second, they probably nudges the bar. Of course what teams would be willing to give up for him from their end and their own reasons could be totally different. I certainly wouldnt want to trade much for him.

Good, piss off

How weak can you get, can't be bothered fighting for his spot

Jesus Christ. Does this also apply to players who ask to be traded to us, or does it only work the other way?

He's a human being who moved interstate for more opportunity but for various reasons not entirely due to his performances, which were pretty good but just got eclipsed by a slightly better, younger player, that opportunity hasn't materialised.

We're also paying him a starter's salary and holding a player worth a 2nd rounder on the open market to play in the Maggies.

It's a better fit for everyone if he gets traded back.

Because he values his relationship over his job and a bunch of sad misogynists with warped priorities are offended by that.
It appears he didn’t last year when he agreed to come over?

He came over expecting to be a starting AFL ruck, not playing SANFL. He agreed to the trade before we got Sweet in.

Literally nobody on the planet would stay under the conditions he's found himself in when a trade back to his home state is achievable.

Oh I wholeheatedly agree.

We have enough players on our list that give up easily when things aren't quite going their way.

I'm sorry, were you making these arguments 12 months ago when he was traded here because he wanted more opportunity? How is it any different? People move jobs for better opportunity all the time, and if that opportunity doesn't work out, they move again.

Would you stay in a job for three years away from home and away from your partner if you had the option of moving to a better role on the same or better pay back at home with your partner, friends and family, and the employers at your current job didn't even particularly want to keep you?

If you would you're a ****ing idiot.

I have no issue with him going, he came here knowing terms. He was our first ruck but his body didn’t hold, reoccurring theme.

Ultimately I think his form was pretty good with us, certainly an enormous upgrade on anything we had in 2023, but Sweet is just as good if not better, younger, and grew up a Port supporter. It's a pretty easy choice for everyone.
