Re: JA off to Blues

I'm not sure about that. I think he's on the border at a number of clubs.
If he regains his 2009 form he'd walk into just about any club.

**** him

We we're prepared to trade him, no one wanted him and then he walks out

Weak
He wants senior action. And to be honest, trading for Tarrant would've been a bit of a slap to the face as well. He deserves to be playing seniors, not VFL. He's just looking out for his career, fair enough imo.

Re: JA off to Blues

Very disappointed it happened, but his decision is udnerstandable. Far too good for the VFL.

Good luck to him.

This.

Some very poor form from some of our more "recognised" posters here.

Clearly we can all see why Jack has made this decision.

It is understood Anthony holds no anger towards Collingwood, but had come to the conclusion he was no longer in Mick Malthouse's best 22.

Just like Luke Ball, Jack had to do what was in his best interests. Only difference here is both Collingwood and Jack are not bitter and have not burnt any bridges.

Good luck to him because he can definitely make it.

Re: JA off to Blues

Yep ^^^. Let's not act like some of the bitter St Kilda and Fremantle fans. We could understand why they wanted to come to us, and Anthony leaving should be no different.

Do any of you guys calling JA weak consider Luke Ball to be weak?

Re: JA off to Blues

I am a bit suprised nothing happened during trade week (or did you try trading him?). Surely he would be worth a second or third rounder.

Looking forward to him coming to Fremantle for FREE! I am sure that if he makes it that he will kick over 40 goals in 2011. Just what we need to put is right into the Top 4.

Thank you Collingwood!:D:thumbsu:

Re: JA off to Blues

Sad to see him go, have understood all along why he might and given that it would seem he didn't believe he could fight his way into best 22 just as well he left. (not the filth though):(

Over 40 goals? He has already done better with us and kicked 50.

You are clearly still bitter over Tarrant's departure. It's amazing how when the system works for your club you are ecstatic but when it doesn't everyone is a "DOG" and a "PRICK". This is why your club has been mediocre for so long. Suck it up, get over it and move on.

Just imagine in a few years time if Jack requested a move back home. Would tip yourself and many other Freo fans over the edge. Would make for hilarious viewing.

Re: JA off to Blues

If the Gold Coast decide to take him in the PSD, not unreasonable as he wont be asking huge $$, where does that stand with him being our 2nd uncontracted player taken by the Suns?

Are the Suns, simply not allowed to take him or would the AFL make up a rule on the run like they did with Jared Brennan and the Lions? (Yes, there was a trade but also a compensation pick thrown in too for Brennan) Compo pick would be a great result for us.

I hope he gets an injury free run and feel no bitterness towards him. We tried to trade him during trade week, reportedly, and no one was interested enough to offer up.

I'm very curious why he wasn't included in the Taz deal somehow. In saying that, if we did a straight swap, we'd have pick 55 to use in the draft instead of 77. They're all hit and miss with picks that late.

I am well aware of what JA has kicked so far. He is leaving the Pies and coming to Freo because you recruited Taz that will make it even harder to break into your team. You won a flag without him, Taz and Krakouer will be excellent additions to the squad that mean that he would be trying to break into a squad with a massive queue for the positions that he could possibly play.

The bitterness from the Taz departure does not come from him leaving. It comes from the way that he and his manager behaved when Fremantle was trying to get him to the Pies. It meant that you got a premium player who can ensure an excellent chance for another flag for pick 55 (Dont count that 44 for 43 swap). The way that Taz has been paraded around the place since his return he is already worth more than that in membership sales.

Back to JA. Very happy that we got him seeing as you didnt need him. This way Presti can get another go at a flag in 2011. I am sure that Mick would be looking for that to happen. JA, like all professional players had to do what was best for his future. This is his best chance to make a real impact at AFL levelI am sure that there would be many teams looking to get a Full Forward who is under 25 without having to give up a high draft pick.

Re: JA off to Blues

Can't believe some of the bitterneess here.

JA was a god Collingwood player, worked his butt off to get back to football and was very good for us in 2009. Unfortunately, due to circumstances he found himself out of the side in 2010 and it looks a long road back. You're a long time retired and he's much better off pursuing senior opportunities at other clubs, and good luck to him.

I wish him well, but do hope he goes to one of the bottom clubs, as I don't want to see a contender strengthened.

As for the trade, I think we probably weren't committed enough to trading him until we got Taz over the line. That deal was done late and we had little time to find a home for JA. I'm sure there were plenty of clubs encouraging him into the PSD as well.

GOOD LUCK JA, and thanks for your good service at the Collingwood Football Club.

You wil surely find that Luke Ball is amazing and JA is now weak, soft, a squib and probably 'gay' now that he is not in your squad.

Like your supporters, not all dislike/hate/want to murder Luke Ball for leaving St. Kilda. The fact he went straight up to Lenny Hayes after our loss speaks volumes of where his head was/probably still is at.

Excellent post Thommo, by and large sums up thoughts of most I'd say.

But really, you're putting him up there with Bucks? Bobby Rose? Gordon Coventry? Lou Richards? McKenna? Daics?

He's good, but you gotta stop smoking that sh!t!!!!!!!!!

Re: JA off to Blues

He can go and get ****ed imo.

So we lose him for absolutely nothing when we could've got something even a packet of Tim Tams.

Like Matty said don't let the door hit you on the way out. Not happy Jan!!

And this is why people like you give a great club like Collingwood a bad name. This is why people hate Collingwood and their supporters. Lose him for nothing hey? What about Luke Ball mate? Got him for nothing, and he helped you to a premiership. I bet you're not complaining about that.

You shouldn't begrudge someone leaving for more opportunities, Luke Ball wouldn't be at Collingwood if he didn't leave for more opportunity would he? He gave you good service, Jack Anthony. You should show him some respect and wish him well for the future.

I know a lot of Geelong supporters who are still pretty bitter about Brett Prismall.

Re: JA off to Blues

Well, then they are d***heads. Prismall had every right to pursue opportunities elsewhere. I wish him nothing but success. Just because I'm a Cats fan, I can't be held accountable for what some other bitter Cats fans are saying/thinking.

I'm not sure why you brought that up. My point was pretty accurate and true imo. That post re Jack Anthony was pretty average, It's double standards. I don't know why you needed to bring Prismall into it, but I'm sure you can now clearly see I ain't bitter about Pris or anyone else who has departed Geelong. It's apart of footy.

I don't respect Collingwood any less because of a stupid post like that other one, I don't judge every Pies supporter based on one or two idiots. I hope you don't either :)

Re: JA off to Blues

Oh no, people hate us, this is news to me.:p

Great, even more reason why opposition scum can hate us, who really gives a flying **** about what "they" think.

John was a Collingwood player, and when he was, he was loved and respected by all of us, now he is gone, that love and respect has gone.

Yes it is disappointing to lose a great depth player like John, but we are not going to cry about it, he wasn't in our best 22, and that's ultimately why he left.

The reason why some pies fans are bitter on him is he gave us no chance to get anything for him, making his decision this late.

Does losing John Anthony make us less of a premiership chance in 2011 or 2012? HELL NO. If Dawes, Cloke, Nathan Brown or Ben Reid go down, Tarrant and Presti were always going to be our number 1 and no.2 backup, and if any more went down, and Jack was playing on a regular basis, well we would be screwed anyway with too many injuries.

I don't agree with all this crap that it is his only option, given others are ahead of him etc.... There is another option and that is work harder and earn your spot.

This is different to Ball, he couldn't have done any more but still wasn't getting the opportunities he deserved.

A fair to good player who provided depth when we had injuries, has potential but overall.....meh
