Jacinta Allan - How long can she keep the wool over the populace's eyes

Yes. And the complaints were that police couldn’t/ didn’t deliver medical care when the drunks fell over and hit their heads. So then they starting bring them to ED where we are a bit “**** we have no where to put them and that one you brought tried to punch us last week” so we don’t really want them (as most hospitals have no access to detox or alcohol addiction specialists, and many drunks not interested either)
I hear your frustration. Looks like the abolition of public drunkenness has had a massive unintended consequence.

Do you treat everything this way?
No. But forgive me for having little confidence in anything this government conjures. Just look how the abolition of public drunkenness is shaping up.

Ah, almost like you had to create an impossible scenario so you could say you'd support it without ever actually having to support it

A man is dead after being hit by a car hours after the state’s new sobering-up squad refused a police request to help him.

Three police sources, not authorised to speak publicly, said officers spoke to the man but were unable to arrest him after recent changes to the law, which abolished the offence of public drunkenness.
Hope the driver is okay

This government is a joke, they’ve enforced suppliers for a lot of items on all their departments and agencies.

The other day we went to purchase something, it was $130 from the governments supplier. When we looked up direct with the company who made it, it was $30…

Even better, much like Chrisco they not only add massive markups, but most of their products are old versions, so they get them even cheaper.

Yet government rules are it doesn’t matter if it’s cheaper elsewhere, you must use the company that’s paid for earned the government contract.

Yet at the same time they’re enforcing these expensive contracts on us, they’ve cut our budget for the 5th year in a row.

Should look at the whole of government travel arrangements, you have to pay per booking for the pleasure of doing all the work on a website yourself to buy tickets or book rooms that are often far cheaper online direct from supplier. Our boss let us ignore if we could prove savings by doing a comparison, so we saved hundreds of K in just one branch and then he got in trouble for it.

Joan Kirner all over again..Labor men destroy the State and hand the batten to Labor women on the way out..the batten of course turns out to be a hand grenade.

Yeah we brought up whether we could buy if found cheaper elsewhere and told definitely not! But to document it for future reference when they do a review.

Yeah, like our organisation the government hates would have any say in their contracts.

But on the travel, ours was set up wrongly so anytime you wanted chargeback option it would be a manual intervention and they charged for it. Thankfully after a while it was set up properly.

Same thing has happened in the education sector... Department has mandated state-wide single source supplier for fire equipment maintenance. It's costing many schools more and has taken work away from local CFA brigades in the bush who have done it for decades. Deprives them of much needed income and breaks a community bond that has been there for years.

It is nice of the government to rip even more funding out of the CFA.

5 years, 5 budget cuts.

Who can be surprised by this?

Premier Jacinta Allan was warned four years ago by Rail Projects Victoria, the governments own project agency, that a paltry number of passengers would use Labor’s $200bn Suburban Rail Loop.

The Sunday Herald Sun has obtained a secret document that was given to the then-transport infrastructure minister in 2020, which modelled growth in passenger traffic across the whole rail network through to 2051.

The analysis showed that few people would travel on the SRL compared to those who would be using the booming growth corridors in Melbourne’s north and west, raising questions about the massive investment.

Labor ministers say the data was not shared with cabinet during key decision-making processes for the SRL, but that it shows the risk of providing “platinum treatment” to southeastern suburbs at the expense of growth corridors.

The leaked analysis shows that by mid-century – when Melbourne has eight million people – there would be only 24,000 trips a day between the first two SRL stations, Cheltenham and Clayton, in Melbourne’s southeast. It shows that by the same year, trains running between Sunshine and Footscray in the booming west would be crammed with a whopping 270,000 passengers.

...

One Labor minister said the data was not shared with other MPs at the time.

“This is exactly why they didn’t bring the SRL to the general cabinet at the decision-making point,” they said.

“They knew western suburbs and northern suburbs MPs would be angry.”

The analysis by Rail Projects Victoria used the public sector’s integrated transport model – based on public sector population forecasts – and is likely to reignite debate about suburban infrastructure priorities.

She should have followed Dan's example of being in charge of everything but making sure there is no paper trail so you can deny blame for any mistakes later on

No one would be surprised Cheltenham to Clayton would be the least used bit. It’s right at the end.

Many current lines which have enormous numbers of passengers just have single track at the ends.

There may be strong arguments, but this article seems to be cherry picking worst case

Maybe, but (a) this isn’t the end but the beginning of the line and includes Australia’s biggest university as well as Deakin, and (b) it’s a report by a government agency, not some Liberal think tank, and the damning thing is that it was withheld from Cabinet.

A document presented through the editors of the Sunday herald sun?

A document leaked. I suppose you are disputing its existence or the fact a Labor MP (probably Ben Carroll) spoke to the HUN about it anonymously?

Where there is 💨 there is 🔥

They have a fair idea on passenger usage.

There's a reason they're going to use 4 car train. It's not going to be ridden end to end.

Why would the governments unsighted usage modelling be so different to the modelling by its own Rail Project agency?
