So I guess this means that we will never learn. That footage at the airport gave off such good vibes too.

I personally wouldn’t read to much into that interview - one he is in a position he probably never ever thought he would be in, switching clubs and two it’s probably a really awkward time to answer any questions definitively, he hasn’t even gotten home to his family to discuss the Melbourne trip face to face, nothing is official, has he even told west coast he is going to move? He probably like all of us, was fairly nervous and wasn’t sure what to say.

Perhaps but what I will read a lot into is that Simmo wasn’t singing his praises yesterday on SEN.

I wasn’t thrilled when it was flagged we were chasing him and now I’m even less thrilled after hearing Simmo yesterday. I was hoping he would at least bring elite training standards and leadership but Simmo didn’t flag either so that was disappointing to me.

Appears it’s based on pure structure purposes so hopefully the coaches can be trusted on this one…..

next you'll be telling me players are human and not wind-up toys for the amusement of BF posters

Simpson isn’t a salesman. He says we’re bringing him for experience (because we lack it) and because he doesn’t normally get beaten by his opponent.

I’m not sure if what he is saying about playing him too much is because he thinks he should have played more youth or if he is saying he played him out of form/injured.

Edit - he also goes out of his way to say he’s kept himself really fit. Which I assume means he’s a great trainer.

I think the Bahn Mi was off, hence the look of discomfort.

Regardless, Darling isn't a hindrance to chasing other players imo, unless we are looking for someone else with the same garbage pick we are going to use for Darling.
To me it isn't about picks or money, it is about list spots. We only get 42 - maybe 44 if we get to keep our extras for another year. We already have 37 players signed up for next year. Five of these are short-term low-ceiling talls - adding another is crazy unless we pay out a few contracted duds.

Just smacks of Brady trying to reach the salary cap base next year, especially with TT going. He would have known what Darling would have been on given his time at West Coast. We'll get him for peanuts to give WC the salary cap relief which they can free up for Reid etc. by front loading others.

We'd be better off giving the $$ to LDU or wave it in front of someone like Riccardi, Aleer or Derksen but unfortunately we've snookered ourselves with such an array of spuds and young players that don't justify the base salary cap expenditure.

Sam Day would have been a better prospect but he'd be too cheap, such is the perverse outcomes of our diabolical list management.

Sam Day is also injury prone. Something Jack Darling is not.

I am not sure how much you want to read into that mini interview/question. I personally loved Simmo on there and he was good on the front bar too - but simmo a is north man, he received tutelage under Clarko, I’m sure the powers to be have all the information they need from a trusted source and friend. Maybe Simmo just didn’t want to give everything away and had norths best interests at heart playing cards close to his chest?

I understand that sentiment, but you can't just have a list full of kids with no experience unless winning 2-3 games a year is something you are comfortable with.

We have to make some compromises in terms of we need to have a best 18 that is going to put up a fight to create a better environment for the kids to learn in. We have a bunch of experienced guys currently that aren't offering us a lot and aren't best 18 and I think if they make way for Darling then it wont hinder development.

I wouldn't even break into a sweat finding 7 people to get rid of that imo wouldn't have a detrimental effect on the performance of our team, and probably another 5 I could add to the list which I know the club wont get rid of. That is the problem we are facing. We allocated plenty of room on our list to draftees.

Darling needs to lead, and yell at the others when and where to go. That's literally all he needs to do. A goal here and there would just be a bonus. We have potent goal scorers already, it's just that they apparently don't know how to work together, let alone work with (and for!) the midfield.

I'm not thrilled with us bringing him over, but the forward line already has issues aplenty! Worst case scenario... we waste money we already have to waste (because we don't meet the salary cap floor easily) and we use a list spot on a hack (we already have a dozen list spots bookmarked for that anyway). Best case scenario is that he helps sort out the lazy and stupid mess that is our forward line by yelling his guts out and leading (literally) by example.

The Jack Darling = It hurts to see you down in Darlinghurst tonight

He couldn’t have been more underwhelming if he tried! Jesus!

Would have thought if he had any leadership skills, we would have seen a glimpse of it then in his response, but unfortunately for us, zilch!

You can’t begrudge him wanting to extend his career (hopefully not at our expense) but perhaps at least mention you have a desire to help the young kids etc.

I get it was a doorstop interview but gee wiz…..

Anyway, let’s see hey…. 🤞 😬
I hear ya Danni, but to me looked like the poor fella got a bit hijacked by the media attention. Its a long flight, looked like he just wanted to get his bags and go home, and they were pretty obvious questions they asked. Pretty uncomfortable to be answering questions about a future at another club when your still a contracted player, and may not have had extensive discussions with WCE about leaving.

That's the part I can't work out. Why are we giving West Coast a leg up so they can wriggle out of paying overs for a declining player on the wrong side of 30, while giving them cap space to lock in high end talent? Surely, WC have to package up a usable draft pick as part of the deal. Isn't that the whole idea of salary dumps?

Maybe cos they took a hit on the Rioli trade to ensure we got Sheeze and Warlord?

Surely ignore or 'no comment' or 'yeah it was good to have a chat'.
