West Coast forward Jack Darling has been vaccinated and will be eligible to re-join the team for training this weekend.
The West Australian understands that while the paperwork surrounding the vaccine-reluctant star’s return is yet to be finalised, it remains the one hurdle delaying his return.
That hurdle is likely to be cleared at some point on Friday.
The news means that Darling has satisfied the league’s vaccination mandates which require players and staff to be double vaccinated to be allowed to attend the club and participate in training sessions
Darling has not been able to attend West Coast’s headquarters and has been training alone since the deadline for the first vaccination on January 21.

Apparently the "paperwork" will be cleared tomorrow and he'll be able to join training from this weekend.

fu** me - he hasn't rooted Shuey's mrs

not sure there is anything to mend.

You think the club suits aren't at all put out by this? That Simmo hasn't been frustrated by it? He wasn't even talking to his manager, footy clubs will put up with a lot but not being cut out cold by a player.

If that's what actually happened. He had his first jab weeks ago, presumably arranged through the club. Or maybe it wasn't, and verifying it is the 'paperwork' that still needs to be cleared.

Any burned bridges and clearing of air will come soon enough.

Seems like he’s back in the fold. He’s a talented player, whose best football is season changing and, even at his most inconsistent, is a sizeable upgrade on what we currently have healthy and available.

A weird saga, during a weird offseason, in the weirdest few years of this charade we call life. Jack’s back, good news, let’s crack on.

Uh, that is what happened - well documented throughout this thread how Jack Darling cut himself off from the club during this saga with zero communication with any official - West Coast, AFL, manager or otherwise - other than a couple of cryptic social media posts.

Hugh Dixon and Waterman would be spewing. Also not sure how we go back to fitting Darling and Allen back in the team if we want games into Williams

that doesn’t gel with his own managers comments from today

Depends on the player. Look at Collingwood and De Goey. Not only was he in the goalsquare at some stage but he has also been in a lot of trouble with the law that took behind the scenes negotiations.

JD is a jet, so naturally gets forgiveness faster than a fringe player.

I was probably happier knowing we would be complete turd. Now we have hope. Hope is dangerous.

Do you think the club and his manager knew he got his first vaccine weeks ago? In the time since they've still run with the 'no communication' line.

De Goey never kept the club out of the loop during his legal troubles as far as I know though, that's what really gets them.

But yes, better players get more leniency.

what purpose would his agent lying serve?
Dunno, there is so much about this saga that makes no sense.

EDIT: should also ask what purpose would JD not telling his agent about getting vaccinated serve. But you have to assume he didn't tell him if we're to believe his agent's statements.

For whatever reason - if he did indeed get Novavax a few weeks ago - then this course of action is bizarre. Given the comments by his own manager, I'm inclined to believe that 'no communication' line.

What would Jack Darling gain by keeping the club in the dark until the deadline if he was intending to get vaccinated?

Anyway it will all come out in the wash eventually and the important thing is he's back and hopefully tearing shit up for us on-field.

I've got a few relatives that were reluctant to get vaccinated and it put us all out a bit, being able to meet up at the same places, not wanting to give them COVID as they were in a risk category.

They ended up getting vaccinated and all we felt was relief. I think the club and Jack will be fine.

They're his mates, with actual relationships, we're just parasocial fans.

If he arranged the vaccinations himself without going through the club then that would open up the suggestion that he didn't actually get vaccinated. Surely wouldn't be hard to find a doctor to give you the right paperwork for a fee.
