Delisted Jack Martin [Selected by Carlton in the PSD]

Their options are trade with Carlton or lose him for nothing. If you think they have the balance of power then I dont think I can help you.
My argument is where carlton supporters think Gold Coast has no power in where Martin goes. They could loose him for nothing but they have absolute say if he's traded to carlton.

Scenario floated above:

Martin wants to play for carlton.
carlton offer a draft pick.
Gold Coast say, no we are not happy with that pick.

In this case, it's down to Gold Coast's decision to accept the offered pick or let him walk. carlton have the power to walk away if the asking price is too high but the final decision on the trade rests with Gold Coast, to tick off the trade or not.

Let's say carlton offer pick 39.
Gold Coast say, nah, we don't value that pick or wont even use that pick. No trade is done. carlton still need to make an offer that GC are happy with.

Why do opposition posters Feel the need to meddle/interfere in deals not involving their own clubs. This deal has nothing to do with the Crows, yet Adelaide fans keep on butting in (for example)

Because it's the main board drafts and trading forum, not the Carlton one :thumbsu:

Seriously? You have weighed in on the Howard, Ryder, Kelly trades just for starters. None of which affect Carlton. Everyone is allowed an opinion. And sometimes neutral observers make the most sense.

Well I should have re-worded my post tbh, but there are several neutral fans posting in this thread who are getting very wound up by what Carlton is potentially offering in the trade.

I get why Suns fans are taking a stance, but why do, say Crows fans feel the need to keep saying we should give up pick 8 or 9 (for example ?)

Look I don't want the Suns to be fleeced either (i am one of the biggest supporters of Gold Coast getting a priority pick and other assistance on this forum), i just find it a tad weird why others feel so strongly on an issue that doesn't affect their club at all ? Just strikes me as odd.

This is a public thread for all fans to discuss trades. And yes, usually fans from not involved clubs are more objective.

Nobody actually suggested that Martin goes for pick 8 alone. Some fans suggested pick 8 and pick going back (14 or 22). I would say most Suns fans believe Martin is worth 1st round pick around pick 15. Most Carlton believe his value is 2nd round pick. Some Carlton fans even suggested Martin is a delisted material.

No doubt the deal will get done as clubs most probably will work out middle ground. I guess most distorted part from Carlton fans is they think that Suns have no say in the deal. SOS decides what is the fair deal and that is. Suns have to take it or get nothing. Interestingly, when the club commits to the player they actually are under pressure too to get the deal done. I am sure it would go down well with Martin and his agent if SOS would tell them - We are sorry, Suns want pick 15 but we think you are not worth of it so trade is off.

Also somehow Carlton fans still want to believe that Suns fans are desperate for Martin to stay. You should read posts from them in the second half of the season. Martin has been with Suns for 8 years. It did not work out for both sides. Time for fresh start.

Personally, in the end it really does not matter if Martin's value is 1st round or early 2nd round. More important is who would be drafted with it, how the club would develop him.

If I recall correctly , after 31 October next, should Martin not be accommodated at either club being an OOC player he’s automatically delisted for nothing, zero is that right?
Seems an irresponsible way to manage ones player.

Yes he is and does become a free agent and will need to enter the draft , If its the november draft then clubs can pick him up where he ends up is not in his hands.

If he enters the PSD and nominates a $$$ amount then he would have more of a chance to go to the blues but the suns could use the threat that they Will draft him (not that they will but could) or end up at melbourne which also have the cap space.

Personally i think it will get done but all depends on what the number of the pick is and the Papley deal and there would have to be a 3rd club involved if that is the case

Incorrect. You might like to review the rules around Delisted Free Agents.

Lol what? They went through this all before with O'Meara and got a top 10 pick + a future second rounder. O'Meara was coming off two season-ending knee injuries too.

You are delusional if you believe Gold Coast hold no power. Delusional.

Yep. They've been through it before and got a fair deal. Carlton will offer a fair deal. End of story.

Gold Coast hold no power to obtain overs as he is uncontracted, can apply for an AFL mediator if GCS are asking for an unreasonable return, and can nominate for the draft.

You're delusional if you think GCS would threaten to draft him again. They just would never do it. A player isn't a hostage.

If they were stupid enough to grab him in the PSD then they would get slapped with a Rule 22.1 Application so hard their heads would spin.

As all my posts have said, the trade will get done. The only question remaining and unknown, as I've also said all along, is simply what return GCS will get.

I would say that pick 8/9 is earmarked for the Tom Papley deal, but that is just my opinion.

We have a lot of fingers in pies at the moment, SOS will find a way to satisfy the Suns, he loves to do
Draft pick swapping, at guess I would say Martin's fair value would be a pick in the 15 - 20 range. This will probably be one of the last deals to be done I suspect

Well if Richmond get a pick for Ellis as Band 2 which would give us #18 & #19
maybe we could do a deal

Yet another example of your poor research and comprehension skills.

AFL Rules 2019

It's hilarious you are debating certain topics that you show yet again you know nothing about.

Seriously?

"4 days of being selected to be released from the Club which has selected him on the ground that there are exceptional and compelling circumstances which make it harsh and unconscionable for the Player to remain bound to that Club"

"There is no chance in the world that he could get out of that under these grounds if the club he is leaving has given him an option of another club in the state he wants to get to and the club is matching the same deal"

This proposed theoretical of GCS using their PSD to redraft him to force him to stay (which will never happen) falls exactly under this rule,

You didn't even know what the official Rules were. Why do you think you're qualified to interpret them?

No it doesnt you are completely wrong
" exceptional and compelling circumstances "

There are no exceptional or compelling circumstances for Martin to only select 1 club, He has 3 clubs that are after his services

That rule will be for people like Kelly who could use family or Dayne Beams with his father

A deal will get done but by no way it will be totally as you are saying for a 2020 2nd rounder

Carlton will need to find a pick that satisfies GC

Fantasia one too.

Every year we sit here and go “won’t happen, PSD etc etc”

However 49/50 get done, it’s happened that a player has ended up in the PSD, but it’s rare. It will get done at sometime between trade opening and the last second of trade period
