Way to young and immature to be the captain of this struggling football club. I have seen a number of instances both today and in the past few weeks which are cringe worthy for a captain. For example, Melbourne have a shot on goal 15 meters out and Trengove is continuously pushing Addison I think who is trying to stand the mark right in front of the umpire just flirting with danger
Of being reversed. It would be okay if his performances were inspiring but he's to physically and mentally immature to be captain. Should have given it to jones or moloney atleast they look like they give it all.

He's clearly not ready for the Captaincy, but who else is there? The whole team is choc-filled with mediocre players, looks like its just another development year for a team that just won't improve.

He made himself look like an absolute tool today, but he was obviously out there on orders from Neeld to spark the boys up - which he did. Probably needs to pick and choose his battles so as not to come off as a pest like Ballantyne though.

I don't watch many Melbourne games but surely Jamar is a reasonable enough player to be captain. He was in AA form a couple of years and is always around the ball being a ruckman.

Does he not have leadership aspirations or has he had disciplinary issues in the past? Maybe Melbourne supporters can help me out.

Jamar would be copping much more criticism if he were captain at this stage. Has been mediocre this year.

Pretty easy to have a crack at a 20-year-old captain of a club 16th on the ladder after four games. I'll let him grow into the role before passing judgement.

Jones has been in brilliant form though and essentially leads by example.

I too think it was a questionable decision to have him as captain. Has potential to be a very good player and obviously a well respected young man around the club, but do you give the captaincy to a guy like that in a elite competition? Plenty like him, but they need development.

Moloney, Jones, Jamar, Frawley would have been the obvious choice, even for a two or three year stint to develop Grimes and Trengove.

Grimes with his injury history, should have been allowed to get back and concentrate on his football to get back to a reasonable.

We are all experts I guess the Melbourne supporters would suggest we do not know what we are talking about, but truth be told a lot of people questioned the appointment of these two young people to captain an AFL club.

What about Frawley?. From what i have seen when watching Melbourne there's only a couple of blokes who give it there absolute all and he is one of them and seems very passionate. Trengove has gone backwards this year based on the first four rounds. Hopefully he can turn it around, one thing is for sure someone down there needs to step it up.

Trenners is just nervous and trying to make a difference. Give him a month or two more.

Frawley lacks media prowess, Jamar is too quiet on field, Beamer is an idiot, and Jonesy has only come good this year.

The players voted for the Jack's.

Honestly thought he was ok-to-good today. Far worse out there (looking at you, pr0n Star!) and it's not exactly easy to be a Melbourne player anywhere right now.

Jones trains the house down too and leads by example both there and on field. Trenners is having a poor season but when you are in round 4 looking at 0-4 how many stand outs would we have?

Beamer is the heart and soul of the club though.

I don't think anyone is having a crack at him, they're having a crack at the club for making him captain.

The Vandenberg comment above was spot on. A marginal player, but he was a strong leader and perfect as a place holder while Mitchell and Hodge got some experience. Surely there is someone at Melbourne who would have been a batter bet and just allow Trengove to learn the game and develop into the great player he is likely to become.

Jones captain? Isn't he like a bald Daniel Jackson?
Moloney a better on field leader.

Maybe, but I'm in the Jones camp. He's got guts and can lead by example. He wouldn't be the guy who could captain them to finals wins, but he'd be the guy to whip them into shape and make them hard suburban footballers and not prissy private school footballers.

melbourne don't need fancy right now; they need a drill sergeant.

So what! If you start worrying about that aspect of things you are NEVER going to win games of football. You might sound eloquent but who cares!

That is part of the problem with the MFC. They always have to be so prim and proper. I say let your knackers finally drop and be men that are not scared of being so. You don't have to wear the correct school tie to win a game of football!

They needed a Richie Vandenberg but didn't even have someone like him to wear it for a couple of years while building a side.

I daresay it's Melbourne's own fault for relentlessly pursuing a youth policy. Suddenly they've found there are no older players left to lead the youngsters so they're forced to make a second year player captain.
