Players are leaving because of Beveridge - no other reason. He won the flag on the wave of emotion in 2016, since then he has seriously under acheived. The guy is an accentric odd ball, how many 50 yo skate board on a regular basis, that says a lot about him in my mind. He has basically had too much talent on his list and cant manage them whilst he still plays his favourites. The Dogs need to move him on and get a more balanced coach running things, if they are ever to take advantage of their unbelievable talent.

This type of baseless crap^

Macrae and Daniel have re-signed year after year under Bevo and are only looking at trade options now for regular game time. Dunkley and Bevo were close and he wasn't the reason he left, plenty of articles to back that up. Bailey Smith is Bailey Smith, if you think he is leaving because of Luke Beveridge being an "odd ball".... sure.... Any other names you have on your imaginary list?

Some bad takes above.

Macrae likes playing footy as a pure mid. He’s currently not playing footy as a pure mid. St Kilda would like him to play every week as a pure mid.

That is really not a tough concept to grasp. Bevo didn’t **** his missus, bevo is not satan, and Whitten Oval is not a concentration camp.

The other easy part is that we’re not giving more than a third round pick for a guy who is just injury backup and that the Dogs want off their list. Anything more than pick 46 is a bad deal - asking for more is good negotiating but unrealistic

I'll take a coach who skateboards over a coach who left his last job under a black cloud after toxic workplace claims and a sexual harrassment payout any day of the week.

Maybe you're salty cause Bevo took 2 years to win as many flags as you guys have in well over a century.

I know this is an extreme scenario, but I will use it to make a point;

If an AFL team had a midfield comprised of Gary Ablett, Nathan Buckley, Chris Judd, Michael Voss and Simon Black, you just can't play them all in the midfield.

Let's say Simon Black was playing forward or back due to there being an abundance of gun midfielders. Is he then worth a 3rd round pick? That is a rhetorical question...

Macrae is no Simon Black obviously and he is 30 years old. Bulldogs do have a great midfield group, it is hard to get a go in there but I'd be pretty confident if Bontempelli was to get injured, Macrae would be playing huge inside midfield minutes and still racking up 30+ every week.

If St Kilda picked him up for pick 46, it would be a bargain.

When Judd's last full home and away season was completed, he was 29 years of age.

Ryley Sanders and Harvey Gallagher are no Voss and Black.

No issue with the go to mix that the Bulldog's choose, Bont, Treloar and Libba, but Macrae is not even cracking the 5th rotation.

On the eye test I thought McCrae's kicking lacked penetration this year and he suffers from the Ross Lyon criticism of Luke Ball, ie beaten on the spread.

If he wants out, we'll take him, if he doesn't we won't. For a low trade price he can compete at the Saints for a midfield spot, he's still a good extractor. At the dogs, barring 2+ long term injuries, we won't get a look in, and his skillset doesn't translate well to other areas of the ground. He's probably got the opportunity of 1 more year at senior level at the dogs, up to 3 elsewhere.

But the Dogs are well within their right to keep him a a backup.

For the Saints, personally I'd be looking at Carlton's Matt Kennedy for a future 2nd, over Macrae.

Believe it or not, when you have three slow, but gun mids (Bont, Libba, Treloar), you want quick, young, agile players to counterbalance their skillset, in Sanders and Gallagher, in order to balance the overall attributes on average across the three players you put in your team.

Nobody's suggesting Sanders and Gallagher are better footballers in a vacuum than Macrae, with all context and situations removed. But they might be better footballers in the specific context of needing to pick a third centre bounce rotation player, once you have already committed to two slow players being in that centre bounce rotation.

Such as Gallagher tagging Nick Daicos and needing to match his speed and agility in that Collingwood game to do so.

Not that had a concept to grasp.

All want out. As did Hunter & Dunkley before them. All have been very good AFL players, not duds.

Great list. Stars everywhere, yet lack of results are the norm. It's pretty common perception from outside there's a pretty pungent stench around the kennel, and it's been there for a while. Players not all happy. Believe what you want. Melbourne have hosed their issues down for 2 years now and aren't fooling anyone.

Not sure too many Saints fans will lose much sleep if Power's posturing keeps Jack there. Probably not ideal for Macrae though, or your club tbh.

You're absolutely clueless.

1. Caleb doesn't want out

2. The club has signed the majority of the big name players over many years

3. Hunter was moved because he was a cancer, that spread to Melbourne. Why don't you go ask them what they think of him? You won't.

4. Smith and Macrae are the product of not being able to get in front of Liberatore, Bont and Treloar. Not many would.

5. The players speak glowingly of Beveridge. The line that something stinks is tiresome and very lazy

6. Noone would rather Lyon who has plenty of issues over Beveridge as highlighted by others

7. I hope Jack doesnt end up at the Saints because it would be a shame hed have to get pantsed by the dogs

8. You have bugger all idea

Already proven this is crap, you're listening to too much Damien Barrett and Kane Cornes and letting it form your opinions.

Macrae - Happily extended his contract at the Dogs every single time it was up, including a 5 year extension in 2022. Wants a regular midfield spot if he can't get that at the Dogs which is fair enough, clearly not Bevo or club related all of a sudden but on field opportunity.

Daniel - Loves the club and Bevo so much that despite not being a regular in the 22 this past season, still doesn't want to publicly request a trade. If a deal can be reached, looking to go to North as he will play every week, but if no deal that suits the Dogs, is happy to come back to the club.

Hunter - Dogs pushed him out and dumped his contract to Melbourne right at the end of the trade period due to off-field issues. Nice try though.

Dunkley again was a coaches pet and he and Bevo had a great relationship. Couldn't get a regular settled run in the middle due to our depth there and sought a trade to somewhere he could play permanent midfield.

Any others The Jack or just want to continue to spew rubbish thinking you know so much about the Bulldogs, but just recycle incorrect opinions as fact.

So much toxicity in this thread when it’s not even a big deal.

Realistically, Jack only has a few more years and he’s not going to significantly increase either sides chance at a flag. Will probably be done for a Pick in the 40s and people will forget about the details in 2 years time.
It will be a boring trade done some time this week.

Clubs probably release shit to the media under the AFL's orders to make sure AFL is still in the news (plus make trade peroid seem like a massive deal)

Macrae is banana no.8 in the dogs midfield, ironically has the least transferable skills of the top tier Doggies midfielders and the rest of my post holds true, needs at least 2 or 3 LT injuries to even attend a centre bounce.

That caps his useful career at the Dogs at one more year, if that.

As i said. You believe what you want.

NO TALKS YET ON MACRAE

JACK Macrae requested a trade out of the Whitten Oval exactly one month ago, but the Western Bulldogs and St Kilda are yet to discuss the proposed move at all.

The three-time All-Australian is contracted until the end of 2027 but pursuing a fresh start at a second club after losing his spot in Luke Beveridge's side this year.

Macrae started the season in the VFL and played three games for Footscray in 2024, around four games as sub in 19 appearances, including the elimination final.

The 30-year-old nominated the Saints a week after requesting the trade, but the Bulldogs are understood to still be waiting to hear from St Kilda.

St Kilda is armed with picks 7, 8, 27 and 47 following the compensation they received after losing free agent Josh Battle to Hawthorn.

Simon Dalrymple, the Saints' new talent identification and player movement manager, selected Macrae at pick No. 6 in the 2012 AFL Draft when he was the Bulldogs' national recruiting manager and is understood to be a key figure in the recruitment push.

The Dogs aren't pushing Macrae out the door and don't desperately need to move his lucrative contract off their books, with negotiations to include who pays what.

Western Bulldogs list boss Sam Power will be aiming to extract St Kilda's second-round pick - currently No.27 - but the early expectation is this trade might not be resolved until deadline day, if at all.

Bailey Smith has also requested a trade to Geelong, while Caleb Daniel is considering whether to move to North Melbourne or stay at the Bulldogs.

The Dogs are wary of what happened to Melbourne last off-season, where James Jordon and James Harmes departed before Angus Brayshaw was medically retired, which left the Demons with depth issues.

Xavier O'Halloran remains a trade target for the Bulldogs and has been offered a three-year contract to move from Greater Western Sydney, but the Giants are determined to retain the contracted midfielder. – Josh Gabelich

St Kilda so desperate to get Macrae that they haven't even bothered talking to the Bulldogs yet.

exactly carlton's issue too. Too many of the same type, no matter the quality don't make a good team.

Will be the Saints 2nd best mid. Doesn't mean we'll get anything more than a pick in the 40s for him.
Not necessarily, if Phillipou’s form in the latter part of the year once he returned to the team and played midfield is anything to go by. With a third preseason under his belt he could be ready to explode next year.

And this is a big part of the reason why I for one would be extremely hesitant to pay any more than pick 47ish for Macrae.

If he was only contracted for a year or at worst two, on such big coin, it wouldn’t be an issue, but I would sincerely hope that we too would be in a position to be able to move past Jack within two years- by which time he will presumably have slowed down even more- which means that we’re probably only going to need him for two years at most, and possibly only 1. Depending on how we go in our attempts to land an LDU or Callaghan type.

So with him being contracted for 3 more years, on almost certainly more than $2mil, if he only plays seniors consistently for two of those years, we’re essentially going to be paying him over a mil a year, for those two.

And if we do happen to land a Callaghan or LDU, and we’ve got him, Steele and Phillipou in there as well, Jack might already be almost surplus to requirements after just one year.

Meaning we’re paying him over $2 million for one season of footy.

Personally, I think we might be better off if you trade Daniel, and demand more than we’re willing to give for Macrae, and you get to keep him and his $2mil+ contract.

We were top 6 on the form ladder from R12 onwards with our current midfield, and that was with Phillipou hardly playing, nor Windhager, so we could very easily be a lot better in there next year even without Jack.

We will of course also need to be able to find a midfield spot sooner rather than later for whoever we get with our first pick this year.

St Kilda have already stated to the Dogs that they wouldn't be paying the full contract amounts and to move forward with negotiations that the Dogs will still have to cover a small amount of the salary.

So I agree with your points broadly, but the Dogs are entitled to ask for a decent enough draft pick for a player that was still selected in a good team for the vast majority of the season, if you're trading for him if he's "in effect" got a lesser salary.

If the Saints had a willingness to take on his contract 100% the Dogs would walk him over for free. But you'd much rather be willing to hand over a small draft pick for a bit less of a salary.

Can you show me where St.Kilda has stated that we wouldn't be looking to pay all of his salary?

With where we are at (rebuilding via the draft and putting a premium on our draft presence) and how our TPP is (struggling to pay 100% of it with the list we have), I find it incredibly hard to believe that we wouldn't want to be taking on Jackson's entire salary.
