I don't wanna be "that guy" but speaking logically, we haven't really seen much of the Davey twins, so it beggars belief as to why they're mentioned as reasons for improving our team or being the second coming of Jesus or something. I think we need to be more realistic and hold off a bit. Not to mention that Alwyn was primarily the player he was because he was a small in stature and was a pressure tackling forward with speed due to said stature - something these two do not mirror, as they're quite taller than their father, and as such, what worked for Alwyn may not exactly be emulated with his sons.
They aren’t much taller at 180cm, both still very very quick

Alwyn jr has more runs on the board to this point in his draft year than Perkins did, certainly more than Caldwell and nudging the output of Hobbs relative to his position.

The idea that Alwyn in particular is some kind of myth or hope with no exposed form like Jake Long is a nonsense, he’s putting runs on the board.

And whilst they may be quick compartive to their height class, they won't be matching the burst that their dad had, which helped in his favor because it gave him time and space to work with to flourish to his strengths despite not exactly being one of the best in the game.

The twins aren't exactly the benchmark of their draft class, we haven't seen much to go by, and won't be benefiting from the same positional gift that Alwyn excelled in, so it's anyone's guess and as such requires some restraint in order to let the guys develop into their own and not set ourselves up for disappointment.

Maybe hold of making comments until you have seen a bit more of them. Who says they are slow ? From what I have seen i would say both have more small forward craft that their dad who seemed to continually lead up at the footy and was not actually a great crumbing forward and was prone to fumbling ground balls.
Nothing is certain of course but we have no small forwards and both of them have shown the possess attributes that could see them be good small forwards.
Both have done a hell of a lot more than Tex at the same stage.

Yes you can. As long as you find another club to be involved, and move back a few spots.
This got outlawed after Sydney did this with Blakey a few years ago.

The AFL is set to close the academy draft loophole which Sydney exploited to "park" picks at other clubs, in a move that is likely to have ramifications for Greater Western Sydney this year.

The Swans created a stir last year when they manipulated the league's points bidding system to acquire academy graduate Nick Blakey at No.10 for picks 34, 39 and 40 – a price which was widely accepted as a bargain.

The Swans achieved this by trading pick 26 to West Coast for the Eagles' future third-round selection. Then after drafting Blakey, they made another deal with the Eagles to get pick 22 for a future second-round pick.

This meant they were able to use lower picks for the points needed to secure Blakey.

The manoeuvre allowed them to get back into the second round of last year's draft and pick up James Rowbottom, whom the club has been highly impressed with in his debut season.

Though the league approved of Sydney's move last year, they have informally notified list managers this week at the Gold Coast that they will not be able to employ the same strategy during this year's draft.

Your talking to the guy who has watched just about every game Alwyn Jr has played this year, he is very quick does under 3 seconds in the 20m and his brother was even quicker. You didn’t know if they were as quick as the old man, now you do

So that's why they call Cal the Tombstone.

It's not knowing they will improve the list. Time will tell.

It's knowing we've got them and that they're good enough to be drafted.

Between Snelling, the Daveys, Tex and Menzie we've allocated 5 list spots to that small/half forward/running mid position.

Given that we need to add mids there is barely room on the list for anything else.

By the way, from what I've seen of the boys running they're more like their uncle, they'd burn the old man.

alwyn jnr has played 2 of his best games for the year in the first 2 champs games, not many players do that - currently he’d be in the starting 18 of the champs all aus team. He’s got a rare combination of speed and silk which is a mouth watering thought for afl clubs, if he was open draft he’s getting taken top 10. Any chance alwyn can take his boys to Europe for a holiday for a couple weeks 😂

Reckon its a bit early to be calling him top 10 at this stage. There are a lot of good players getting around Australia. He'd be pushing top 5 at vic metro but youve still got Vic country, wa, sa and allies.

I said if he’s open draft, he’s not so we’ll never know. Clubs put a lot less time into father son prospects.
But, game changing forward half smalls are the flavour of the time at the moment. Every club wants one in their side and Davey almost ticks every box with the qualities he possesses. Currently Davey is having a higher level of output at the championships than a Liam henry, and he went at pick 9.

He wouldn't be taken top 10 at this stage.

I think Alwyn actually said in an interview that he feels he plays more like Uncle Aaron. What a damn shame.

So I know Jayden is injured. How comparable are the twins in terms of their skills and abilities?

He’d be a round the mark, there aren’t too many players like him out there. Lots of clubs would like a player like him on there list. That usually pushes players like that past your general ball winning mids and makes them get taken a tad higher compared to their output (alwyns output at the champs has been outstanding so). If he keeps this form up for the rest of the champs games, a few might be very surprised at how high he gets bid on in November.
Go back and see where many had Kozzie Pickett ranked during the year in 2019

Did he? What a bummer!

Seriously though, Aaron Davey is one of the unheralded modern day greats.

He might have been the first "pressure" forward. He was also one of the earlier running half backs if I recall correctly.

Guy was an absolute jet, but great is pushing it.

And I know people describe him similar to Shai Bolton but realistically he'll be a small forward for the first couple of years whilst building his tank.

Yeah Aaron Davey was a gun. If Alwyn Jnr plays like Aaron, it will be fun times.

how good was Aaron.
I remember thinking he had Hird like touch of the ball but Mcleod running power. Probably similar to the player Bolton has developed into

That season he pushed into the middle for the Dees was superb.
Would love Alwyn Jnr to be similar for us.
