No, it wasn't. My surgeon is actually the surgeon who is on call for GWS and does all their players feet. Swan's was mild, mine was far worse and pickets was in between the two.

Edit: Sorry, can't say swans was mild, poor language choice, it was severe but not as severe as they can be
Does he do collingwoods and gws surgeries?

Past players that did this injury have said that it's one of the worst injuries to recover from due to the impact of landing on the foot. He might require further surgery to remove the pins. He might require orthotics for the remainder of his career like Richardson in 2000. Even Mitch Clark had this injury at Melbourne.

I read an article about Richo in 2000 that said he suffered from hamstring injuries after due to affecting him landing on his foot and thus had to alter his running gait to suit avoiding the ball of his foot.

I know this is worst case scenario but does he have the mental aptitude to get over such a terrible injury. After all the conversations on here we all know he's not that tough upstairs as it is.

I'd love to be wrong but don't like our chance. It's a very cheap risk though if it all goes through for 13.
But seriously - how many cheap risk injuries do we need? Daisy, Jaksch, Sumner, Marchbank whoever else I've forgotten.. and now add Pickett!
It's like 'welcome to the Carlton Rehab Club'. Would be nice to go after someone quality with a clean bill of health...

Good thing is though he will only be out 1-2 weeks......

Yeah, someone like Zach Tuohy...
Oh... bugger. :straining:

It is a weird announcement - anyway I look at it tbh. I Gree with you Harks - this is part of a done deal announcement - but I ask myself - why Pickett announced today...and are there any others? Who is orchestrating the show - anyone?
He announced today to soften the blow i would think?

I can help here this is the sort of thing I treat regularly at work.

The lisfranc joint is actually a series of smaller joints that effectively create one large joint across the middle of the foot. It's essentially like the keystone in anarchway. Most commonly I see this injury it after a car accident.

There is a huge scope of severity for this injury and associated recovery anything from 6weeks to 18 months is possible. It's likely he'll need orthotics permanently(this is fairly inconsequential) he may need more surgery if the foot is still displaying instability during movement. This is obviously more of an issue.

The good thing is our medicos will be assessing the injury 6+ months after the facts. A well trained specialist should be able to ascertain fairly easily and accurately his long term prognosis and also his more immediate need for subsequent treatment. Hope that helps

Personally if he doesn't tack to much into the cost of the deal is be all for it

I love you.

I think all the cynicism is drowning out the positives. This is a wonderful pickup for our club. A very recent top 5 talent who's fast, skilful and a match winner.

Get excited. SOS is getting some seriously Elite youngsters all in the same age bracket. This is how premierships are won.

In an ideal world he can do what Sumner did this year.

Come in as a player who honestly didn't know what was going to be able to achieve at all and caught up tremendpusly and should have a bigger inpact next year.

Pickett hopefully can be a repeat of that.

Pickett wouldn't have nominated the club out of nowhere - no doubt we've been in communication with him and his management for a while.

Not for a second do I believe we'd court him if we didn't think we could get him back to full fitness.

Exactly.
We're not a charity case - our medico's would have done everything they can to test that foot of his out.

Excellent post.

I am excited about some speed and talent joining us.

It was extremely severe with multiple broken bones as well as the lisfranc injury, also ankle damage. Much more severe than Pickett's.

My guess 5 and 24 for Marchbank, Stewart, Pickett and 15
Yes, and a future second rounder adds Corr and Kennedy. Which we could get for 2E.

Pick 8 for Gibbs and change, e.g. Dre, Graham and Lyon.

8 and 15 a couple of really good young mids. Two third rounders on project players. Upgrade Byrne with a late one.

I hope SOS is reading this. He can go to the pub, I have it sorted.

So what you are saying is Picketts is worse than swans career ending one?
Now I am worried..

Not sure who orchestrated this announcement, or felt the need for Pickett to 'nominate' formally via the media at all, but it smacks of amateur hour PR damage control after the Gibbs and Tuohy moves were communicated earlier in the day.

I know it's increasingly becoming just the way it is, but it doesn't sit well these players with zero footballing runs on the board going public like this - just get the trade done, talk about how pleased you are then; I'm not sure this reflects well on any party involved, really.

Pickett himself is high risk, potentially high reward - will reserve judgement, but I'm not sure this is a recruiting gamble we had to take at this stage. The low cost of entry perhaps offsets that.

You're potentially absolutely right I've treated patients before who we were happy to just get walking painlessly again.

I've also seen small single metatarsal dislocations resolve with out surgery in a month or so. Will come down to the severity and how many associated injured structures there as well. I don't remember the specifics of swans but I think there were some additional complications.

The club will make their assessments and you'll know what they think by the strength of their offer. Very similar to jom, in this scenario the cost of packaging him in is quite low and we are in a position to give him to time to recover. Wouldn't be the end of the world if he didn't see action in 2017
Provided of course the long term prognosis is reasonable
Pickett had his Lisfranc injury fixed by surgery last april, mechanism was a team mate landing on his foot from a mark at the Neafl.as you said we dont have his medical charts and current info on his mobility..he will just be limping around on it at this stage and a limited preseason possibly would be out of the question.unfortunately ligaments take longer than bone to repair and strengthen,Sumner was up and about on his reduced navicular in six months.Pickett would be a very attractive ,powerful option for us down the track, and he has also selected us as his club of preference which indicates we are in the best position.I would imagine there may be a risk involved with his return to playing football and would imagine we may thus get him for not much cost at all in a package.....he was about to debut for the giants at time of injury,so we patch him up and make him a blue instead.
