Absolutely no doubt about that.. look at what they gave up just to get the pick they used on Rozee..

And the lad looks like he’s flatlined.. his delivery kicks into his forward line are laughable.. barely ever finds and hits a target.

And he’s a gutless squib at the contest.

Then there was their laughable attempt at getting a good deal for Ladhams.. deludedly believed he was worth a first rounder.. and got put in their place by sydney in the end..

then what they had to do just to move up two draft spots last year.. to get Sinn.. who probably wouldve been there at their original pick anyway..

And they over pay sputs like motflop and trade in missing pieces like Orazio who barely even make it off the injury list..

not a single argument against the strategy itself though. Their implemation has been questionable at times, but nobody is arguing they always get it right.

This is it, and exactly why people suggesting we have more capital need to have a rethink.

Particularly if Amon compensation turns out to be decent, Port aren't afraid to push out players to get what they want.

Geordiades is also looking to WA, Port will definitely have capital to get JHF
No ones paying Amon more than $750k a year so they aint getting a first round compo pick for him.

Georgliades aint worth a first.. cant even get a game with them at the moment!..

If North let JHF walk this year they will only deal with a club that has, at a minimum, a top 5 draft pick.. if they cant get a massive deal at the trade table… then they may as well just hang onto him for the second year of his contract.

you'd be surprised about how many posts you have that totally blow aoart what you're currently professing. In fact there's another where you propose trading out best 22 players just to get Rozee. And I only looked at a handful of your posts with "Rozee" searched. It's just Port hatred, nothing more.

I can't help thinking that JHF next move is of extraordinary consequence for so many people.
Just imagine if he recommitted to North. It's literally a life buoy to the struggling club. Thousands of supporters affected and the club can use the extension as a foundation for future talent attraction and retention.

If he wants to leave, it's life threatening to the club...in my opinion.

It's actually a very difficult position for a teenager to be in. He might want out, but if it leaves a disastrous effect behind. Nobody would want to be "that person".

We are suggesting that this is North's Dangerfield moment which is somewhat right. It's actually closer to their Chris Grant moment. The future of our club wasn't threatened by Danger leaving. Their club looks desperately precarious.... just like the Doggies did back in the day.

This dilemma makes for great BF banter, but this trade matters more than most.
**** North. The clowns were offered 5 kitchen sinks so he didn't have to go there in the first place. He should be thinking the same and get the hell out. Plenty of Vic lads have done it.

North really screwed up in regards to Jason Horne-Francis. The sheer arrogance around that club to not even speak to him until very late was a monumental red flag and JHF could do nothing. Its like they just went in blind thinking the best player in the draft was going to solve all their problems. Its almost as if they didn't want to know who he was in case they realised the truth that he didn't want to be there. For a club that is about to go through another 5 years of pain as Zieball, Cunnington, Goldstein, Walker, Hall, Greenwood all move on, not to mention a few players want out, they really should have been stocking up on draft picks.

North Melbourne, if they traded for the Crows godfather offer in 2021 were likely to have Rachele, The number 1 and pick 4/5 (from the Crows) in 2022 and in 2023 probably the number 1 pick again and another top 10 pick from the Crows. Thats 5 top 10 picks to have really built a talented team, instead they lazied their way through a dumb list management strategy that only indicates blindness and arrogance and instead, this draft they are stuck with just the one pick. They also would have got the jump on the Crows in the rebuild stakes.

North really missed an opportunity and it is costing them and they are likely to lose JHF for a lot less now. Honestly, at this point, it wouldn't surprise me if he walks and sits out his contract.

Exactly, we can argue the merit of the strategy, whether they buy the right 'piece' or sell the right player, but it's unarguable that they don't sit on their hands if they see opportunity. They don't die wondering whereas we don't even wonder in the first place.
So much this
We are extremely conservative

Port will trade Georgiades to a WA club for capital.

Port won't have the ammo this year for a trade. Georgiadis isn't worth the number 1 pick from West Coast and if Port are dropping him, it only lowers his value to a couple of second rounders or a single first round selection somewhere in the high teens. Port will be able to make a huge play for him next year but that will be laughably bad list management for them. For a squad that has holes all over this list now and needs a rebuild, it would be hilarious if they trade Georgiadis and give two first rounders to North for him.

Been thinking about JHF a bit.

Whilst he's obviously a great talent, and the style of player we could certainly do with, Im worried we'd be selling the farm for him.

Can we really afford to part with two or three top end picks for the sake of one player? We still have too many gaps in our list to part with that sort of currency for just one player.

- we must invest midfield time in our 20-22 year old mids - Berry, Hately, Harry

- Rachelle could still develop his engine and become an elite mid who hits the scoreboard.

- Soligo looks tough as nails, is quick and can also use the ball reasonably well. I'm hopeful he can become a full time mid.

- Pedlar is potentially an elite user who we still need to invest time in.

- Gollant may be out the door at seasons end, Fog is a 2nd/3rd string forward at best, and Thilthorpe may not even be a perm forward for us.

I think we need to tank from here and ensure we can recruit Tom Scully in the draft.

Tell me which big deal trades have worked out for the club receiving the gun..

Last I checked, the following teams didn't win a flag off the back of their big deals. Sure the Dogs got a good GF out of Boyd, but he didn't exactly help get them there, and he certainly didn't do much after. They got lucky with him on GF day.

Geelong paying 9, 28 and Gore for Dangerfield.

Bris paying 5, 25 and Crisp for Beames

Dogs paying Griffen and 6 for Boyd

Carl paying 3, 20 and Kennedy for Judd

Haw paying 15, 35 and Burton for Wingard

Ess paying 9 and 14 for Shiel and 42

Freo paying 6 and 23 for Hogan

WCE paying a shitload of picks for T.Kelly

Not many clear winners in there for the team receiving the gun, when you consider they've sacrificed some of their future.

I'd rather invest in the draft and youth for a couple more years, then top up via Free Agency / Trade in a couple of years once we know where we are at.

Imagine if we'd spent two first rounders to get Luko back a couple of years ago.

We would probably have no Rachele or Thilthorpe.

You only had to hear an interview with him to know he’s homesick.
Homesickness is but one element of a players decision .....all 18 YO's get homesick year 1 .....most overcome it quickly

JHF is not the homesick type .....it'll rank 3rd on his priorities behind 1) successful / potential successful club 2) $$$$

Yeah, it's an interesting debate. The difference here, though, is that he's right at the beginning of his career and already proving to be a gun in the making. A generational talent.

For mine, we pay the price and get him to our club.

Sure sounded like he missed mummas cooking.
Does JHF look like a mumma's boy ? .....the guy is very tough mentally .....a bit like Nathan Buckley, has too higha expectations on others

The kid purposefully changed his name before the draft to make sure his step fathers name was part of his AFL journey. He's all about family, mate.

Honouring his father, yep .....doesn't equate to homesickness though, which IMO is the biggest crotch used in the AFL

Agreed !!

I hate homesickness as an excuse. Its the only professional sport in the world where homesickness is used. Especially when some players desperate for an AFL contract play in multiple state leagues all over Australia desperate to impress. Player movement is way to easy.

I don't think k homesickness is the right word, in this instance. Jason Knows he's a top tier player and that gives him some leverage when it comes to where he plays football. Given that situation, he'd rather be in his home state around his family and mates.

OR ....is he the type, as many Sth Australian players have demonstrated over the years .....he prefers the regular big VIC crowds and footy mecca, that is VIC

This means, I have to back track on my SYD suggestion .....IMO he doesn't seek the anonymity of QLD or NSW

Agree.

The only players I wouldn't trade for him are Dawson, and at a pinch Rachele.

I'd have a long hard think about Thilthorpe but in the end probably do it.

JHF will be a generational player. And he's 19.

Interesting the fact that it unravelled so quickly reflects poorly on him too. My gut is he will do everything he can to get to port . Whilst we should absolutely try to get him we utterly mismanaged the draft . Hate to say it but if port had the same trade currency that we had they would have done whatever it takes. We are soft
Which part of the draft did we mismanage?

You don't like the Rachelle pick, Soligo or Taylor no good?
