Traded Jason Horne-Francis [to Port Adelaide in multi-club trade]

Are GWS looking to use picks 3, 12, 15, 18 and 19 purely for the draft? Or do they want to get some players in via trade?

Maybe we could upgrade pick 33 or 43 for one those later picks and offer up Byrne-Jones or Bonner?

We genuinely need to trade away a player for 2nd round. Can't see it happening another way.

Hayes, Drew, Bonner, DBJ, Farrell. DBJ with most value in that lot perhaps as an All-Australian and club BnF although he was off it best this year. I know he just resigned but yeah either him or Drew

In all seriousness North have actually done fine out of this deal. So have West Coast. GWS showed up, bent over and handed over the lube to make it work for everyone else, and I salute them for it.
Yeah I think north have done well. What more can you hope for to get for a player that wants out than a similar pick + a future 1st on top. That’s a good deal.

Also west coast, despite people knocking them to get out of pick 2 and the private school vic boys and into hewett territory , whose not far behind, if at all those vic boys plus get another pick. That’s good for them.

Ports given up a lot, but the fact we get future 2nds and 3rds back helps a lot,

In the end rozee butters jhf Bergman sinn to look forward too in our midfield.

I really rate that group of players as a future midfield. High end young talent there.

Seems pretty fair..........

Butters, pick 8 and a future 1st. Maybe chuck in a second rounder as a sweetner for the Roos.

Good luck convincing any Port player to move to North at the moment. The place has a real Fitzroy in disguise vibe. If one unfortunate sod does agree to head east he will no doubt be set for life as bags of gold will be thrown his way.

This is the problem with Norths trade request. Most likely will just be x2 first rounders with pick swaps

On the flip side, Jason gets to join the most overrated list in the AFL, a career bouncing around the 8th spot awaits.

Feel confident in saying this eventual deal will not just be picks.

Port will be sending a quality player in the 20-23 year old age range back in return.

This one certainly has the feeling of a trade that just won't get done. North, rightly, won't accept pick 8 and a future first. Port, rightly, won't include a Butters/Duursma/Georgiades/Bergman type.

Expect to be back here in 12 months.

I think it’s too toxic for North not to do it.

I wonder what happened to "no dickhead" policy at football clubs? Jason the real Horney Franco and Willie "Pass Me the Billy" Rioli, the man who pees Lemon & Lime Gatorade Sports Drinks, in one single solitary trade period.

I know Kenny Hinkley is coaching for his career this year but this reeks of desperation to me.

I’d say Bergman is the only one who’d be gettable

We'll see.

NMFC had earmarked a pretty big bucket of salary cap for JHF in the future, so we'll have a very nice salary available to entice someone across if they buy-in to the Shinboner spirit.

Zak Butters went to school a 5 minute drive away from Arden St and still has friends and family in the area.
Josh Sinn is also a Melbourne boy and spends his offseasons back in Victoria with his mates.
Xavier Duursma is from country VIC and, having signed an extension in 2021, is underpaid considering what he's worth.
Etc etc

I'm not saying North will definitely get one of those guys. I'm just saying it's not a dramatically hard-sell to make to one of the Port young guns to come home, earn a bucket of money, and be closer to friends/family.

Port has no right to 'send' anybody.

Who would agree to go to North in their current and probable future state? It would need to be rivers of gold to suffer that fate.

Some poor 18yo is sitting there right now hoping they are not the first name called after Ashcroft!

12 months time they will only get 1 first rounder, keeping him just to be stubborn will hurt north

Selling him for unders hurts the entire league and erodes the faith and value of the draft.

No one across the AFL wants North to get less than top dollar here, for selfish reasons for their own future.

In this scenario, North miss out on a top 10 draft pick. If that is what they want to do, that is their choice.

Pretty sure the AFL want to see a strong north. Throwing away x2 first rounders and a second just to be stubborn is just insane. Will ruin your club, coz next year we get him a hell of lot cheaper

If we finish bottom 4 next year north will look so dumb

Butters again…

Look, if you can convince butters to come (highly unlikely) with some ludicrous contract offer, it would be closer to a straight swap rather than including 2 firsts.

Next year there's no guarantee you get him. You need to understand how much can change within 12 months.

Maybe all of a sudden the Crows want to make JHF the highest paid player in SA football, next year. And they'll have the trade capital to do it better than Port.

Maybe JHF's step-father and his mum have a huge relationship breakdown and he no longer wants to go to SA, and decides his future is now in Perth for some weird reason.

Acting with certainty that JHF is gettable next season as a RFA would be foolish. Look at Papley/Sydney. Things change.

Have I missed something here? I thought club's could not trade draftees in their rookie contracts (ie in their first two seasons).

Is the AFL just gonna look the other way because it is the player driving the move? Sets a very dangerous precedent, players already have way too much power in trade negotiations, club's need the ability to trade contracted players wherever is best for the club (ie without needing the players consent).

Tom Boyd (also pick 1) moved back in 2015 after 1 yr at GWS

Really?
Their brand new shiny CLARKO coach was just about to be hit with a massive racism scandal and the AFL knew it, yet they still only offered breadcrumbs for priority pick assistance.

AFL hate North.

Duursma and Sinn would remove next years first
