Jesse Hogan officially a Demon

Don't mean to be a downer, but I was a little concerned about some his marks in the highlight reels. There wasn't a great deal of one grab marks. Admittedly some good grabs in there, but I want to see clean strong 1 grab marks

Has a lot of growing to do still. Plenty of time to refine skills, especially considering he has a full year of training before he can even start playing.

Only highlights from one game mate - not one of his best games either.

Well, there were two marks taken from another game but both were clean.

This is, in my opinion, his best trait and arguably why people compare him to Brown. He has the mass, speed and height to play this role extremely effectively. I do like Barry, don't know much about him, not sure where he's rated but he seems like he has the gut-running, pace and body-size we need in the midfield.

I'd have been happy taking him at 29 or 31 for us. Watched him at Champs and he was very good. Not quite the same level but similar style to Stephen Hill. Won't get a heap but he'll cut teams up. Good get IMO.

I'd be more than happy for Hogan to turn into the 1994 version of David Schwarz and stay that way for 10 years.

The 17 year-old Western Australian, who has been likened to Jonathan Brown and Matthew Pavlich as a player, said he now couldn’t wait to cross the Nullarbor Plain and start his new life in Melbourne.

“I’m very excited about the whole situation, and I’m looking forward to moving to the heart of footy,” he said.

“I won’t be able to play [in the AFL next year], but I’ll be a year ahead of the rest of the kids.

“I’ll have a year of knowledge and be able to train against bigger bodies, so it’s an amazing opportunity.”

Love the enthusiasm about getting to go into the VFL for a year, I think Neeld's a big fan of getting kids in the VFL to speed up their development, with Viney doing the same. I guess with most first year players they tend to play in the seconds to develop anyway.

Seemed to be rated a third or fourth round pick until the draft combine - but after testing extremely well, may have elevated his status into the late second round level.

Certainly the type we could use anyway - pacey outside ball carrier who can run both ways.

As a key forward, confidence is key. If he lacked it, or even if he were "humble", I would be seriously worried.

The speed is the real feature of his game and both ways it can be a real feature whether it be with his chasing or offensive running when he can get into space.

Good point. Everyone pipe down. If something doesn't pan out once nothing else ever will, even if it's totally different.

We realised what happens when you spend a number one pick on an athletic stick figure of a school boy key forward in the making.

Naturally we were excited about Watts...but Hogan's a brute.

He was 20 kilos lighter at the same age, for starters.

You'd hope the club would have sussed that out in interviews with him. By nominating for the mini draft he sort of flagged that he was happy to move from home anyway i suppose. Anyone know what team he supports?

This really is great. We essentially get pick 2 (or close to it) in the 2013 draft, with a year of AFL-class development, regardless of where we finish next year.

Do you think that downgrading pick 13 to 20 was done with a Dawes trade in mind? 13 is too high but 20 is about right.

Yeah I think we could be well served by some arrogance/confidence (it's a fine line between the two). Could help change the culture a little bit. A bunch of players who feel they should be winning flags instead of just making up the numbers. Viney and Hogan could cover the quota of half the list.
