Traded Jesse Hogan [traded with #65 to Fremantle for #6 and #23]

What are Fremantle thinking? Could have waited to see what happens with Neale before publicly ruling out Hogan.

A smart team would have done this but Freo want to screw the Lions over but cant do that until they have already offered magic beans to Melbourne.

Peter Bell has let the new position get to his head.

Legit the best offer we could have made in our current situation - for all we know freo might hold Neale to his contract and we aren’t able to trade our future 1st. & I doubt adding pick 23 would have made a difference

Karl "West Coast Eagles" Langdon tweeted that the Hogan deal was dangerous for Freo and he hoped they'd learnt from previous errors in taking players with "issues"

Wonder what it was that he meant.

We shall see. I wanted Hogan as much as anyone, but I also don’t wanna sell the Farm. You’re reacting strongly when you don’t know the full details, we shall see what happens after Neale goes.

Given Hogan hasn’t publically said he wants out, I’ll back the club.
He’s happy to stay if he needs

Whats the "farm"?

We want pick 5 and another first rounder. hardly overs, let alone the farm.....

Doubt the foot is a big issue. They caught it early, he's already walking and will be back running soon. Half the league has had stress injuries at some stage of their career.

Melbourne are willing to trade him because Weideman is or will be ready and May is available. The forward line can function without him, the backline can get a huge upgrade.

Freo don't want to give more than they have to because they know Melbourne are keen to move him. As good as Hogan already is (31 goals, 8 marks a game in his first 11 this year) and as good as he could still be (70 goals if he's the focal point) he's not the kind of transcendent superstar that you don't trade.

I wouldn’t have though Freo’s “due diligence” comment was that difficult to work out.

It either means he’s a nutcase who’ll damage the club (he’s not), or his body is a problem.

And he has a dreaded foot injury.

The article from a few days ago even makes clear what the due diligence involves:

We have no need for Jesse Hogan, nor do we want him.

He doesn't want to play for us, either.
He's a gun and they don't come you very often. You grab them when you can and i think the Eagles should at least try. Even if that means trading an established player + a pick if thats what it takes. Am concerned about his foot though.

Sorry I just buy this whole "must be more to it", they get him over to tour facilities, put him through a medical and then offered a ridiculous low bid for pick 11 and a 2nd round next year ... why bloody offer that at all if he has so called "failed" a medical. I dont buy it, Freo have just wasted everyone's time IMO key power forwards just dont fall into your lap.

Freo are clearly annoyed and want maximum for Neale and give nothing for Hogan. Living in fantasy land down at Freo

Occam's razor suggests that it's what Freo reckon they learnt from meeting with Hogan, Melbourne and doing the medical that led to firstly, the low offer, and then deciding to halt negotiations all together.

Freo are going to get dumped on for this if this is the end of the story, hard and repeatedly, and that's fine but they're free to try trade in who they think is a best fit for them. This is proffessional sport not picking friends in a school yard.

Will wait and see but there is going to be a truck load of assumptions, on all sides, finishing this thread off from people that are getting their facts from the AFL media and internet forums.

This was my first thought.

Considering your above average BF pundit knows that Jesse is worth more than 11 + 2nd (ignoring injuries + off field if any) this is either ballsy ass posturing or the club has legitimate concerns over his short and/or long term future. Either is fine with me. It is risky as but I like it.

Melbourne have what they wanted ...they get to keep Hogan.

Now with all that clear air they just need to swing McDonald back or work 36, 46 & 54 & player into May.

You mean the 6 that was traded?

For 3 smaller farms.

If his foot injury was such a problem, Fremantle wouldn't even be offering pick 11, or a very expensive contract. Even Jack Trengove who was hit hard by a navicular fracture, managed to return and play more or less the same level of football he was playing pre-injury.

Freo just dicked around, Dodoro-style, and desperately want to keep the pick 5 they're getting from us. They are going to regret it.

Barrett now reporting Melbourne never asked for two first rounders, and were happy with 5 and 23. What an embarrassment for Fremantle.
