JJ is almost the most frustrating key forwards we've ever had. His first instinct is to run back towards the goal, he chases for three steps then gives up unless there is a goal on offer. He's got his money and now is resting on the fact he has 4 years left to give half efforts.
He's frustrating because he has shown glimpses that he could be one of the best forwards in the comp, but just can't be arrrsed.

One of his first instincts is to go one handed/arm.

JJ is never going to be the player many on here think we can turn him into. He will always hesitate to put his body line. He will always have zero defensive pressure and he will always go missing when the pressure goes up and he is denied space (i.e. grand finals).
I tend to agree but I'm not hanging him on this season alone

We could bring in our super-sub to replace him. Unfortunately he has awareness so I guess we have to stick with JJ.

JJ plays well when we have quicker ball movements. It flows on from his natural style of play.
He's our most consistent forward this year, fact or opinion?
It is a fact but all of our other forwards have had their seasons massively impacted by injuries whereas Jenkins has played every game.

However I think he’s had a good year considering how our midfield has struggled through the year.

Jenkins has also played through injury most of the year.

He has also made more of an effort lately to take contested marks. And sometimes manages to do just that

When I started this thread I was frustrated by his contribution and wondered if it was time to try someone else. Now I see him playing a very solid forward role for us

The key for him is the same as it is for a few of our players eg Atkins - will he put in extra effort when the pressure’s on and he can’t just play his natural game

Consistent in the sense he’s scored coaches votes in only 1 game, round 2 against Richmond

He’s consistently out of the votes.
I think you're looking too much into coach's votes, and forget the key stats for a forward - number of goals!
JJ has been quiet in recent months, but that's mainly because our mids have been down in their input and the forward entries have been scattered and no real rhythm. Looking forward to see him play now we're slowly getting our top players back and running.

1. I should prefer your opinion over the coaches?

2. That you think that goals are the key stat for a forward says it all.

He’s been quiet in recent MONTHS(!!!!)?

I thought you said he’s been our best and most consistent forward?

Seems like you can add yourself to the very long list of people who don’t listen to you :)

A midnight debate with Sanders..
So you're saying we should demote JJ back to the SANFL because the coaches aren't giving him kudos points?
Any fan can pick any player's weaknesses or some stats which make a player seem non-worthy, but it's the overall relative contribution to the team that matters the most. Are you implying that there has been a forward that has contributed more than JJ this year, if I shouldn't be focusing on "goals kicked"?

Lol. You confuse exposition with debate :)

Making shit up like this is why you’re not taken seriously by anybody. Well other than by your alias accounts of course :p

And we should prefer your inexpert splattering to the coaches?

Who better to judge overall contribution than the coaches?

IF? lol

Well his scoring output is down on previous years (unsurprisingly) but his intent and aggression to the ball/contest is better then previous seasons IMO. So his season has been hard to judge for me.

In terms of consistent forwards, well thats a bit of a give-in considering the injury curse we've suffered! Pretty much Steven Bradbury'd that so far!

Much like Atkins, as long as JJ makes the most out of a couple of moments that he'll get, then that's a pass mark. Neither will be conistent when the heat is on, but really neither are expected to be super consistent there.

They have been massively overrated if they are as consistency for a key forward/outside midfielder in a high pressure game is the realm of the very good/elite.

Jenkins best games this year have come when the heat is on. Makes a nice change actually

Easy to forget how old he is because of the late start.

The Berg is his heir apparent and should push through as a more naturally talented replacement by 2020.

He's had some nice games and Francou has definitely got him playing like a more orthodox forward.

Done well considering the circumstances we've been in and how ill suited he can be to being a key forward at times.

As I mentioned in the GBU thread, he hasn't had his standout games hes had in previous years, but Francou has turned him into a more reliable guy who teams have to concern themselves with
