(BTW Its none of anyones business but I'm vaccinated and have never taken Ivermectin for anything. You can get it round here in tick treatments for cattle.)

The weight of evidence shows that it does not reduce Covid symptoms, hospitalisations or death. Nor does it reduce your chances of developing Covid-19.

It does nothing.

If, one day, they find an obscure Covid symptom that it helps with then all good. But the evidence shows that there is no benefit, and as a prophylactic it strips out your innards for no gain.

If you're in ICU, the medical peeps are trying to get everything under control. If you throw Ivermectin in on top of everything you're just complicating treatment for no gain.

I agree with the bolded bit.

There is some evidence that it has a prophylactic effect if taken before infection from studies in non English speaking countries that have hundreds of thousands of participants and large control groups. Dunno how flawed they are and ... honestly I haven't even cared about this for ages. I've had covid and i was vaccinated before that so i don't really care any more. Its incredibly unlikely that I'll ever have a problem with it.

But those studies exist, there are plenty from S America - some show an effect some show none. There are also studies that show no prophylactic effect. Honestly its all just noise now.

But its not just "horse dewormer" - lol that bit of misinfo certainly went viral. Its on the WHO list of essential medicines for humans, and gets prescribed for ... among other things - crabs. It is an essential medicine for treating internal parasites in humans. Its actually human de-wormer. Altho there are now people who don't believe that because of all the bullshit that we've seen and heard in the last 2 and a half years.

The horse de-wormer story seems like it was bullshit yeah?

But Ivermectin is actually human de wormer and a very important one at that, vital for the treatment of serious diseases including river blindness caused by a specific infection from a parasitic worm. Its basically edible fly spray.

On ivermectin and covid. My understanding is one of the things Ivermectin inhibits is a particular enzyme the virus needs for replication. However the biochemistry to check that is beyond me right now. I could figure it out but the time it would take isn't worth it tho. This is an intracellular process too (until the virus form agglomerations or whatever they are, then it becomes more open to the rest of the body, not sealed in a cell,) so how the ivermectin gets where its needed may be problematic. That would make sense tho cos it seems to need high doses, possibly unsafe ones.

In the original projections about its use, from Australian researchers, it was part of a treatment regime involving multiple drugs, all probably doing different things to interfere in different ways with the virus' ability to replicate. It wasn't presented as a single curative.

None of any of that nuance was present anywhere in any public discussion about covid and ivermectin. From any "side" in the debate shitfight.

I would say the media responsible for the horse dewormer meme have a greater responsibility to be truthful and accurate than Rogan and fail in that responsibility significantly more frequently.

On a slightly related note ... have you ever seen that Bill Hicks skit about people taking acid and trying to fly?

The point is that the MSM accused Joe Rogan of taking horse dewormer when he didn’t. Joe didn’t encourage people to take horse medicine, he was just falsely accused of doing it.

He did not take horse medicine. He took human medicine for a bullsh*t reason, but it was not horse dewormer.

If I take penicillin for a headache, I’m a stupid dumb idiot for doing it, but it doesn’t mean I took dog medicine because we also give that ingredient to dogs.

Come on man… First you say you’re cool with the linguistic trickery because the drug does nothing to treat covid, now he literally took horse medicine because it’s what you heard and he hasn’t done an humans-only-ivermectin unboxing video where he takes the tablet while holding up a copy of today’s newspaper. There’s no evidence that he DID take horse medicine.

I don’t doubt that many hillbilly qanon idiots did so, maybe with some indirect influence from Rogan himself. But he just… did not take horse medicine. You just like saying it because you don’t like him and it makes him seem more ridiculous.
